WINDERMERE, Fla. -- The Tavistock Cup went on Monday without Tiger Woods for the first time since the event's inaugural tournament in 2004. Yet the prevailing topic among the players at Isleworth Golf & Country Club -- aside from the 25 mph winds -- was the world's No. 1 player.

Photos: Day 1, Tavistock Cup
Coverage: Tiger's return
Woods, though, spent most of last week practicing and playing at Isleworth with John Cook and Arjun Atwal.

"He's hitting it longer than before," Atwal said. "But he feels he's not totally ready."

Asked how Woods will fare at the Masters, where he will make his return to golf early next month, Cook said, "From what I saw the last three days of ball-striking ... first.

"I don't see anybody hit the ball like he does. If he takes that game up there, that's vintage. I don't see anybody beating him."

The golf might be the easiest part for Woods, though. In his interview with ESPN -- he also conducted an interview with GOLF CHANNEL -- Woods admitted to being nervous about what kind of crowd reaction there will be when he comes back.

"There are going to be a lot of distractions," Henrik Stenson said. "But if anybody can handle it, he can."

For now, though, it's about taking one step at a time. As one caddie said, you can't change in 45 days. It takes time and this is just the beginning for Woods.

"He's made a mistake and he's come forward and really taken full responsibility," said O'Meara, who, at the request of Woods, will play practice rounds with the four-time Green Jacket winner during this year's Masters. "Anytime you do something wrong, you have to have accountability and he's got it."

O'Meara said he'd only seen bits and pieces of the Woods interviews, but he had been exchanging text messages with Woods and even held out hope that Woods would play in the Tavistock Cup.

"He said he wasn't ready," said O'Meara, who added that Woods didn't think it would be fair to the Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by MasterCard if he played at Isleworth and not Bay Hill.

O'Meara also said that while he'd been a big brother to Woods for 10 years on the PGA TOUR, he hadn't heard from him much the last three years.

The two former Isleworth neighbors haven't spoken in person or on the telephone since the Nov. 27 accident outside Woods' home, where security remained tight Monday. Late Monday, in fact, GOLF CHANNEL reported that Woods spent the day practicing up at Augusta National.

"Now that he has come clean and he is trying to get better, you have to respect that," O'Meara said. "You don't respect what happened, but we have to let the guy move forward."

Move forward is exactly what some players would like to do sooner than later.

"I'm bored of it quite frankly," Ian Poulter, a member of the Lake Nona team, said. "I'm tired of talking about it."

Two other players at nearby Bay Hill, meanwhile, shared similar sentiments. "I want all this to just get over with," added Steve Stricker.

On April 8, it will -- sort of. That's when the first round of the Masters begins.

Not worth it to me at all. You've got a 6.5, 5, 4.5 & 4-1. Best case you win the 6.5 and lose 3 units, but its such a small sample size that if he makes a couple birdies on one of the other holes you are going to lose 4 units. Plus you have to figure you are much more likely to win the lower of the three par 5's, so at best you are winning 2 units for risking 4 units while avoiding the other 14 holes. I wouldn't do it.

I feel like 13th is the easiest. That being said he could only get 2 chances to play these holes, but i doubt it.

Generally get 3 or 4 of these on masters--but limits make them yawners.

Since course was lengthened--

Was # 15 last year with 4-
08 was tie-- 13 & 15
07 was #13

as far as his lowest score coming on any hole but a par 5 is non issue--would be 1st time since he's been playing there-- I like agents chances of busting par there better than Tiger low hole not being par 5.

However one might throw out hole # 2 which he has only birdied once in each year--which brings me to another prop. :)

Dead heat is like 08 where his lowest score would have been tie. If you had 2 holes he tied with low at say both 4/1 you get get 2/1 on each hole instead--instead of 4/1 on one--you'd get same amount returned whether both won or only one but your loss on other holes would be less. I believe I'm correct on this.

Between Green Bay and Iowa City
2010 Masters:
Matt Kuchar(80/1) e.w.

"I told him, 'I promise you one thing: You'll never meet another person as tough as you.' He hasn't. And he won't." ~ Earl Woods

From the beginning, that quote or that perspective has been the only proper starting point for an assessment of the legendary achievements of golfer Eldrick Tiger Woods - past, present and future. Simply put, it references the foundation on which all the other pieces are constructed. ~ lostinamerica

Tiger Woods has never gone anywhere, and yet for the second year in a row he?s a serious contender for comeback player of the year

- - If Tiger Woods wins the 2010 Masters, the achievement will trump Joe DiMaggio's 56 game hitting streak, Ben Hogan's U.S. Open win at Merion in 1950, and Tiger's own signature performances in the 2000 U.S. Open and British Open, and 2008 U.S. Open . . . Tiger Woods will not win the Masters.

Matchups:

Els(+145) over Woods (Tournament)

i couldnt disagree with you more

trump dimaggio's hitting streak? how so?

the son of bitch owns this course, it's not like he's trying to come back from a serious physical injury. everyones saying he looks fine out there. all he's been doing is going to humping classes and hitting golf balls for the past few months. there's a reason he's freakin 4-1 to win the damn masters

no shit

the guy hasnt played golf for what, 6 months......ummmm........didnt he miss 8-9 months a year and a half ago with an ACTUAL PHYSICAL INJURY???

how was that return???

despite not winning a major, he was in contention for 3 of them, led the tour in wins + money and was the best golfer out there.........but this is supposed to be a challenging comeback???

if he wins, he wins......but to rank it up there with amazing comebacks, and/or to compare it to other legenday sports accomplishments is absurd.

Your kidding right? Do you realize the attention and pressure on him? Theres a huge difference between hitting balls and playing his home course (albeit its a tough one), then being there in contention and playing when it matters. Theres a reason so many players played Houston the week before.
