Update on the hurdles...they just ran qualifying....

Felicien ( :canada1 ) qualified 2nd in her heat, 0.01 behind 1st. Got off to a slow start (and complained afterwards of a very fast gun - a number of the other competitors also complained of this). By hurdle 6 or 7 she was clearly in the lead...then coasted knowing she had qualified.

American Gail Devers is OUT! Fell before reaching the first hurdle. She had a leg injury going into the race, and they were saying she really shouldn't have been out there. She was expected to be Felicien's main competition. So good news from a betting standpoint.

16 move on to the semi's, slated for tomorrow around 12:30pm EDT. Then the finals go Tuesday around 1:30pm EDT.

I stayed up until 2.30am to watch them run last night, and they didn't show the heats here!!

Did get a bit of a surprise when I looked at the betting this morning and Devers wasn't listed!!

Felicien into 1.40....Let's hope she can do the trick.
Already looks a good call, GM ;)

Women's hurdles semifinal heat #1, just run minutes ago...

Felicien wins in a time of 12.49 seconds, .04 ahead of 2nd place... .05 off her seasonal best... and 0.1 seconds off the world record. Much better start and overall form today than yesterday. The gun is still fast but the competitors are adapting to it.

Post-race interview she says she "definitely has a lot more" in the tank. She says she didn't really feel she was in a rhythm until hurdle #5. If that's true it sure wasn't noticeable to me. She was in the lead the whole way and looked just great today.

Looking good. Onward...big race is tomorrow!

(edit)

Joanna Hayes (USA) wins 2nd heat in 12.48. Second-best time in the world this year. A second Canadian, Angela Whyte, also eeks her way into the final 8, running a 12.69, her personal best. :canada1 Woohoo!

Usain Bolt @ 15.00

He's a 17 year old jamaican who has blown away every junior record going in the 200m

He's also run the quickest time of the year.

'On a chilly Easter Sunday afternoon Bolt smashed that jointly held record by .20 of a second, finishing in 19.93, which was also the fastest time in the world this year. The wind reading was 1.4 metres per second.' - IAAF

IMO the only three who can beat him are Crawford, Gatlin and Powell and they all have just 1 day to recover from the 100 final before the 200 heats.

He's run faster than Gatlin and Powell anyway this year (is Powell even running the 200??), so I reckon Betfair is still offering great value.

.....I got this from a UK based sports betting site that is run by a friend of mine....Hopefully someone here will know a bit more about his chances than I do.
But, no reason to doubt...he picked Gatlin for the 100m @ 20/1!....Everything I've seen suggests Bolt is a good chance to at least place. (I've taken it e/w...1/4 odds for top 3 finish.)

Thoughts anyone??

:(

Felicien crashes into the first hurdle, takes a big spill...and wipes out the woman in the lane next to her at the same time. They're actually debating re-running the race now for the sake of the Russian woman who was knocked out of the race through no fault of her own. Assuming they don't do that however...Hayes of the US is the winner...in an Olympic-record time of 12.37. That's INSANELY fast. If I'm not mistaken Felicien's personal best was 12.46? Hayes personal best going in was 12.48. And she shaves 0.12 off of it?? I wonder if that was a clean run?

So regardless...I don't think Perdita was going to put up that kind of a time anyways. I've never seen her do anything like this before.

Sorry guys.

No kidding. Picking winners in the Olympics is pretty damn hard. I don't know if it's people getting psyched out or what it is. But here in Canada it seems most of our medals are won by people nobody expects to win...and all our "sure things" flame out and get nothing. Maybe I should have taken that into account. Hmmm.

Funny thing, I posted the Women's Brail team wins in volleyball, I clicked on the Men's.

Needed this to help the the Pain of Lumpy's loss in a Playoff. Damn
