Day 7 Plays

Parlay - Henin and Safina 2.5u: When the pressure is off (that is when it's not a Slam final or semi for instance), Safina can play some superb tennis.
Kirilenko's recent losses to the likes of Schiavone and Peer (good players that they are) don't inspire enormous confidence in a match-up against a very different player who happens to be one of the biggest hitters on the Tour.

Henin, tired following a grueling first week and nursing a slight leg injury, catches a real break facing her fellow Belgian. Wickmayer is even more damaged.Wickmayer needed treatment to her back in a three-sets win against plucky Italian Sara Errani on Friday and subsequently pulled out of a doubles match Saturday. Her health woes probably supersede an 11-match winning streak, including qualifying.

"Let's hope I can fix it up, yeah, by next match," said Wickmayer

Isner +553 OVER Murray 1u: Isner is hot and Melbourne has a knack for producing an underdog who makes it deep into the second week, i.e. a Baghdatis, Verdasco, Tsonga guy. Isner had a marvelous run at the US Open , before bowing out in a fifth-set tiebreak to eventual champ JDP. Murray on the other hand, well...

Well I bet on Murray in my parlay as I think Isner has finally run into a guy with some talent in this tourney. I hate playing Murray as I am no fan of his but I think he wins here.
Never shocks me when Murray loses though as we all no it is just a matter of time. :142smilie

Good luck.

If I were playing this one straight then I would probably try Isner at those odds as well.
I would never trust Murray at -700 in a stand alone.

Is Cilic the deep-run dog? Have always thought the early season tourney (in many sports) springs the upset.

Chucky, it is hard to say. Cilic surprised a lot of people at the Open last year by making a deep run and he has always been included in "Young Up and Comers" discussion. He put alot of people on notice with his dismantling of Murray last year and has turned in more consistent results against some of the top players, but let's not overrate this most recent victory of JDP. Delpo played an awful match and still went five. Cilic was facing an opponent wildly out of form, physically wrecked, and still finding ways to keep him in the match. The chokes at the end of the 3rd set, broken to love at the end of the 4th..... and almost guaranteed horrendous errors on every break point oppotunity.

To be fair though, Cilic is undefeated in 2010, something only Roddick can claim as well. Interstingly enough, these two men meet in the next round. Should be a good match. I would tip Roddick slightly, though.

Rafa Nadal +100 2u

A lefty v. righty match-up is always interesting to me and both guys are quick around the court. My question is how aggressive will Murray be. He likes to sit back a lot and find openings but that is not a good tactic against Rafa especially with this slow playing court. The court is similar to the one in Indian Wells where Rafa smashed Murray last year 1&2 in May. Nadal's level overall has probably been a bit higher, and the night conditions on Rod Laver tilt things slightly in his favor in my opinion. Murray needs a lot of favors from his first serve, otherwise Nadal is likely to grind him down to the ground and turn it into a battle of survival. Both physically and mentally, the Spaniard most likely comes out on top but it should go to at least four long, rugged sets but you have to favor the guy who relishes these sort of situations and who has just a little more variety

Andy Roddick -150 1.5u

It is hard to find a part of the game where Roddick is superior (serve aside) yet I believe that what tennis often shows us is that the best players don't always win. Roddick has proved that for the past 4 years or so.

Quarterfinals of Grand Slams bring new emotions and a whole new pressure. I know Cilic went deep in the US open but I have a feeling Roddick might fight a bit harder than Cilic is prepared for.

Cilic is top class but Roddick knows how to win these matches, he showed that vs Gonzo. If there was a Roddick backer that wasn't hugely concerned by Gonzo's stunning play I'd like to meet him. But Roddick will work harder for your money than most others and that means a lot to me especially when the other guy is a powerful serving, in form big Croat and Cilic has shown in the past he can implode...

Whoever you back there are arguments for both matches...

Good Luck...

Parlay the two 2u to win 4.6u

Updated Futures: (As of Quarterfinals)

Nadal +435 Pending
Davydenko +1100 Pending
Tsonga +6000 Pending
Roddick +2800 Pending

Clijsters +410 Out
Serena +340 Pending

I want to add Venus at +600. She is flying under the radar because of her lack of success in Melbourne throughout her career. She has never won here and only made the finals once before, in 2003, losing to Serena.

Henin has played well, but does not appear ready to win a Grand Slam quite yet. What Clijsters did at NYC last August is not normal. Winning a Grand Slam after being out of the sport for an extended period just doesn't happen. In fact Henin may be ripe for the picking tonight against Petrova, who is certainly confident heading into tonight's matchup.

For Venus, there is a matter of a potential semifinal match with Serena looming. If this match comes to be, the winner should be raising the trophy on Saturday night.

murray is hungrier and ever to win a grand slam and currently in a much better form than nadal. as well, i consider murray a much better hardcourter. Sure, Nadal is one of the best and he is solid on every surface against an average player, but in this match murray definitely has an edge.

As for the cilic vs a.rod...anything can happen, with a slight advantage going to roddick. these are two players that heavily rely on their serving, so whoever dominates that department will win this match...i wouldnt touch this match
