...............................................................

They are mad at me and trying not to give me any communications on my winning play.

Its so childish in this forum at times.

you would think the boxing forum would not be like this.

I think I can fix that posting communication though.

Was that when you had PacMac over Oscar? I think I remember that.

The weigh in ends in a shit taken

Shane Mosley stepped off the scale when it hit the welterweight limit of 147 pounds Friday, but then a state athletic commissioner ordered him back on. It then read 147.2 pounds.

"The scale only stopped at 147 just briefly and it ticked upward . . . so he's got to lose two-tenths of a pound," commissioner Timothy Noonan announced to a weigh-in crowd assembled at L.A. Live.

Tijuana's Antonio Margarito, the World Boxing Assn. welterweight champion who'll defend his belt for the first time Saturday night against Mosley in front of an expected crowd of 20,000 at Staples Center, weighed in without drama at 145.8 pounds. He was unsympathetic to Mosley's plight.

"I don't ever have that problem. I always make weight way before," Margarito said. "He has to make that weight. That's his problem."

Less than 10 minutes later, after Mosley's business partner and fellow boxer Bernard Hopkins of Golden Boy Promotions cracked, "You can talk and lose two-tenths of a pound," Mosley weighed in at 147 even.

Asked how he shed the weight that quickly, Mosley shrugged, "Used the restroom.":142smilie

Packing them in

Fight promoters are predicting a Staples Center record crowd tonight as Pomona's Mosley returns for the first time to the scene of his greatest triumph, the action-packed 2000 decision over Oscar De La Hoya.

Staples sold thousands of $25 upper-deck tickets for the Margarito-Mosley bout. With his training center based in the San Gabriel Valley, Margarito (37-5, 27 knockouts) was clearly the crowd favorite at the weigh-in and said he expected similar treatment at the fight.

"This will be my house and I will make them proud," Margarito said.

The 37-year-old Mosley (45-5, 38 KOs) admitted he expected raucous support for the champion, but let it be known who has won four world titles in three different divisions.

"I respect [the fans]," he said, "As long as they know 'Sugar' Shane Mosley is here. Antonio Margarito's a great warrior. This is going to be a real rumble."

Fight strategy

Margarito has made it no secret that his willingness to bring pressure and withstand any Mosley shots with his strong chin is the game plan.

"I've faced stronger punchers than Mosley, and they haven't knocked me out," Margarito said. "The key for me is to pressure him and see if he can stand up to my punches."

Mosley says he possesses the experience and still-sharp reflexes to counter the Margarito power. He replaced his father Jack Mosley as his trainer with Nazim Richardson, who trained the 43-year-old Hopkins to his stunning victory over the younger, stronger Kelly Pavlik in October.

"We plan to make Margarito fight a Shane Mosley fight," Richardson said. "We'll be maneuvering. I do feel just as confident here with Shane as I did with Bernard before Pavlik, more so. I understood the questions about Bernard's age. He was way past 40. I don't understand it with Shane. He's not past his prime. I see his tenaciousness, and the truth will reveal itself [Saturday].

"All I ask is for all of you not to de-fang, or de-claw this guy [Margarito] after we beat him. You're saying he's a monster now. Call him a monster afterward. And call Shane the monster killer."

Mosley said the Margarito style is nothing new to him, given his fights with numerous aggressive Latino fighters.

"Of course, I grew up in California fighting these kinds of fights," Mosley said. "Most Mexicans are strong and come right at you. I know how to handle it. I can be around the war, but not in the war."

Mosley couldn't get out of way from Forrest's right hands 7 years ago; now at 37, with the slower reflexes, he's going to avoid Margarito's , who has the same reach ?

I think it's not out of the question to witness a first class burrying like Lola, even though his non effort probably might never be surpassed.

The more i think to it the more i see Shane on the floor.

Mosley still has sharp punching; his only chance is a tko stoppage ala Vargas 1; but if it goes 12 he's toast no matter what.

He'll fight Antonio Margarito with his mind perhaps on other issues.
Bill Dwyre
January 20, 2009
Boxing always promotes the physical. Muscle over mind. Testosterone over thinking.

Nothing wrong with that. It's not supposed to be bridge or chess. You don't bring tea and crumpets. You bring smelling salts and sutures.

But every once in awhile, state of mind can play as big a role in the outcome as state of mayhem. A case could be made for that when Shane Mosley fights Antonio Margarito in a welterweight title bout Saturday night at Staples Center.

As far as we know, the state of Margarito's mind will be where it has been for all but a few of his battles in a career that has produced a 37-5 record with 27 knockouts. He is the Tijuana Time Bomb, as likely to break your jaw as your heart.

His most recent victory was a knockout of Miguel Cotto in July. Cotto was thought to be invincible. Margarito's victory was convince-able.

About Mosley, at 37 and seven years his senior, Margarito says, "I'll figure him out and I'll get him. If he comes to fight, that's what we'll do. We'll just fight."

Mosley always comes to fight. His 45-5 record includes two career-changing victories over Oscar De La Hoya, the first at Staples. He has proved to be fast, durable and always game.

But Mosley has never proved he can carry as heavy a load with him into the ring as he will this time.

His trainer will be Nazim Richardson, new in his corner. Richardson trains 44-year-old boxing marvel Bernard Hopkins, who along with Mosley is a member of De La Hoya's lucrative Golden Boy promotions business.

Richardson may work out fine, but the man in Mosley's corner for most of his career has been truly the man, his dad, Jack Mosley, who started his son in the sweet science at age 8.:scared

Mosley explains their split-up succinctly.

"We were butting heads a little bit," he says.

Jack elaborates.

"He's going to use Bernard's trainer, and you know how Oscar and Bernard and Shane are all in this thing together," he says. "Every time one of them fights, all three get paid big. All those guys are going to be multimillionaires."

The senior Mosley, still living in Pomona and training fighters, remains loyal and supportive. He says he'll be at the fight Saturday night and expects Shane to be even better than ever because doctors recently fixed a nasal blockage that was causing a loss of as much as 60% of his oxygen flow.:SIB

Pressed a bit on the real reason behind his departure from Mosley's corner, Jack Mosley says, "I was trainer and manager until Shane got married. Then, you know how that goes. The woman moved in and things changed."

Which brings up potential mental burden No. 2 for Mosley. Shane and his wife, Jin, are going through marital problems.:scared

This represents more than your usual marital upheaval because, besides being the mother of three of Shane's children, Jin Mosley is among the more interesting people you'll ever meet. She is a New Yorker, part Korean, part Irish, both business savvy and business feisty, who has been at the wheel of the ship as Mosley's career sailed nicely forward for the last six or seven years.

"Shane is now managing his own affairs," says Richard Schaefer, chief executive of Golden Boy Promotions.

Then, pile BALCO on top of all this and one wonders how Mosley even sleeps at night, much less trains and focuses for a fight against a guy who, given the chance, could stomp him.
...............................................................

Lets add this up

Balco shit
new trainer
woman problems
big money at stake

= skate through this fight and survive dude.

The big thing I have to think about for the over is that Mosley has only been down once in his career. And he has not shunned the big punchers.
Margarito is a good body puncher and has knocked guys out with his body punchs, but Mosely is much too smart to not cover most of them shots.

I got to believe that Mosely goes into survive mode , will not want to be embarressed, and will use his ring savvy to survive.

I agree with you the over should hit, but this is at 147, and Shane might be too old to make the weight.

When Margo goes to the body he throws punches in bunches, and mixes it with the head.

Mosley will be too brave for his own good, as usual, and by the tenth his tank will run empty after having pulled all the stops.

It all depends if Margo comes for blood.

" I can be around the war, but not in the war "
