Well, if intelligence and success in school is not important to you as a part of forming an opinion about a person being qualified to lead and make sensible decisions, then more power to you. Of course it's not the only thing, but I would think it would be somewhat important. And I would definitely think that someone who performed relatively poorly in that regard would definitely be a consideration. To each their own, I guess.

Looking at the whole package, as you would, two questions:

1. who would you trust more with the nuclear football, Palin or Obama, and

2. time machine 46 years to October, 1962, who would you rather have advising Jack Kennedy during the Cuban missle crisis, Sarah Palin or Joe Biden.

i didn't say anything about intelligence not being required...but some people are under the impression that you only garner intelligence if you go to college & i think that is wrong...don't get me wrong a college education is great, but it doesn't educate you in the real world...

see eddie this is whats wrong with todays politics...people are so partisan that they only trust the party that they they belong to...and to answer your questions...

i would trust whoever wins the election with the bomb because the decision would not be a 1 person decision....

as far as the missle crisis is concerned you can't compare a senator's knowledge with a governor's knowledge...

so we are in 1962...who would you rather have advising jfk.....joe biden or fdr, joe biden or bill clinton....senators & governors bring different things to the table...that is what advisors are for...

btw jfk handled the missle crisis perfectly...but blew it in the bay of pigs fiasco..

I agree on the bay of pigs. He did stand up to Nikita but if you will recall was a very scary time. I remember in 6th grade Sister Mary Cornelia telling us to duck under our desks if the air raid sirens went off.

Thanks, sister. That was very helpful.

By the way, nice dodge on the questions. I am asking a straight question. I'm not a democrat. I know you have to answer Obama and Biden because you have a brain. No one in their right mind would say Palin to either question (unless of course they are itchin to witness first hand the Rapture).

In response to yours, Biden, FDR, Clinton would be fine. Let me add a couple more, Reagan, Bush, Sr. Qualye, eh, scratch Qualye, Ford, Kissenger, even Nixon. Bush, Cheney are dangerous. But Palin is incompetent, dangerous, unqualified, and guided by biblical emotional irrational principles. No thanks.

The only reason I brought this up was in response to what I saw as being a dismissive remark about intelligence and school performance in looking at qualifications for office. In reality, one of the few ways to really distinguish candidates for office at these levels IS intelligence and scholastic achievement. Most people think candidates who eventually make it to this point have sold out, probably lied and hid negatives about their past - I would agree with that - but seems to me to dismiss intelligence and success in college when businesses themselves look at that when hiring people to hopefully succeed for them in positions of importance just seems short-sighted.

It's actually very similar, and I think worth as much as someone who is successful in business, considering what a President has to do, and what positions he (or she) can have around them to help them conduct the business and activities of the office.

For the record, I dropped out of college to work an additional job and attempt to support my new family. I became somewhat experienced and successful on my own after that, so I don't think a degree necessarily guarantees anything. But it certainly can't hurt, considering how important the position is we're talking about.
