This is Jack's business but it is our community. We have all chosen to invest time and extend friendships here. To meet one another in real life, to congratulate one's good fortune as well as express our condolensces and prayers when there is pain.

This is our community make no mistake about it. There will always be conflict. But there should never be hate. Should never laugh at the fate of those in need. Should never accept racially charged innuendos.

I do not have to accept them. Ignore is not the option here. I choose not to ignore. I have integrity and I do not wish to see an unacceptable cycle of racial slurs or hate within this community.

It should be a zero tolerance at this point. I have a life outside of this community filled with values and as the social networks evolve to the virtual world those values should be placed here as well.

We should not lose members of value because of the ongoings of the unworthy.

Raymond puts Jack in a tough spot. I don't care if Raymond is a racist. I'm actually grateful for his shit because it fucked the poly forum enough that I don't bother wasting any more time there. That's a very good thing.

There are plenty of racists of all races in my community. But Raymond is a moron who makes no consideration of the bind he puts his friend Jack in.

So Jack has to look out for his community, yet try his best to give his longtime racist friend some benefit of some doubt. Good luck, Jack.:(

I really don't think Raymond is a racist but agree the haiti post was way over the line--

My reason for saying that is I believe Raymonds anger is more political than racist as never saw post similiar prior to election.

Got to be tough times for concrete business--

Can imagine latest constitutional abuse didn't set well with him --letting gov workers/union workers skate on proposed ins tax but everyone else pays--had a few choice words for those responsible myself--:SIB

I understand that Ray has been here a long time and by all accounts was once a good guy. The thing is that people do change and for my money this guy brings absolutely nothing to the table any longer.

He made some posts in political that easily could have really brought down some real heat on Jack and now goes off on this route. For Christ's sake he's not even a mediocre handicapper anymore as well.

His shit is tired, weak and delivered with the skills and style of a 10 yr. old. I say see you later and don't let the door hit ya..... Go find another forum to pollute.

Good post, Woody. But, you make it sound a lot easier than it is. Racist comments are not always easy to identify.

There are many, many borderline comments that a lot would say are racist and a lot would say are not racist.

What would you classify RAYMOND's thread he started a couple days ago titled "Do you like watermelon?". Some see that as racist, some don't and it's impossible to prove either way.

I think it is but had I reacted to it the way I wanted to (dumpster), I would have taken heat from a lot of other people that didn't think it was.

There are many more examples over the last few months, not only made by RAY, BTW, but I used this example because it's what I have been dealing with.

I can't make everybody happy and I've known that for years but I try my best. That's all I can do.

You guys can help too, since it is your community, and report posts that you don't agree with so IE and I can take a closer look.

It's a vertually thankless job that you and IE have. Woody is right on one thing.....this is a community, and sometimes communities have to police themselves. Like I've said before, I look at people on here as my friends, not just internet people. I've been around here for almost 10 years now, and I really do appreciate the work that you do. It's nice to get on here and BS with people, as well as bounce ideas and perspectives off those same people.

Bottom line is you are right Jack. You can never make everyone happy. People need to take personal responsibility though. Sober or not, when a person says something, they are responsible for those actions and the consequences that go along with them. It's just unfortunate when friends put other friends in harms way, whether its intentional or not.

Jack: While I understand your position on struggling with what is and what is not racist, I think you could make it a lot easier on yourself. Context is difficult to discern, but the originator is not. In most cases, the threads that start with something that could be "baiting" others to pounce are started by guys with a history of racial slurs. If this same watermelon thread was started by HappyHippo, you would not have given it a second thought.....well, you probably would have wondered if she hit her head because her IQ must have plummeted to start a thread of such non-sense. Furthermore, where exactly would a thread like this go? "Do you like watermelons?" doesn't have a lot of staying power because it is a yes or no question with little room for explanation.

I guess what I'm saying is that if you have to think about it, it has immediate dumpster potential. If the originator is a shit starter, the next step should involve trashing it before it goes anywhere. The guys that complain about them being harmless threads all seem to be the same dicks that qualify for Auto-Dumpster, so don't let them try to sway you.

Wayne: You really don't think Ray is racist? Really? He doesn't get a pass because the cement business sucks and he doesn't like the president. Sorry.

Funny how so many people have a "conscience" about the things Raymond says, but have no problem with anti-women posts. I've taken a lot of sh*t from people for no other reason than being a female.

If you don't like Ray's posts, ignore them. Yeah, he acts childish sometimes, but so do many other people on here. Not to mention, I've read plenty of threads from posters like Shawn 555 that have a racial bent against whites and toward blacks.

It's just like real life; there are plenty of people who seem decent and enjoy good conversation/banter. Trying to police every little thing people say is impossible. I mean, if a post like "Do you like watermelon?" is going to set you off, that's ridiculous. There sure seems to be a lot of double standards around here regarding what is acceptable. Outrage for some, and selectively choosing to ignore others.
