i don't know, kosar. like i said, i might have read it wrong but....

i am certain that nolan doesn't drive DRUNK "EVERY night".

i'll take a guess and say he might have 2 or 3 drinks after playing poker every night and drives home "under the legal limit". nothing wrong with that, IMO, and the opinion of the lawmakers either.

you're ALLOWED to drink and drive as long as you don't drink TOO much.

hey, i've been guilty plenty of times but am definitely more aware and responsible about it now than i was, say.....15-20 years ago.

i could be wrong though.....been wrong a lot of times about a lot of things.

Ok Jack, no problem. If you actually believe that when he speaks of , 'insane muliti-million dollar anti-drinking and driving campaigns', he is talking about those 'insane' ads about people who drive while under the limit, then point taken.

I'm sure that he was exaggerating when he said that he drives drunk every night, but he sure revels in what he considers his God given right to do so.

It is simply ridiculous to take the term ' drinking and driving' to mean anything other than 'driving while drunk'.

If somebody wants to make it literal, then it's just as accurate to say that drinking and driving is drinking Pepsi and driving.

We can twist this in any direction we want, but the intent is clear. No big deal, like I said, we all have done it. I've just never seen anybody so obnoxiously defend the practice.

kosar,

we all know nolan is very outspoken and opinionated. he thinks for himself. i 'think' *I* read him right and others' didn't, but i'm not here to defend him, i'll just let him respond if he chooses to. he 'might' have used the wrong words that confused most readers. who knows?

worm44,

don't worry about it because i think your reflexes might have been better in your condition, if you're like me.

fwiw...

about 17 years ago, i had this 'donkey kong' machine in my house. i'm not really into video games but got addicted to that thing.

anyway, i would come home from work with my 12-pack and sit down to play. i ALWAYS did better after having 3-5 beers than i did if i had none or if i had more.

i know my reflexes are better in the 3-5 beer range than any other time. i KNOW IT! :D maybe because i'm more relaxed or something. not tense? who knows?

just thought i'd throw that in there.

for a 220 +/- pound guy, that 3-5 beers is probably just below and just over the 'legal limit'. somewhere in that range, don't you think?

i think i saw a show on tv once about a test they did for people that had been drinking and tested them on their abilities to drive under certain conditions. i think i remember that they found that most people that had a 'few' performed better than the ones that didn't drink anything at all. it mighta been a dream though :D

night fellas.

First to Scott:

Great photo, had me laughing out loud. I never thought I'd get mentioned in the same line with Beantownjim.

To others:

Of course, much of what I was saying was in jest -- but I also was staing that it's okay to DRINK and DRIVE so long as you do not drive drunk. I enjoyed the initial joke and just added what I thought was an appropriate political statement about the ridiculousness of the DO NOT DRINK AND DRIVE fantatics, when the fact is, about 98 percent of everyoine who drinks a alcholic beverage will in fact drive an automobile that same night. So, why to we have this SO NOT DRINK AND DRIVE slogan? My remarks were a takeoff of the Kinnison routine, which obviously fell flat here. Too bad. Next topic.

Regarding some critical comments, I've come to expect the bullsh*t. I would like to point out that I no lnoger ride the bicycle every day and have not done so in about 8-9 months. Sadly, I have come to realize the safety risks of riding late at night outweigh the so-called benefits.

One other point: I also take issue with some states lowering the blood-alcohol limit (to .8 of 1 percent in some cases). This is a political sham put on by the trial lawyers to make millions and for the states which are held hostage to have to adhere to strict Federal mandates to receive highway funding. Now, if you drink two Heinekens and blow into a breath test, you might come up as legally drunk. That's the kind of idioocy I'm against, but of course it's poltiicallly incorrect to take on an issue like this.

Oh, and one more thing.

I forgot to address the comment I made about drinking and driving "every night."

That's pretty much true for the most part.

Although I drink and drive just about every day, I honestly can't remember the last time I was drunk. Of course, if you read that last sentence, some very creative minds here might misunderstand that comment to mean, I was SOOOOOOOOOOO DRUNK, that I can't even remember the occasion.

After a couple of bets on Da Raida's tonight, I sure as sh*t wish I could forget that experience. Might even drive a man to take a few drinks.

Helen - Hilarous story/joke.... somehow the origanal point of this thread kinda fell through the cracks. .... cracks in the sidewalk, cracks of some of these heads... cracks... whoops..... I digress

Folks I think you took Nollans comments to the inth degree, I respect everyone's opinion, just to hate to see a comical thread go sooo astray.

I personally am against DRUNK DRIVING and see the difference in having a couple of acoholoic beverages over a significant span of time and driving. I think THAT was the second direction of this thread and the third direction well that went right in the crapper didn't it. Oh well if ya really need to get all Riled up (not sure if riled is the correct spelling hell I'm not sure if its a real word outside of the south) but I guess DRUNK driving is a better subject than most.

If you guys have taken enough shots at Nollan how about lets just laugh at that F@ckin hilarous joke and move on.

Just my two cents if they are worth even that much.

I thought the joke and some comments were in poor taste. I've not known many alcoholics who ever admitted they got drunk. They just have 2 or 3 beers. I'm the last person in the world to be PC, but maybe I am about drinking especially when driving is involved.

You know what...I got a dui coming home from the Doctors office and on my way to work for Chrissakes. Due to impending surgery I was given a pain shot and had a reaction to it , also in my possesion was the prescription pain pill medications I had just filled. I was arrested and relieved of my savings. Before you say I had bad lawyer and all that rest assured, I did not. The law is designed to bilk as much money out of the driving public as possible. If the legalese in this country were truly worried about the safety of the driving public, there would be much more stringent laws imposed on those that drive poorly or recklessly. I am not saying I advocate drunk driving, and I feel sorry if you have lost a loved one to a drunk driver. But I was imprisoned for 22 hours awaiting a simple release on cash bond. The hepatitis laden junkie that was in the cell next to mine, that was picked up for theft...was released by 9 a.m. on his own recognizance.

It seems to me that there a quite a few people that have failed to realize that you rarely see lawyers, airline pilots, business execs, etc...doing community service. They can afford to pay their way out of it. I don't care what you say or how irresponsible some of you will think Nolan's comments were, they are, however very close to the truth. MADD is not a profit free organization. Cities won't improve streets to accomodate heavier traffic, but they readily increase fine amounts, and lower tolerances to a ridculously low level. Once again, I am not saying I advocate DRUNK DRIVING, just that the hypocritical nature of the handling of the offense is wrong. What everyone's "concerns" has accomplished is nohting more than forcing "cops" to spend increasingly more amount of time booking these "politcally incorrect" offenders rather than look for missing persons, crack houses, murderers. You know why? Because that is what the public is screaming about.......the numbers go up because the limit gets lowered and the counties make a killing. Cops checks are signed by the public and the quickest buck is an easy DUI conviction. If you believe anything else you are being naive.
