Thiago Alves underwent successful surgery needed to repair the brain anomaly that kept him out of his UFC 111 bout against Jon Fitch. He hopes to return to training soon.
Alves? camp, American Top Team, revealed the news on Wednesday stating that everything went perfect with the surgery, and first comment after waking up was asking when he could train again.

Prior to his fight at UFC 111, Alves was forced out of the bout when a CAT scan revealed a potentially dangerous problem in the fighter?s brain, and the commission would not allow him to compete.
Immediately following the prognosis, Alves saw specialists in New York and scheduled a surgery to repair the issue.
Over the weekend, Alves held a press conference in New York to confirm the issue, stating he would undergo surgery and hoped to return to action by May.
The recovery should keep Alves out of action and training for at least a few weeks, but then he can resume normal activities and schedule his next fight.

Anyone have an opinion on this? I think it is a dick move on Dana's part. Training with a guy all this time and now u have to fight him? I think it is more that Fitch rubs Dana the wrong way. I wonder if this was Liddel and Dana made him fight his friend. Now i think it might be a little different if someone was hassling me for a title shot and the number one contender was his friend but Dana could go Fitch/Hardy or Fitch /Johnson instead of forcing him to fight Kos. Lets see if Dana ever mentions little Nog against Machida or Dos Santos vs Big Nog. I doubt he will cause he doesn't have the same hardon he has with Fitch.

having 2 high level guys who won't fight each other, but will eliminate other guys from rising to the top of the division is bad.

however, forcing 2 guys to fight each other who don't want to, would likely make for a shitty fight.

i think the 170 lb class is in a little worse shape than the other divisions because the number of options are limited, fitch and koscheck are already in the contention spot.

big nog's brain is gone, he shouldn't be fighting anyone the caliber of dos santos.

i'm pretty sure lil nog has said he would fight machida.

can you imagine if fitch or koscheck won the title? while the other guy eliminated contenders.

dana should probably put one of them in the undercard facing no-names so he doesn't eliminate contenders.

it's a screwed up situation which i don't recall seeing in boxing.

Please tell me that UFC 115 is on free tv.
Dana talks about how he needs to do something for the fans for what Silva did.

This will make two things he needs to do for the fans after making them pay for this shit card.

This card is pure shit.
