about 20 minutes before this game, i was going to attempt some quick handicapping, when an old friend called who i hadn't talked to in almost a year. nearly 90 minutes later... well, i missed out on the detroit bowl, or whatever it's called now.

i placed a live bet on the under two plays before the Toledo TD. couple minutes later, i was thinking about playing Toledo live, when the game dropped off the board. oh, Toledo just got a TAINT. as usual, i was too early on the under and too late on Toledo.

*sees the remaining two games on the schedule*... ugh.

Rate Bowl

i know why they are now the "Rate Bowl", but... seriously? is this the worst bowl name ever? i mean, that would be fitting for these teams. ok, i'm not going to spend much time on this trash. a few notes....

both teams will be without their top RB. giddens (6.6 yds/carry) is certainly a loss for K St. his backup, Edwards, showed some ability early in the season, but didn't do much the last half of the year. overall he averaged 6.3/carry. missing Monangai is big for RU. i only saw one game this year, but he's a beast. Raymond, his backup, only averaged 4.2 per carry, but did have 71 yards and 2 TD on 9 carries in the season finale against michigan st.

neither qb is all that great. johnson is also a threat with his legs.

RU has won 10 straight non-conference games and 14 of their last 15.

Rutgers (ML) 1 to win 2.1
Over (52) 4X. Trusting my gut on this one, because I don't know how either of these teams will score more than 17. But it feels like this total should be around 46.

68 Ventures Bowl

now we have a bowl game sponsored by... a series of children's books? maybe a hedge fund?

ok, the game we've all been waiting for. bowling green vs arkansas st! when the season started, we were all hoping for this matchup. even drooling over the possibility that it could happen. AND THE DAY IS FINALLY HERE!!!

the line opened around 7 and is up to 10. the total has been bet up a fg as well.

per actionnetwork.com, all BG starters are expected to play. Arkansas St will be missing starting DB Joyner who led the team in PDs with 7 (nobody else had more than 4).

it's raining this afternoon in Mobile but, as we all know, Hancock Whitney Stadium has a turf field. they are expecting wind gusts over 20 mph all game.

BG should be happy to be out of the midwest, after playing in the motor city bowl the last two years.

BG has some impressive losses in back-to-back games, by 7 at penn st & by 6 at texas a&m. which were, of course, followed by a home loss to old dominion.

Arkansas St is dead last in the country, giving up 5.9 yards/rush. and they are 120th, allowing 8.3 yards/pass att. no reason to think BG won't be able to score.

trying to figure out how to play this. i hate laying double digits, especially in a bowl game. and i like the under, in part because of the wind, but it's hard to imagine ark st getting many stops. i'm in the mood to get a little creative.

Under 53.5 2X
Ark St TT under (20.5) 2.4 to win 2
parlay BG (-2.5)/Under (56.5) 4 to win 4.8
parlay BG (-6.5)/Ark St TT under (23.5) 2.5 to win 2

Impressive effort from bowling green. Made a habit of betting against the MAC on bowls because the conference is soooo bad. I think Shenendahowa could stay within a few scores of any given MAC squad
