Outright plays (total stake per play: 1pt)

Jim Furyk to win 12/1 e.w. available generally
Furyk has been in great form over the last month or so and it is difficult to see him not being in contention this week. He was 5th here at the 1997 U.S. Open and 6th heading into the weekend when the weather-affected Booz Allen Classic was played here two years ago. Victory this week could see him return to 2nd place in the World Rankings for added incentive this week.

Adam Scott to win 22/1 e.w. @ Victor Chandler
Have backed the No.3 in the world rankings and will now back No.4: Adam Scott. Despite his missed cut in the U.S. Open, he has become much more consistent on this Tour with a victory in the Houston Open in April and finishes of 6th, 5th and 7th before Oakmont. And then there is his performance in 2005 when he finished 2nd on this course and looked set to win for the second year in a row until his approach at the 17th hole not only bounced through the green, but managed to bounce through a bunker as well before ending up in the water. That was a tough break, but he could certainly make amends this time around.

Nick O'Hern to finish in the top-five 14/1 @ BetFred
O'Hern was a full-time member of the European Tour when this course was used in 2005, but with finishes of 6th and 23rd in the last two U.S. Opens, he has shown that he can play well on some of the tougher American courses. He also played well in the PGA Tour event in Maryland last year - the Booz Allen Classic - when finishing 2nd and finished 3rd last time out (Travelers Championship), so he has clearly found his level on this Tour. Not exactly a prolific converter of winning chances in Europe and Australia, so the place option is the best one with O'Hern, but I would still have expected at least a couple of points lower than 14/1.

Yes, 2005 Booz Allen Classic when it was wet, plus the 1997 U.S. Open when it played more like the expected conditions this week and Furyk was 5th. It has hosted other majors and the Kemper Open, but they were too long ago to be of any relevance this week.

9 and 67 to lead a group of 12 players who earned exemptions to Carnoustie in two weeks.

Putnam won the qualifier with a four-under 136 total, beating John Senden and Ryan Moore by two shots.

In England, Northern Ireland's Graeme McDowell posted rounds of 67 and 64 to lead a qualifier at Sunningdale, where 16 players earned berths in the Open.

"I certainly did not want to be sitting at home while The Open is going on," said McDowell, who finished at nine-under 131.

Charley Hoffman, Matt Kuchar, Anders Hultman and Brian Davis shared fourth place at Oakland Hills, coming in at one-under 139. Jerry Kelly and Sean O'Hair qualified another shot further back at 140.

Duffy Waldorf, Mark Hensby and Spencer Levin escaped a six-way playoff for the final three spots. Kevin Streelman, Robert Oppenheim and Steve Allan were the other three players at one-over 141.

The 15 players who qualified behind McDowell at Sunningdale were Peter Hanson, Miguel Angel Jimenez, Nick Dougherty, Ross Fisher, Alastair Forsyth, Gregory Bourdy, Oliver Wilson, Benn Barham, Fredrik Andersson, Mattias Eliasson, Francesco Molinari, David Frost, Mark Foster, Jose-Filipe Lima and Peter Baker.

Last year's European Ryder Cup captain, Ian Woosnam, was among the players who did not qualify at Sunningdale.

Camilo Villegas, Rocco Mediate, Jesper Parnevik and Steve Elkington highlighted the names of players who failed to qualify at Oakland Hills.

Thirteen more players earned spots in qualifiers held in South Africa, Singapore and Australia earlier this year.

Date: July 5 ? 8, 2007
Location: Congressional C.C ? Bethesda, MD
2006 Champion: N/A
FedEx Cup points: 25,000
2007 Purse: $6.0 million ($1,080,000 to winner)

Tournament Recap
This slot in the PGA TOUR shedule was originally set to be contested in Colorado at The International, but that event was eliminated before the season began. In it's place, AT&T and Tiger Woods stepped up for the first annual AT&T National, which is dedicated to those serving in the U.S. Armed Forces. Congressional Country Club has not been a regular stop on TOUR since 1986, but it served as the temporary home for the Booz Allen Classic in 2005, when Sergio Garcia used a final-round 65 to overtake Adam Scott for the victory. Ben Crane and Davis Love III tied Scott in second place.

The Course
Congressional is regularly regarded as one of the best golf courses in the country. It's set in the rolling terrain of Bethesda, MD, and features tree-lined fairways. It's wide, challenging greens are as much of a trademark as is the rich history of the course, which boasts a half-dozen Presidents of the United States on its list of former members.

The Field
It wouldn't do fantasy golfers much good to play their top draft pick when he doesn't plan on teeing it up, which is why fantasy owners have to be very cognizant of who is playing each week. As a courtesy, we've provided this link to the official field as provided by PGATOUR.com.

Note: It's a good idea to check this list for the official field of players again on Wednesday, as it is not unusual for golfers to drop out of tournaments in the days leading up the first round.

**AT&T National Official Field.

Leaderboards
**Editor's Note: The AT&T National is a new event, but Congressional has hosted PGA TOUR events in the past. It was the home of the Kemper Open in the early 1980s and, most recently, hosted the Booz Allen Classic in 2005. Those results are shown below.

Tough matchups thus far at the greek. Im lookin at weir over dl3. Love just sucks right now. His putting is almost dead last on tour. Also lookin at funk. He is skippin the US Senior Open to play here. Im a little worried about playin so many weeks in a row, but this is a home game for him. I should have other plays, but Im goin large over Hefty. Even if he was healthy it should be near a pick em. Furyks last few events hes finished in the top 5 or so.

3rd last time out and a fast finishing 2nd in this event (i.e. Booz Allen Classic) last year.

Has not played this course previously, but I'm banking on it being a tough examination (unlike 2005), so finishes of 23rd and 6th in the last 2 U.S. Opens are good for me.

Has always played tough courses well and is now looking to have reached the level that he attained on the European Tour where he became a top-10 machine. A frequent bottler, so always a place-only bet on O'Hern for me.

Considering the event was thrown together earlier this season after the plug was pulled on the The INTERNATIONAL, this week's AT&T National should be quite the event. Not only has Tiger Woods slapped his Herbie Hancock on the proceedings as host of the event, but the tournament's timing (4th of July) and proximity to the nation's capital make it the perfect venue to honor the military, as Mr. Woods will do throughout the week. On the course, a strong contingent of the world's best players have exercised their First Amendment rights and will assemble at Congressional C.C. for a good, old fashioned, golf tournament. There's little history to go on, but we'll still handicap the field as best we can with our weekly fantasy preview.

The Favorites
As always, Woods is the obvious favorite, but he'll get strong challenges from a number of elite players. Let's start with Phil Mickelson, who will be teeing it up for the first time since the U.S. Open. He shut things down entirely for a couple of weeks and is reportedly still feeling some pain in his injured wrist, so fantasy owners shouldn't be surprised if he's still kicking off some rust in Maryland this week. Published reports indicated a week ago that Vijay Singh was going to rest his ailing elbow and ankle until the British Open, but he remains listed among the entrants on the PGA TOUR's website, so it appears as if he'll give it a go. His questionable health status is a reason not to trust him this week. Adam Scott tied for second place in the most recent PGA TOUR event to be held at Congressional (the 2005 Booz Allen Classic). He also carded three straight top 10s before missing the cut at Oakmont a few weeks back, so look for him to get back on track. Jim Furyk has two runner-up finishes and two other top-five results in his last five events. He joins Scott as the mostly likely golfers to knock Tiger off this week.

The Best of the Rest
Geoff Ogilvy has been inconsistent so far in 2007, but he's the sixth member of the top 10 who'll be teeing it up this week and shouldn't be overlooked. Davis Love III has played far too poorly all season long to get much mention as a contender, but considering he tied for second in 2005 and finished T16 at the 1997 U.S. Open at Congressional, it wouldn't be a shock to see his name on the leaderboard. Among those riding hot streaks coming into this week are Justin Rose and Aaron Baddeley, both of whom could make some noise over the weekend. Finally, keep an eye on Steve Stricker, who has been playing very well lately and who was tied for second place at Congressional in the 1997 U.S. Open before fading back into the pack over the weekend.

Player Trends
Since there's no history to speak of for this tournament (outside of the 2005 Booz Allen Classic, which was also contested at Congressional), this week we'll combine the "Who's Hot, Who's Not" and "Player Trends" sections. Below is a listing of players entered into this week's event, with their last five PGA TOUR results listed in parentheses (most recent first).

The Good
Justin Rose (T9, T10, T5, T5, T62)
Aaron Baddeley (T13, T9, T37, T43, T10)
Brandt Snedeker (T10, T23, T5, Cut, T29)
Fredrik Jacobson (T10, Cut, T17, T5, Cut)
Bubba Watson (three top-five finishes in his last eight events)

The Bad
Peter Lonard (Cut, T29, Cut, T18, Cut)
Stuart Appleby (Cut, T26, Cut, T51, T16)
Charles Howell III (Cut, T51, WD, Cut, 79)
Vaughn Taylor (Cut, Cut, T46, WD, Cut)
Robert Allenby (T64, Cut, T12, Cut, Cut)

The Ugly
Davis Love III (Cut, Cut, T58, T75, T43)

Weekly Rankings
1. Tiger Woods
2. Jim Furyk
3. Adam Scott
4. Geoff Ogilvy
5. Davis Love III

Between Green Bay and Iowa City
On the fly . . .
I'm off through the weekend for an :00x21 Independence Day :00x21 vacation. I doubt I will be too tired late tomorrow night to figure out some slate of plays to post before I crash. I didn't help matters by misplacing the Euro sheet I marked up on Monday in what as of this late hour has been my only purposeful review so far this week of any field or prices.

Beginning with the U.S. Open and continuing through last week I've had various interests that have had me keenly following all the events by television, internet newspapers, shot-by-shot and hole-by hole scoreboard tracking, daily lines, the usual, and have been more than satisfied with my handle on what's unfolding. Hopefully it can continue into the start of this week, but for the next two weeks of events (at least) I'll be completely out of my favorable routines, and will likely need to catch something isolated rather than expect to sustain any depth of insight . . . Well, I meant what I said and said what I meant, whether or not it means anything to anyone else.

In parting, I caught Matt Gogel on a golfchannel program, and during the course of his amusing references to his holding the course record at Congressional (a 63 in 2005), he flatly stated that Congressional definitely favors a right to left ball flight. And it's worked for some people to avoid backing Tiger on Par 70's. And Kaymer is carring some of my cash this week.

Hey fellas......my computer has some silly virus where I cant effectively use any search engine.....looks like I have some spyware in there.....SO I was hoping for some help.

Do any of you have any results from the 2004 US Open qualifying at Congressional?

This is one of the final things I am using to handicap the field this week.

Thanks in advance!
