If we don't confront any physical complications, my wife and I don't have a set number to stop at.

We joke that if we were like most everyone else and started our family in our early 30s (didn't marry until I was 32, she was 27), we'd be at number 5 or 6 by now; with no set number, either.
But I'm 45, she's 40, we have one of each so 2 is our magic number....

I had a vasectomy at age 27 after our 2 awesome kids were born healthy. One of the best decisions I ever made.

Caution to you "2 and out" guys in this thread. If you don't get the vasectomy or she doesn't get her tubes tied, she will be wanting more kids in a few years when yours get to be school aged. If you really just want the 2, then do something permanent to ensure that. Just sayin'...

My 2nd boy arrived 8 weeks early at 4 lbs. A month in NICU was tough for us all. The decision to stop at 2 was easy for us.

This is pretty odd logic. The "want" that your wife (or you -- you never know) may or may not have for more children would not necessarily go away just because you physically can't conceive more.

But the (semi) permanence of the decision of vasectomy or tied tubes "could" cause emotional strain on your relationship for what "could" be considered a selfish decision. :)

I didn't write about all the problems during both pregnancies such as bleeding, bedrest, heartache with not knowing if the baby was still alive or not for weeks, etc. That sure played a roll in the decision as well. I'm also not catholic, so birth control is just fine and I'm not encouraged to have a house full of kids. Not dogging you, J. I think it's awesome that you all want to have a lot of kids. I'm quite sure you're awesome parents!

Did not know you and your wife had experienced so many complications.

Not sure what my comments above have to do with Catholicism.
