Round 1 plays (1pt):

Michael Allen to beat Jeff Klauk -125 @ FiveDimes
Winning his debut event on the Champions Tour - and the Senior PGA Championship at that - appears to have re-invigorated Allen's game. He shot no worse than 68 in all four rounds last week when finishing 14th in the Travelers Championship and can be confident of another good finish this week on a course in which he has played well in the past: in his two previous appearances he has been 6th after the 1st round in 2005 and he shot three rounds in the 60s last year to finish 24th. Klauk, by contrast, is making his course debut and has broken 70 just once in his last ten 1st rounds.

Brett Quigley to beat James Nitties -125 @ FiveDimes
Similar story here. Quigley has finished 21st and 40th in his two previous visits to Congressional and comes into this event in improving form, finishing 29th last time out. Nitties is making his course debut and while he gained attention in May due to two consecutive top-20 finishes, since then he has finished 54th, mc, 49th and mc.

Anthony Kim to beat Davis Love -141 @ Unibet
Finishes of 16th and 11th in the last two weeks are evidence of a much improved form for Kim who had been struggling since January. As definding champion (he also finished 25th in 2007), he clearly has the course form to play well again here and should easily defeat Love.

K.J. Choi to beat Davis Love -120 @ Paddy Power [tie loses]
Kim won this event last year; Choi won it in 2007. And, as with Kim, his form has been improving since the last couple of events, so he should be confident of another good performance here. There has been little indication this year that Love will be competitive for two events in a row.

Stuart Appleby to beat Bryce Molder +110 @ FiveDimes
Taking a chance on Appleby re-discovering his game given his excellent course form: in 2005 he finished 7th here (2nd with one round to play); in 2007 he led for the first three rounds before finishing 3rd; and last year he was 6th after the opening round. Molder has been in good form recently, but the odds are high enough to tempt me with such a difference in course form (Molder is making his course debut).

Not much on the cards for me in the golfing world of sport. Just gonna throw a few units on Tiger Woods in a matchup.

Points -125 over Piercy

Nice choice, from what appears to be thin air. Whenever a capper makes a play from an obscure position, I'd like to know how that golfer got selected. This is how I learn new things. I've been doing this for a long time, but I'm not too old to learn. Points, a 6 under, unreal, from a golfer that most people never heard of. Good luck on this selection, I think it's a solid play.

That's an unbelievable line. I would have thought at least double that on an 18 hole line and close to triple that on a 72 hole line. Great value!

Gotcha

Gotcha

It was 1.45 ... the decimal odds line, which equates to -222 in moneyline terms.

Thanks Stanley. I kind of thought that might be the case but haven't seen lines quoted in decimal fashion that often here.

Still, at -222, good value on an 18 hole matchup which I assume it was. Great value if it was a 72 hole matchup, however, in this case, you would prefer 18 holes after the fact.

Either way, Tiger is looking good. Also seems Kim is back and looking to be a regular force again.

Disappointment of the first day had to be KJ Choi, who won this tourney two years ago, posting a 7.

Thanks man, been so busy with my new job.. thus this weeks post count is way down.
Basically Piercy wd like 5 weeks ago due to a wrist injury and hadn't played since.. he was new to this course which has thick rough, and if your game isnt sharp you have no chance. Points just happened to be playing against him, i expected Piercy to shoot +4 or so.. didnt expect DA to go that low, but he has played well of late.

My one piece of advice is to keep a detailed list of the injuries.. although its hard to know for sure when a guy wd's if its a legit injury

DT -- you are so right about tracking injuries.

I thought your play was a fade on Piercy and Points just fell opposite him. Although DA has been ok, there was no real reason to jump on him. The Piercy injury was your interest. I think you said you play 5Dimes. I need to reload there. They give you all the players unlike many books which just focus on the featured players. I personally enjoy playing the ranked players more but it's nice to have the option on the bottom of the card too.

Yes playing the ranked players is different since they for the most part are more consistent. However, the lines are a lot tighter..
Betting on some of these journey guys will age you quickly..

Crazy that Stewie shoots under par FINALLY and still doesnt cash, lots of value in that play,
