Senor Capper--- Got any tips on upgrading rooms or getting unadvertised rates...... What did you do at The Mirage? If you don't mind me asking.

For your first time in Vegas, I would not recommend staying downtown.

Yes, you will pay less for your room and the Nugget is a very nice place, nothing wrong there. But downtown definately does not have the glitz of the strip and for your first trip, I think you'll be wanting to hang on the strip.

A cab from downtown to the strip will run you about $16 each way and that's if you are cabbing to the Mirage or something. If you ever were to go to the Mandalay Bay, Luxor, etc. it would run you over $20.

As far as recommendations on the strip, it all depends how much you want to pay. Barbary Coast is center strip and while it may not be the plushest place around, it is still pretty nice and the rooms are not as expensive as others right near it. But the thing that sells it is the location, you are center strip, near everything.

If you want to go all out for luxury, I am really starting to like the Mandalay Bay. Its a little far from everything else but it has everything you could possibly want in a hotel/casino, including hot chicks abound. The pool might be the best in Vegas and the girls that hang out there are unreal.

For strip joints, I recommend Olympic Gardens and the Spearmint Rhino, both are top notch.

Last time I went I booked my hotel room through Expedia. I went middle of the week during the less busy time and one thing I noticed that the prices were dropping as it got closer to my trip.

Again it wasn't a busy weekend that I went but the prices did continue to drop two weeks and even a week before I left. If you are going during a slow period, you may want to consider this.

Of the hotels you named, I would recommend the Mirage.

Yo Yo-- I agree with you about going to the strip for 1st timers. I have been to Vegas 6 times, though the last time was in '97. I have been quoted the Mirage for $255 for 3 nts for 2 people including tax and $225 for Bally's. I am really leaning towards the Mirage. It's called there Summer-In-Style special. I called three times before I got this rate.

Wolf, I don' t think you are going to find the Mirage any cheaper than that no matter what time of week it is. I'd jump on that, it probably won't come down any less.

Yo Yo, that was my thinking but you never know what other little tricks you can learn from experienced people who travel to Vegas often. I'm just curious to see how they comp. I am a $25 blackjack player and not sure how they comp being that it's a larger casino. Have you heard anything about a strip club opening up called Jaguars?

I know Cheetahs but haven't heard of Jaguars. I am pretty much resigned to either Olympic Garden or the Spearmint Rhino though, I know I am going to get quality there and have never been disappointed at either place.

As far as comps, believe it or not, playing $25 blackjack sometimes is not enough. They will rate you if you are playing $25 a hand but you won't get much I'm afraid. Either you have to play for marathon runs or you need to play $50 to $100 consistently per hand to get comps at the bigger casinos in Vegas. Down at the Stardust, $25 will definately get you something but at the Mirage, Mandalay, Bellagio, etc. they won't pay you that much attention.

A found a good website last time I went that does a pretty good job of assessing all the hotels in Vegas. Go to www.cheapovegas.com, it pretty much lists every hotel in Vegas and what this guy thinks are the plus and minuses.

First of all, why would anyone "EVER" say "uhhh Cricket sent me?"

Senor Capper, you worked at Mirage for 8 years? Did you train the white Tigers?

A big thanks to Senor Capper and the rest of the guys for your input. Final total for air and 3 nights at the Mirage from Cincinnati is $275. I am looking forward to this trip and many more return trips to Vegas. :thumb: :toast:

Wolftaz, enjoy your stay in Vegas. Be sure and check out the Pirate ships battle at Treasure Island right next door, probably the best free show on the Strip.

I have been to Vegas quite a few times. Last time was '97 and that has been way too long. Going to try and make it at least 2 times a year starting with this trip.

Did ya know that much like native Chicagoans, White Tigers take 20 years to potty train ?
How old are you again ?

Oh and Wolftaz

Oh and Wolftaz

when you do check out the Pirate Show be sure to see it once from the Strip and another from the "Battle Bar" but make sure you get to the bar early enough to get a killer seat.
Order your favorite drink in a souvenir Skull Mug.
After I left the Mirage after 8 years I worked for our sister property "Treasure Island" nice place (insert smartass crack here)
There is a elevated tram connecting the 2 properties.
Have the best of times.

~~~Lanny
PS Excellent price on air & hotel.
Senor.... My wife got one of the skull mugs last time we were there..... She still mixes up a drink and dreams of Vegas, although after we went to Hawaii she dreams more of moving to Maui. Go figure. Have you ever been to one of Madjack's SB parties? I think SB Week would be a trip!
Moi ?
Moi ?
Attend a MadJacks Superbowl Extravaganza ?
Damn Skippy!! Wouldn't miss it for the world.
(even if all who attended were Raider fans)
:nono:
Matter of fact I've attended both 1 & 2.
Maui?
We've been there many of times. Since the wife works for a (not-so-major) airline we fly basically free. My fav would have to be Jamaica mon.
Hoping to go to Madjack's next SB Party. Even if it's all Raider fans.
We've talked about going to Jamaica. Just love the culture.
