I didn't watch it but am surprised that another network didn't pick it up.I thought it was a great show & thought provoking.Come to think of it,that is probably why no one picked it up.We are in the age of reality TV.Bring on the Osbourne's.

yes........I loved that show........Bill Maher kicks ass!!

as for the last show..........talked about how "real people" came on the show, how he made friends with people he totally disagreed with, how he wasn't going to change his views, how much fun he had, said he always stuck to the basic premise which was politically incorrectness! And that the reson he was cancelled wasn't because of the ratings (which is true) it's because ABC couldn't stand the heat!

The only "celebrity"name I remember was Tim Robbins. The others were a comedian, an author of a book about how corporations are "evil" and some chick. I can't remember for the life of me their names. It was late and I just came off of a 12 hour shift at work. Anyway, the subject was strayed away from and they talked about the show and why it was being canceled. Bill thanked two of his friends Jay Leno for never treating him different even though they were competitors and Thomas "Something or Other" (a cancer patient friend in California who was jailed for using pot for medicinal purposes). They all talked about how terrible it was that a show/ the only show, that forms their own opinions about topics and the government should've never been canceled. I'll miss the show alot. It was very entertaining and alot of things said actually made you think and stray away from the norm. Maybe Bill will do another standup series to follow his "Be More Cynical" one.

His show was good on Com Central, after it went to network the host was just a little to left for me. On Com Central he was middle of the road, I guess he was playing to his bosses on the network TV.

I think people should judge the show, not Bill Maher. Politically Incorrect went out of the way to include all views. If you didn't like the show because of the host, you really missed the point of the show. The idea (discussion, conversation; much as we are having here), of having a political open forum, with panel members ranging from Jerry Fallwell to Larry Flint, should be commended....we don't have enough of that.

Maher is a little left, but he criticizes liberal notions with the same agressive style. Conservatives who are frequent guests on the show voiced their displeasure over the cancellation louder than anyone.

Anyway, I thought it dealt with political and daily issues in a very straightforward and articulate manner; I think people should be pissed it was taken off the air, because it was a vehicle for real voices, and it did not cater to corporate agendas (which was the major attributor to the show's demise)..

Liberals, liberals, liberals. WATCH OUT, they maybe hiding under your bed. As for Mr Maher, he was a libertarian. Agree or disagree with him he had the damn courage to say what he said and got cancelled because of it. Free speech in this country is not as free as you think. Fools think all news is "liberal". News is big business, and big business is NEVER truly liberal. :nono:

The big bruhaha he got into, and which was really the final straw, was his post 9/11 comment (and I'm paraphrasing) "Call it what you will, but sitting in a cockpit and crashing a jet into a building isn't cowardly. Dropping missles onto a city from 1000 miles away. That's cowardly."

That's a very honest statement and it's also the kind of thing that helps get you kicked off TV. It's represents a certain OBJECTIVITY towards American activities. It's exactly that kind of objectivity that news should have, yet its the kind of thing that makes sponsors run to the hills and hence, silences that kind of criticism.

The removal of this show is a real tidy demonstration of who really influences the media.

Hate to see it go, and I thought ABC's decision was quite cowardly. However, I really didn't expect too much else from a bunch of Walt Disney Execs. Bill's main purpose on the show I believe was to play devil's advocate. Through the years, I've seen him condemn the "left" as well as the "right". I guess you could probably say he was a "free-thinking" independent. It was also not uncommon to hear him jump on Nadar and some of his outlandish views and opinions. He was one of those people that voted for the person and not the party. I actually figured that some other non-puzzy network might pick him and his show up. Seems to me like he would fit in quite well in one of Fox's time slots. Always thought he and O'Reily would make an interesting talk show combo.

I never really understood the fuss over this statement. He certainly wasn't condoning the actions of these idiots, but simply making a statement about each person's mindset at the time of the incidents. I actually tend to agree with him, since I don't think there are too many people on this earth that would have the willingness to sacrifice their life in such a manner as these people did. You could probably make a case for an enormous amount of character flaws that these terrorists possessed, but "cowardly" wasn't one of them.

I disagreed with Maher when he first called those parasites heroes & still disagree with it.IMO the alqeda are taught to think that it is a great thing that they kill Americans for their cause & that by them dying for the cause they would become martyr's.This is similar to the japanese during WW11 & the suicide bombers. They were also brainwashed to sacrifice themselves for their beliefs.Calling these terrorists heroes is an insult to the real heroes of 9/11,such as the firemen who ran up the stairs at the WTC knowing they would be in great danger, just to save complete strangers.

I do think that too much was made of Maher's statement & ABC caved into pressure from the sponsers.Maher definately belongs on cable where he will have more freedom to express his thoughts.

I disagree Neemer strongly, when you crash a plane in a building and kill thousands of citizens you are a coward. Most of the people on the plane who carried this out were brainwashed, some did not even think they were on a sucide mission, just a hijakcking.

by your logic the sucide bombers in the middle east are courageous and brave, because they try to go in supermarkets and kill women and children. brave???? these sucide bombers do not go after military targets, for the most part women and children are their targets, my how brave.

If you feel they are brave you can send them money, never mind Saudi Arabia sends them all they need, and the US already does not say anything about it.

brave to kill citizens.

This doesn't follow. The point is you can be brave and evil. Just as you can be cowardly but good. That's all Maher was saying, but everyone missed the point.

The Hamas coward that suicide bombed the plaza time the bombing to take place during a celebratory meal therby ensuring that most of those present would be the elderly and children. The Islamic jihad, a group linked to both Arafat and Hussein, responded to the attack by the Hamas as "showing Israel that no life is safe anywhere in Israel". By bombing the crap out of people that have no regard for human life to include their own isn't cowardly, its a retaliatory act brought on by their own actions and that is it. They murdered innocent people in the name of Allah or whatever fanatical religion it is they represent. Do you understand the levity of that? They didn't attack a military sight. They didn't declare war on the U.S. Do you think the actions of the Japanese at Pearl Harbor was heroic? Or cowardly? At least they went after a military target they didn't just blow up a day care center. Are they Heroes now because they had the blind stupidity to take their own life at the direction of someone who thinks he is a prophet. That is disgusting, and Bill Maher is disgusting. Thousands of dead men women and children, not to mention countless widows and fatherless children and he applauds the "courage" of the murdering heathens and lauds the United States for being bigger and stronger. He is a gutless piece of crap that should be sent to al-qada as a gift. Tell me, did your hero take any steps to help the unfortunate, and by what order of Natural Selection does a journeyman comedian that never really achieved any measure of success, allows him to applaud the courage of a war criminal and not pay for it. I hope he rots, he sucks now sucked then and always will suck. He was drab and boring and had no credentials to pose any meaningful insight to any conversation.

no you cannot target innocent citizens and be courageous. in many conflicts there has been bloodshed and citizens have been killed. will not argue that, also ussually both sides can be wrong.

for example when an Israeli builds a new settlements do not agree with that either. sometimes these settlers take justice in their own hands and kill dozens of people palenstines that is wrong also. it does not take courage to kill dozens of defenseless people.

when you conduct murder you are not courageous. you are a coward. by your and Bill view a man going into a crowded area full of citizens and killing them with a bomb is courageous or is brave. now that person is sick, but a murderor is not courageous.

you fly a plane in a building killing thousands of unarmed people, innocent people and you call that courageous. I would call them cowards and murderers.

thanks

fatdaddycool summed up what I think of Bill. It is ironic that he praised the terrorists in that quote and he condenmed the US military. I guess he believe he could say whatever he wanted to in Saudi Arabia or in Afganistan under the Taliban.

First of all, no one said these guys were heroes (AR182 said Bill Maher said it, but he didn't). I'm sure to the AL Qaeda they were, but brave does not mean hero. You can be brave by wrestling a bear but that doesn't mean you're a hero.

I just think there's disagreement because people have different definitions of bravery and cowardice. Here's a couple from dictionary.com.

bravery: A quality of spirit that enables you to face danger of pain without showing fear.

coward: One who shows ignoble fear in the face of danger or pain.

Cowardly: Exhibiting the characteristics of a coward, particularly ignoble fear: a cowardly surrender

Murder of innocent people is evil. It's wrong. I think its the most vile thing one person can do to another. To do it to the extent it was done on 9/11 is one of the worst acts ever committed.

However, if you want to call it COWARDLY, then you need to demonstrate the people who committed it were showing fear in the face of danger or pain. That's all Maher was saying, its a lot of things, but it wasn't cowardly.

Maher never called these guys heroes.
You guys obviously didn't watch this show..

He referred to the terrorists disregard for their OWN life...
NOT their cause.

The terrorist who was sitting at the controls of the airplane was NOT AFRAID of what he was about to do....he was not afraid that he was about to die.

That's the point!!!

How psychotic, or disillusioned these individuals are is ANOTHER issue...it has nothing to do with being AFRAID of pain, death, or anything else that would constitute the very definition of being a coward..
