There will never be another bigger choke job in not only golf, but all of pro sports, nothing will ever beat this, the biggest choke in pro sports history bar none......

Mine is Doug Sanders missing a 2 footer for the WIN. I met him a few times at Colonial still wearing wild clothes. We have the same last name and as a Kid Golfer it was easy for me to like him.

Phil Mickelson(50/1) e.w. 145th Open Championship

- - In 2004 Mickelson repeatedly noted that Troon suited him best on the Open rota because all the way around you can strategically play to one side of virtually every hole and avoid the real problems which lie on the other side; utilizing his peerless short game when missing a green, and ready shotmaking when missing a fairway, he was indelibly engaged in the three-way battle that separated from the rest of the field. And the record shows what can happen now that Lefty gets to tune up for the Open on a links course instead of the bogs at Loch Lomond.

I waited 12 years to use that nugget of information in 2016 for a 50/1 wager on Phil for an amount substantially greater than I have ever made, before or since, on any other wager at odds of greater than 8/1. In the epic duel that ensued, Stenson and Mickelson finished 11 shots ahead of the rest of the field, although both players benefitted from being on the right side of the draw on Friday in a disparity of fairly historic proportions. Now, just this week I heard on a podcast that datagolf.com has Phil’s performance as the 4th best major performance of all-time since 1983, with an expected win percentage of 99.99% . . .Simply put, although my e.w. wager was nicely profitable, that's the story of my most disappointing (by a ginormous amount) wagering loss of all-time. Simply put, you can make a brilliant wager and still not win.

This year, the rough is up and thick, and I believe quite a few new tee boxes have been built which might change some of the dynamics, but I suspect there is still some truth in the gist of Phil’s observations from 2004.
