Above the Clouds....
It started bothering me about 4 weeks ago so I went to the Dr. Did the injection and PT and no better. The shot didn't even touch it.
Dr. told me yesterday he could get me in and get it done in 2 weeks. Pain is unbearable at times so I said let's do it.
He said I was one of the lucky ones that I didn't have the lingering pain for months like most. Mine came on quick and they had an opening. He said some people wait several months to get in.

Never had one, but I know all about it from work experience from post op to rehab. If u want to call me sometime, feel free, and I?ll give u the low down. Find out if the surgeon is doing a traditional approach or an anterior approach (side of the leg vs groin area).

Had titanium hip installed in 2002. Put it off until the bone on bone feeling got more frequent.
Rehab was not too bad. Had a great PT. Not had a problem with it in 16 years.
Only problem is now my other hip is bothering me and I may have to have that one replaced.
Operation takes about 1.5 hours. They do make you get out of bed the next day and start the rehab. Within a few weeks you will be saying you wish you had done this sooner.
Good luck with the operation.

SixFive, I appreciate that. I do know he's doing it from the side.

Lowell, they told me rehab started an hour after you get back to your room. Doc. said if I have it done earliy in the morning I could go home the same day. Amazing what they do now. I had plates in my ankle 6 months ago and they had me up doing stairs as soon as I got back to my room.

Lucy, actually looking forward to it so I can get back to normal.

Coming up on 6 years. Get it done. I was very young(47) to have one done. Rehab not so bad because of my age. Pain gone. Driving 3 weeks later. Played golf 4 months later. I think we live in same area. I live near Albany. Happy to discuss or answer questions.

I'm up near Saratoga. Actually looking forward to getting it done the pain is getting to me. I'm 64 so hoping I bounce back fairly quick. The PT I go to is really good and she said she would help all I wanted. I'm sure I'll have questions. I go to joint class tomorrow.

If you haven't yet ,
would see a chiropractor first , he may be able to line you up .
you will be able to tell after first visit , and would make sure he showed xray to see if you were bone on bone . at worst you can confirm you really need to have replacement . 2nd opinion

see a chiropractor he may cure or atlease prolong the knife for a few years .

William, I did have 5 visits to the chiropractor when this became an issue. At one point he did ask if I have been to an ortho doc and had X-rays. The last visit was on a Friday and by Sunday I couldn't walk. I got an app't with a doc and he gave my pain pills, scheduled a hip injection and PT. The hip injection didn't work, PT made it worse to the point it took 2 days to recover.
It was so bad over the weekend I had to get an app't. That's when he scheduled surgery. I am using a cane and it helps but honestly I can't walk more than a few hundred feet.

Morris,

I don't mean to make light of your situation,
but given your current condition,
your signature is prophetic -

Seriously, i pray the surgery is a complete success and by Christmas,
you'll post pics of you doing back flips in your driveway.

damn Morris ...super he could get you in so fast...For what it's worth I had lawn customers our age who had the hip replacement that were out walking talking to me weeks later.Their biggest gripe was the therapist being so stern with them...all have said they wished they had done it sooner..

with that said I have put it off for over a year....

:toast: here is a Lipton Tea and a Cold One to a swift rehab and you back doing all the things you love to do pain free.

OS, when I was there he asked if I wanted first available and I said yes I was in a lot of pain. He said hang on a second and left, when he came back he said he had a cancellation and I could do it on the 20th. He did say everyone always says why did I wait so long. From what I understand is one night home the next day, walker for a week then a cane and PT.

Yep , you need hip replacement...
I had mine and glad I did . you will feel great fast BUT what take time is the effect of muscle , ligament and tendons getting stretch and out of place as they repair . not to mention the cut they make they take time to get back to normal.
THERAPY the more you do the better you will heal as it take about 6 months to really heal . you will feel good fast just don't blow off therapy ???.. you will happy you did it ?. :toast:

Did the pre-testing and joint class today. Joint class was a total waste of time. Counting down......
