So I was trying to compile some of the best songs to listen to in the car, possibly on a long road trip. Here is what I thought of:

Hotel California - Eagles
Summer Breeze - Isley Bros.
Jessica - Allman Bros.
My Wave - Soundgarden
All Along the Watchtower - Jimi Hendrix
Got to get you into my life - Earth, Wind, and Fire
Wherever I may Roam - Metallica
One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer - George Thorogood

How's that so far? Please add to this list so I can make an entire CD.

We were having this discussion at the bar the other night. I feel that any good road CD must have Van Morrison on there. I would take out Metallica.

For some newer (not new) music to add, I think Oasis is great road music.

U2 also has some great fit for the road songs. Sting (or The Police) is a must-have as well. Just because he is probably the coolest cat on the planet.

I am holding back from suggesting specific songs because that is what makes it YOUR road CD.

I would say Some Dead always gets me into a fit of Road Glaze!

That's Blues word for the day! Road Glaze! That felling of floating down the Road watching for every cop out there because your holding on to a big ole spliff and just Rocking the upholstery loose in the old SUV!

"Going Down the Road Feeling Bad.........Going down the Road Feeling Bad.....Oh Yeah! "
(just imagine me singing this all the way from Mobile to Austin and you'll need a drink!)

Man I love Riding tunes!

Monk told me the other day he listens to Culture Club mainly to feel free from Doubt about himself as he rides down the Road!
KARMA KARMA KARMA KARMA CHAMELION! MONK comes and GO....WOOOHHHOOOOOOOEEEEESSSS

OK someone mentioned dropping Metallica (wherever i may roam). I went ahead and did that considering that it might cause some road rage. :)

I've added Radar Love after hearing it (it had road trip all over it), Sultans of Swing by Dire Straits, Train Train by Blackfoot, Santeria by Sublime, and LA Woman by The Doors.

Thanks for everyone's input and keep 'em coming!
