Hmm, sneaking suspicion about the saints correct, sort of - although they were fundamentally atrocious - so were Collingwood, looking at those numbers, either that, or crappy statisticians (which is possible)

Geez what a tough weekend to date with both bets just failing to cover the spread.

Carlton 82 Kangaroos 69 (was on Carlton -16.5)
Collingwood 98 St K 80 (was on Collingwood -20.5)

Carlton and Collingwood were down by 6 goals in their respective matches and showed they were the better sides with their comebacks. There was plenty of time left to kick one more goal for us but not to be ......

Thank god for the Golf which is helping cover the AFL defeats this weekend.

went to Essendon game - after first 10 minutes, all over - Lloyd got one of the softest frees I have ever seen - was slightly bumped in the upper arm in a marking duel, got a free, and a goal, after taking about 5 seconds to get the first one then almost all over

Hawks fought back a little, Crawford did a knee, and the Fat Lady was calling for the strepsils from overwork

by this time I was in the bar, and happily ran into some people I knew from high school and had a few more

enough said about that game, not much to be learned from that

and Anders is happy with footy, if not the Super 12s, nice choke Lions

and as mentioned before, West Coast are soft, and crap.

Carlton/Collingwood games good examples of why I dislike pointspread favorites in footy - which means I should like underdogs more, but I don't, so am I silly?

Last nights results:

Wstn Bdogs 125 West Coast 77
smile.gif

Adelaide 127 Brisbane 122
Essendon 122 Hawthorn 57

Wstn Bdogs do the job nicely easily covering the spread. Adelaide continue their good form beating Brisbane at the GABBA. Essendon are just too good and will almost certainly win the flag this year IMO.

AV,

I totally agree with your dislike of point spread favourites in the AFL. The main reason being because with the exception of Essendon, there is not much difference between all the teams. You could have 2nd vs 13th or 3rd vs 15th and have a close matchup.

As you said Carlton and Collingwood were examples of the disadvantages of betting on point spread favourites. A weekend where my picks were 3-0 SU ended up 1-2 ATS.

Anders,

Nice work going 3-1 this weekend on the AFL.

Cheers Guys - I also shared the frustrations of the Blues' and Pies' narrow failures to cover but was cheered up the three late wins to make it a winning weekend.
Season to date: 17-13 (56.67%)
Will now jump into this with boots on with the Super 12 over

No plays today; imagine trying to win money from Sydney v Fremantle

Sydney Fremantle = yuck for sure

team that doesn't want to play vs one that can't?

Port Adelaide on now, Demons coming back a little - so this will be interesting

ROUND 9 RECAP
At the end of the round it looks as though a goal has been the cause of nearly every loss we had. Carlton, Collingwood and Sydney all winning but failing to cover by less than a goal.

Total ATS Round 9: 7-8 (47%)

Round 9 Results:
Anders 3-2 Nice work
gloveski 2-2 and picked up a $4.06 pick 4
Cartman88 1-2 2 goals from a 3-0 round
Beast2 1-2 Also 2 goals from a 3-0 round

Sunday results:

Port Adel 88 Melbourne 68
Geelong 118 Richmond 76
Sydney 84 Fremantle 65

When I woke up this morning there was no way that I was going to have a bet on these matches. Then I saw the quote from Aussie Vamp "team that doesn't want to play vs one that can't" in reference to the Sydney vs Fremantle match. That got me thinking that getting 20 points start against a team such as Sydney may not be so bad. So I made a very late decision (2 mins b4 kickoff) to get on Fremantle +20.5 and they get beaten by 19.

Certainly helped ease some of the pain from the close Carlton and Collingwood losses.

Yeah, have no problem betting 'scummy best team I have ever seen' Essendon as a pointspread favorite, bit of a rare case

might be a bit irrational this too as probably same percentage of favorites win and cover as in other stuff, but anyway

can still remember one half point Eagles game
aargghh

those usually meaningless behinds

The boys on the Monday Dump gave the 'team that doesn't want to play' a bit of what they deserve too

thanks Beast for posting my results as i have been busy.
season to date
line selections 15-13 (after going 2-2)
pick4 1-0 +4.06

Looking for a round that is not a split decision could have easy gone 4-0 but to the bad starts of Carlton and Coll'wood.
Goodluck to all next weekend.
