http://www.philly.com/philly/sports..._fulfills_dream_for_Vai_Sikahema__father.html

nice article....

i also pulled this up off another forum..."Sikahema also was a professional boxer in Tonga before his college football days and had an impressive win ratio. He also made the Olympics for Tonga."....

(i think he meant amateur)

granted, quite a size differential...but,i`ll take having a legit boxing background over canseco`s tae kwon do and kung fu experience in a boxing match.......

particularly at +180...

for shits and giggles...

I think there is great value in this actually. I bought Vai at +160 (got in too late for the +180). He lives in the boxing Mecca of Philly and has been training for 1.5 years. He fought a radio DJ recently for charity and showcased his skills. The guy was seriously overmatched so Vai slipped alot of shots and countered him silly. The dude has ****ing skills. He's been sparring legit boxers of Canseco's size for the past few months to prepare. He's serious.\ about this and he's donating his charity purse to a fallen police officer.

Now, I have idolized Canseco since I was a kid but Kung Fu, Muay Thai and steroids dont help too much for a boxing match.Try googling "specificity".
Canseco didn't even know who Vai was when he signed for the fight. He just lost his house and needed some quick cash.....

dang, after watching that clip and reading about it, it's tempting to bet the house. training with bhop, doing boxing-specific training for over a year? incredible. it's clear Canseco hasn't put much though into this.

I worry that Vai doesnt press for the KO if he's outclassing him, and loses a lousy decision.

how many rounds is this bout? more than 3 i hope?

an article says larry holmes watched him work out and gave him pointers. he is taking this very serously as eddy pointed out, enlisting a lot of celebrity supporters.

edit - it seems the bout is 3 rounds 2 minutes each

the shortness works against sikahema, he cant afford to be patient and set up punches, he might have to slug with a fully-charged big man to get the win. stamina and skill are less significant, it could be the big canseco just rushing into him before sikahema gets settled.

love it...the calmness tells us he`s been in there before....and the head movement...lol...pretty good..

the other guy hasn`t...all that nervous energy....he was spent by the end of the second round......

looked like vai took it easy on him...

my mistake gw, it was in the fan feedback section, but the media reports say it is three rounds. one article says each round is 2 minutes, the nbc one says its three rounds.

that makes sense since they will be wearing headgear and viewed as an amateur bout, which is typically 3x2.

what's funny to me is how the populaces are ok with watching people bash each other for petty money as long as they're wearing headgear, when it does next to nothing. in my experience i never sparred with headgear, it makes your head move slower and a bigger target, impairs vision, frequently gets punched out of position, and the punches actually have longer lingering effects with it.

this is somewhat tragic, a pro athlete loses 15 million dollars to two women who contributed nothing to his athletic career, and is reduced to risking his brain capacity for peanuts to pay the woman's bills.

but whatever, if it makes me money ill take it :nooo:

thanks partner.....i`m reading 14 oz gloves...so a stoppage is probably out of the question....

as you stated,a longer fight would have helped our cause immensely.....

three 2-minute rounds is a tad lame....very possible canseco could just try and maul vai....

at least we caught favorable odds...

ever watch a world toughman competition...16oz gloves...three 1 minute rounds and plenty of stoppages.

i`ve seen `em.....somehow i doubt this will be like a toughman contest...

unless sikahema was carrying his other opponent(a disc jockey),i doubt we`ll see a stoppage.....

what could happen is that maybe canseco blows his wad in the first round and collapses from steroid withdrawal(which means he might end up shitting himself)....

but,you never know...i`ll keep an eye out for that over/under...

I can picture Canseco bull rushing toughman style and maybe even getting bloodied up and stopped.

The fight really cannot be taken seriously. I would not feel comfortable betting on a bout like this. Telefutura is tough to bet anymore, this sideshow might end up being 6 minutes of torture.

yeah..it could happen....it seemed weird watching a polynesian do a "willie pep" impression after watching guys like tua and samson pou`ha try to decapitate people....

if canseco really is off the roids,i just hope his testicles re-descended and he can work up a little righteous anger.....

i saw on the internet that the original match-up was canseco vs "the ghost of ken caminiti"....but,ken had a prior commitment...

I know Canseco has been training martial arts for awhile and is a very big strong guy BUT when someone is throwing punches with bad intent at your head - things get a little crazy. Boxing isn't all about muscles and size (ask Tye Fields)

As someone who has had some amateur boxing matches I have to say if Canseco isnt prepared to go 3 full rounds (2 minutes or more) then he will be in a world of shit. I guarantee Vai is ready to go all 3 rounds. When Canseco starts sucking wind because his muscles are deprived of oxygen he's gonna either shell up and take a bunch of shots and lose rounds OR his hands will drop and it'll be target practice on his head.
