I made the statement about Arky's D-Line being physical, and I beleive they are. Auburn's O-Line has some pretty distinguished talent among those boys but they hadn't played like it. Arkansas was the best test for them and they came out and played. Before that game I began to think that Ronnie Brown and Carnell Williams made our O-Line look better than they actually were.

Auburn is a team that had to find itself this year. We lost 4 guys in the first round of the draft, 3 of them being our entire backfield and the other being the best cornback in the nation. Imagine USC losing White, Bush and Leinart along with Darnell Bing...I'm sure they would have to work a few kinks out themselves.

Bottom line is that this is not the Auburn team that lost to GT at the beginning of the season. They're not gonna roll over and let anyone take the SEC crown from them without a fight.

Auburn +6.5

I agree with you that AU is a much better team than the team that lost to GT earlier, but then you make the point: What if USC lost Leinart etc. they would be a much worse team. Exactly, you did lose your 4 best players (thus wouldn't that make you a much worse off team?) I am honestly not bashing Auburn, I am just making the point that you acknowledge the fact that Auburn is not the team that they were last year. And yes, they will put up a fight (I don't know any team in the SEC that won't week in and week out.) Good Luck AU999!

i think the only thing that beats LSU is LSU themselves. They have the better team, the better athletes, the better speed. But i give the edge to Tuberville over Miles. This is not a homer pick, i like LSU but dont love LSU, i just think they got the better team.

Remember LSU lost by one point to Auburn last year at Auburn. This is not the same Auburn team from last year.

we may not have to imagine sc losing leinart-bush-white-bing as they all may be gone to the nfl next year......that said i wouldnt expect much of a drop off from sc....they are so loaded it's sick.

LSU (minus second half of UT game) has played pretty well thus far at home (last week being their first "normal" home game due to Katrina.)

LSU turned the ball over 5 times against Florida didn't they? Granted LSU still won which scares me, but that's not exactly a strong showing. More inept offense on Florida's part if you ask me.

Everyone has been on LSU from the jump. More talent, more speed, more depth...

I have switched my signature back to what it was about 3 months ago before the season started when everyone had LSU penciled in to win the west.

I'm not disagreeing with you at all when you say LSU will not win the West, I of course feel that Bama is the best team in the West, bar none. And I also agree with you whole heartedly that LSU has been overrated all season long, just as I think Fla., Tenn., and Notre Dame (different story) are. I just feel that AU doesn't have near the team that they did a year ago (I know it doesn't take a genius to figure that out), but I still feel that LSU has a little more talent here and AU has to go to their house. Anyway, GL and may the better team win!

Didn't Tennessee come in day of the game?

Said it in January and will keep saying it. Les Miles is a fraud. There may have never been a worse hire by a major contending program. Does that mean they lose this week - no. But if it is a big game going against him has beena pretty safe bet.2 home games already vs solid SEC teams - 0-2 ATS

I agree with you on JaMarcus Russell very prone to bone head plays.I don`t care for him at all.Just last saturday against the Gators he was in the grasp being taken down and he threw the ball up for grabs instead of taking the sack.I see some people saying that LSU has the better team speed,i don`t know about that Auburn can fly on both sides of the ball also. If Auburn can establish a running game with Irons i feel they will be able to pass on this LSU team all night.I love Auburn getting 6.5 and a SU win is not out of the question in my mind either.

Good Luck

JaMarcus Russell - Man-child

JaMarcus Russell - Man-child

CHARLES GOLDBERG
News staff writer
AUBURN -- David Gibbs looks at LSU quarterback JaMarcus Russell and shakes his head.

"He's 6-foot-10, 300 pounds and can throw the ball 500 yards," Auburn's defensive coordinator marvels. "He's a freak of nature."

Russell officially measures at 6-foot-6, 252 pounds, but, remarkably, that still makes him bigger than nine of Auburn's defensive starters. He outweighs all three linebackers by at least 36 pounds, both defensive ends by up to 14 pounds and all four members of the secondary by at least 32 pounds.

Auburn's defense, built around speed and athleticism, has the task of containing LSU's mammoth offense in Saturday's 6:45 p.m. game in Baton Rouge. LSU goes about 300 pounds a man across the offensive line. Auburn's defense can't measure up in size. But the Tigers can in results because they are so quick. Auburn is ranked third nationally in scoring defense and sixth in total defense. The Tigers led the nation in scoring defense last year.

Saturday's game is a heavyweight match in the SEC West: No.7 LSU is 4-1 overall and 3-1 in the league. No.16 Auburn is 5-1 overall and 3-0 in the SEC.

... ...

Auburn defensive end Quentin Groves ran up against that in the Mississippi-Alabama All-Star Game a few years ago. Russell made a lasting impression

"He's a huge guy, but he's an exceptionally mobile guy," said Groves. "He's elusive."

Gibbs favorably compares Russell to Daunte Culpepper of the NFL's Minnesota Vikings. Like Culpepper, Russell is a big target. But Groves said he isn't sure what will happen if he finds him set up in the pocket.

"It does weigh on your mind: `If I get to him, can I get him down?'"

Russell isn't invincible. He has minus-96 yards rushing, mainly due to being sacked. But he didn't come to LSU for rushing stats. He came to pass. He's hit 86 of 135 passes for 1,117 yards and seven touchdowns. He's already thrown for more yards in five games this season than in four starts and 11 games last year.

Auburn recruited Russell out of Williamson High School in Mobile. He weighed a mere 225 then. Today, he weighs exactly 50 pounds more than Auburn quarterback Brandon Cox.

"You can see he's grown. You can see his confidence," says Auburn coach Tommy Tuberville.

LSU's big offensive line includes left tackle Andrew Whitworth, who checks in at 6-7, 322, and he's in charge of protecting Russell blindside.

"If he's not a first-round draft pick, I've never seen one," Gibbs said of Whitworth. "He's a man-child. He dominates so many people they call holding on him every now and then because they feel sorry for the guy he's killing. He's something special."

Gibbs likes the rest of the offense, too.

"I see NFL wide receivers, an NFL running back, an NFL quarterback," he said. "We have our work cut out."

Gibbs get's and A+ with "Coachspeak." But I think his biggest concern is Auburn's corners vs LSU's receivers. I expect Auburn to bring the blitz quite often to try and make Russell make mistakes. I also believe LSU will more than likely blitz Cox very often as well. Cox was Mr. Football in Alabama in 2002, While Russell was Mr. Football 2003 in Alabama. What does that mean...probably nothing.

Carnell Williams was Mr. Football his senior year too.......what does that mean? Auburn and LSU have a way of getting talented athletes in their programs, that is it!

I think that the majority of people that are looking at this and making LSU to be the better team and stating that Auburn is not the team they were last year............( crickets chirping )........Obviously have not listened to Tubby, They are better:D All Joking aside LSU is not the powerhouse that they were expected to be hands down they were picked to be the best the SEC has to offer and they are not! End of Story. BUT Neither is Auburn, they are green at too many positions, good athletes but still green. This matchup comes down to 2 SEC teams that need a W to get on to ATL. Too close of a game in my opinion to be layin 6.5 points.

True Auburn is not the same team from last year, they only won this game by 1 point..........this team will win by more than that! :D
