Here are my answers:

Question #1:

2012
Wild Wild West
Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace

Question #2:

The Spanish Prisoner
Suicide Kings
El Mariachi

That's a good list. Spanish Prisoner was a very underrated movie. I'd say if you asked like 99% of moviegoers out there about it they would have no idea who is even in it. I'm not a big fan of Steve Martin mid 90's and on but he was really good in it.

Also another solid movie that only made 30K in box office but is far from under the radar on dvd is BOONDOCK SAINTS.

Usual Suspects

That is a excellent call for a movie that started under the radar and all the buzz turned it from a movie in limited release to a $23M box office of a $6M movie.
Spacey has done a few movies that have done under $20M that have been strong.
I liked all of these:
The Ref $11M
Life of David Gale $19M
Consenting Adults $21M
And of course Glengarry Glen Ross $10M

Hard to top this one, only movie I ever walked out of:

#1 Out of Africa

Won 7 Academy Awards including best picture. Made the top 5 that year, 1986.

If I had to pick 3 movies in the all time biggest grossing TOP 50 that I would say are head scratchers as to how they got there then I go with the following:
#7 Pirates of Caribbean 3 which did $423M --It is an insult to Black Pearl that this one did $120M more.
#9 Transformers 2 which did $402M. Good special effects with a terrible story line.
#40 Meet The Fockers $280M. WOW this one was awful compared to the first one. REALLY AWFUL.

Here is the list of all time gross:

I would throw Phantom Menace in the mix but the hype and wait for that flick carried it to its box office. I guess you could say the same for the other 3 I picked so maybe Menace should be on my list.

So I'm guessing you won't be going to see " Little Fockers" when it comes out shortly? No joking here. I won't be going because i'm still not over Ben Stiller getting oversaturated in comedies in like a 5 year span. He is on my pass list even though I loved Zoolander, lol.

I do think they should convert for inflation any movie pre I don't know 1980 to account for the ones in this decade. I mean Jaws doing 260 million in 75' is pretty sick.

If they did this Gone With The Wind would far surpass Titantic so they won't touch that but those movies deserve more credit then a sequel to a Matrix, Transformer, Pirate, or Lord, right?

Unforgiven won "best picture" so I guess you could say it was successful. But that movie was terrible, just terrible. I laughed at some parts because it was so bad. And yep it won "Best Picture"

:wtf:

Also good call with "American History X", top 20 movies of all time, great great movie.

How about "Murder in the First"? Kevin Bacon was unreal in that movie, I think I was the only person that saw that movie. Bacon should have won an academy award for his performance in that movie. Also Gary Oldman was great in that movie as well.

cool thread. Fun looking at that site. Lots of movies I thought of didn't qualify. I also didn't repost (I think). 3 of mine are foreign language films. I don't mind to read the dialogue.

1) Pulp Fiction, Pirate's of the Caribbean III, Transformers II, Shrek III, How the Grinch Stole CHristmas, Jurassic Park II, Jurassic Park III, Ghostbusters II, Get Smart, Dumb and Dumber.

2)Gallipoli (Mel Gibson), Ghosts of Cite Soleil, Madison (less than 1 million), Highlander, Suspect Zero, Clerks, City of God, Mongol (terrific cinematography, great action).

Those are all good flicks that I have seen of them. Never saw Madison but I saw the rest. Mongol was well done. I saw it after going to see the huge exhibit in town on Genghis Khan. Suspect Zero was odd but good.

Also it is rare to find someone who can enjoy both Gallipoli and Clerks at the same time.:142smilie

Another good low budget sleeper is The Bad Lieutenant with Harvey Keitel.
It is a little over the top and racist at times but the scene with Keitel listening to the Dodgers/Mets game on the radio with a ton of cash riding on it was a classic scene.
He is not a big fan of Kal Daniels. :142smilie
