I was at a Bank yesterday (In Canada) and actually saw somebody about to deposit a thousand dollar bill (she was in the line in front of me holding one). Been a long long time since I have seen one of those😲

In Canada the one thousand dollar bill went out of circulation on January 1st, 2000, but they still are legal tender. Also kind of a crazy stat, I did a bit of research and it turns out there are 391 million worth of $1,000 bills still in circulation (as of January 3rd 2023), that number is much higher then I thought it would be.

As for USA.....

I could not find when the 1000 dollar bill went out of circulation, but I did see that as of January 20th, 2023 there were still 165,372 $1000 bills still in circulation. Still a fair number of those bills floating around.

When is the last time a Madjackers saw a 1000 dollar bill? Anybody still have one?

The last time I saw a USA 1000 dollar bill was at the Harveys Lake Tahoe Hotel & Casino back in 1999. Some dude at the baccarat table took out 5 of em and threw em out on the table.

Found this on the Federal Reserve Website:

"The United States government ceased printing $1000 bills in 1945"

Wow! Stopped printing them in 1945, but as of January 20th, 2023 there were still 165,372 $1000 bills still in circulation, damn 😲 😲

My now-wife was working as a bank teller in her early 20s (~1999). Someone did exactly what you saw Kick and deposited it at the bank at her station. Her manager told her that she could "buy it out" if she could come up with $1000 cash before closing. So she called her parents and they dug out money they had wrapped in foil in the freezer and bought the bill. I remember driving her around to various coin/currency collector shops to get quotes on it. I think she ended up getting $1900 for it.

So I've held one in my hand and will always remember that Grover Cleveland is on it but it's been ~24 years and I don't expect to ever see or handle one again!

paper money is going away. I predict 5 years from now it will not be around.

I have never seen a 1,000 bill in person.

Two fifths didn't use it 2022 and making the case for not using it is fine. Saying it's going to be gone in 5 years is asinine.
