Redsfann- about Belize. I've been there as I'm sure you have mulitple times. What I didn't like about it was the abject poverty there. It was very depressing to drive out of the main area.

I don't know anything about taxes or customs or anything like that. But before buying or moving to Belize. Take a good look at Aruba. It is one of the mellowest places I've ever been. People are great. Crime is low. Prices aren't through the roof. Even has casinos and some clubs but almost the whole place shuts down on Sunday - family day. Just an opinion.

Yes, Ferdville, Belize City and the country as a whole are very poor. The part of Belize I am talking about is the area around San Ignacio in the state of Cayo--over near the border with Guatemala. Its a whole different world over there compared to Belize City and its surroundings. San Ignacio has a large American ex-pat community and many Mennonites have settled in the area as well. And with Belize being tiny, you are only an hour and a half drive from Belize City--but with Belmopan near by, which is the capitol, you'd really never have to travel to Belize City unless you were going to the Cayes or needed to fly out somewhere.
Never been to Aruba; my brother has, though, and he raves about it. I'll tell him to look into real estate there, too.

Dunclock-

In 20 years Dogs will be 79--maybe by then he won't be able to swing a club or see too well...
Even with those handicaps, I'm sure he'd still take all my $$....;)

IE My experience with property rates is MUCH better deals if you get hooked up with some one locally.

When I'm in Russia and Ukraine, we always hide around the corner while our local co-workers hail the cabs. Then when they have negotiated the fare, the whitey Americans jump in! :00hour

The fare is about 25% for locals as opposed to foreigners.

Ain't it the truth.
I am very leary of any on line deals for foreign places. The Hotel I spoke of in China is not thest in nanning but would be in top 5 (population over a million) online best rate for regular room was bout $80 --sister inlaw got me best room (end suite on top floor) for $45

I get same taxi driver every time I go-he stays parked at hotel until I need him--takes me anywhere for $10 a day--used to be $8 when I 1st started going. If you try and tip him with money it is like insult--but will take non monetary gift and end of stay. always take him and family to nice restaurant--you can go wrong with buying meal in China--however takes them 2 hours minimum to eat which drives me beserk.

Dunclock--father time gets us all--I'm down in C catagory with everyone else :)
