I might start dabbling around with golf bets too. I always come in and read everyone's post/thoughts.

Question, which of the 3 courses in the rotation is the easiest this week?

jr11

i guess it'll be poppy.

Round 1 plays (1pt)

Fredrik Jacobson to beat Daisuke Maruyama -145 @ Pinnacle
Jacobson can play these courses well - he was 3rd after 36 holes on his previous visit; Maruyama missed the cut on his only previous visit - but the difference between these two players is shown by their head-to-head records: 11-4-1 over the last 12 months and in the first round alone it is 10-3-3

Jason Day to beat Greg Norman -135 @ The Greek
Norman may have played well in the South African Open in December, but that is his only Tour start in the last 12 months. And the last time he started a PGA Tour event was back in 2006 - he missed the cut as he has done in his last six PGA Tour starts. The last time he broke 70 on this Tour was in August 2003 ... how can he be a match for such a great prospect as Day?

Between Green Bay and Iowa City
OUTRIGHTS:

Mike Weir(18/1) e.w.
- - Besides having reasons to be a little ornery, something of a small greens and California specialist.

Daniel Chopra(33/1) e.w.
- - My 5th Indian.

Kevin Sutherland(50/1) e.w.
- - Alert: Of any player on Tour that comes to mind, his swing most reminds me of my own - not that that's a good thing.

Nick Watney(50/1) e.w.
- - He showed a lot at Kapalua and he wants this to be the place, but his putting and birdie conversion rate suggest somewhere else.

Kenneth Ferrie(150/1) e.w.
- - What an odd assortment on my radar I had left to chose from: Ferrie, Rumford, Clark, Harrington and Elkington, plus Mediate, Mahan and Byrd becaues I'm light on Yanks. Right here and now, just playing a hunch as the best priced choice for getting untracked and then miraculously taking it across the finish line.

GL

***************************************

Borrowed from elsewhere:

Last 10 winners: Age - Prev win on tour - Event form - Recent form.

07 - Mickelson - 36 - Yes - Yes - Poor (MC in FBR)
06 - Oberholser - 31 - No - Yes - Promising (2 nice perfs)
05 - Mickelson - 34 - Yes - Yes - Yes won FBR
04 - Singh - 40 - Yes - Yes - Yes - 3rd in FBR
03 - Love - 38 - Yes - Yes - not bad, 12th Bob Hope
02 - Gogel - 30 - No - Yes - Not really 2 x mc & 28th FBR
01 - Love - 36 - Yes - yes - Not bad, 10th in Sony
00 - Woods - 24 - Yes - Yes - Yes won merc
99 - Stewart - 41 - Yes - Yes - Yes
98 - Mickelson - 27 - Yes - Yes - Yes Won Merc.

So ages varying from 24 - 41 have won this, although the 2 players who won in their 20's were outstanding players.

Previous tour winner: 8 out of 10 were.

Definetly need to have shown something in the event, 10 out of 10 had played and played well here previously, so no rookies, again that could be a pro am thing as it takes some getting used to (I know they have them on NW).

9 out of 10 are Yanks (and the 1 who isn't was about to enjoy his best ever year and become World No. 1), only 3 foreign winners in event history.

8 out of 10 had form in the events leading up to the event.

So basically looking for the obvious.

Believe Greg is just out on stroll with son--Wilson might have some good vibes from Spyglass last year with 6 birdies and no bogies--however very misleading as his ball striking @SG was poor-saved only by 23 putts (1.455/gir)

Round 2 plays (1pt)

Alejandro Canizares to beat Joe Ogilvie -115 @ Five Dimes
Backing the better player and who was much better from tee-to-green than his opponent yesterday. Around the much tougher Spyglass Hill course, that difference should be accentuated today

Kevin Sutherland to beat Pat Perez -115 @ Five Dimes
Sutherland was surprisingly poor yesterday, but he was still far better from tee-to-green than Perez who only hit 9/18 greens in regulation around the easiest course. As with the previous play, such differences should be magnified today and there is still time for Sutherland to get back into this tournament

Garrett Willis to beat Dicky Pride -110 @ Five Dimes
I don't think is still time for Pride to get back into this tournament - he is 2nd-last - and doesn't have a good record of 'bouncing back' when quite so far off the cut mark

Padraig Harrington to beat Mike Weir -107 @ Pinnacle
There is no bigger hypochondriac in professional golf was Pod ... he seems to revel in adversity. He was well enough to hit 14/18 very small greens around Pebble Beach yesterday and his game appears in far better shape than Weir's

James Driscoll to beat Brett Rumford +100 @ Five Dimes
Rumford has been at least 10 shots off the pace after 18 holes twice this year and has shot 73-75 in the 2nd round. He's a player who will miss a lot of cuts and I can't see a bounce-back taking place today

was going to pass but thought might help those who faded Harrington this week as this should put Murphy on him. :)

Weird shit can happen in these rd by rd--Yesterday Norman shoots his 1st subpar rd since moby dick was a minnow--Last week get Ohern ranked 167th in final rd scr and hadn't broke par on pga but once in final rd in 2years--he continues his ave but Leonard comes in with 70 67 66 77
--so maybe 3rd times a charm :)

3rd round plays (1pt):

Kyle Thompson to beat John Daly -133 @ Five Dimes
Opposing Daly who is hardly renowned for trying his best when out of contention. For parallels with this situation, in three of the last five times that he has been at least 15 shots off the lead after 36 holes, he has shot 80 or higher in the 3rd round

Alex Cejka to beat Kent Jones +110 @ William Hill
Jones has missed the cut in all three starts this year and in each of the last two years here, so I can only see him struggling again after being the sole leader after 18 holes

Brian Davis to beat Frank Lickliter +103 @ Five Dimes
His fifth straight week of Tour golf which also includes a flight from Hawaii to Florida to be with his new-born twins, Lickliter must surely be running out of gas by now. And after failing to make the cut in this event of any of the last four years, maybe he should have taken a break this week. He should at least have Sunday to rest

Harrington 40 to 1- Past two rounds had an eight and a seven on two par 5's. With pars there he'd be tied for the lead. He's 5 back but theres a lot of inexperience up there besides singh. I still don't trust singh this season and Pebble has turned out some high scores this week. Winner could easily be -9 or -10...plus final round comebacks are possible here
