I always loved the '54 set. The thickness of the cards was incredible and the artwork seemed to jump off of the card.

Also, love the '71 set because of the black borders. It's os difficult to find those in MINT because of the black borders chip so easily. I guess that's why I really appreciate finding the rare ones with super clean borders and corners. I will still buy really clean '71's when I rarely run across them.

Here ya go, bud. :toast:

1993 Finest Refractors

1993 Finest Refractors

Always was a collector myself growing up, but as an adult in the late 90's, started collecting the first ever set of Refractor inserts.... it was called Topps Finest, debuted in 1993 for baseball, and each card had a refractor version of itself - 199 cards in the set, and the parallel refractor set was also 199 cards. Each of the refractors had reportedly 241 made - making the cards truly limited. And they were not marked in any way "refractor", so you could only tell them by looking closely at the card to see the refraction of light....I'm sure some were thrown away as some folks had a hard time telling the refractors from the base cards.

Long story short - have had the full set for quite some time now, with many duplicates. All the cards have been graded by PSA. Complete set of 9 - Mint, with 25 of them being 10 - Gem Mint. Really tough to improve the set these days, as if/when PSA 10 refractors show up on Ebay, they are crazy expensive....

Even so, my set is likely worth $30K+.... but it was such fun in building it myself, I don't see selling it - unless something unforseen happens......

Very cool set though.....

That's a cool card, Sports, even for a reprint. That 1933 Goudey's set was significant because it was the beginning of the "bubble gum era" for baseball cards. Up until then, cards were included with tobacco products. Since a lot of kids were getting into collecting the cards, the tobacco companies re-thought the marketing of it all.
