12 years? As far I as can remember, the US didn't go after Saddam himself until last March when it invaded Iraq. I realize I was young, but if the US really wanted him, why didn't it make sure it got him after Iraq surrendered in the Gulf War if it was such a big deal to capture him?
The Mission in the first gulf war was to liberate Kuwait not to remove Saddam. The conflict ended in 91 because Saddam agreed to disarm his weapons program but years of defiance and U.N resolutions did not work. Operation Desert Fox in 98 under the Clinton admin. was aimed at Iraqs weapons program. Russia, France and 12 other countries passed resolution 1441 and stated that if Iraq does not disarm it would face serious consequences, I think that was the 12th or 14th Resolution on Iraq in 12 years. What makes me crazy is when people say this war is based on a lie and that he had no weapons. France, Russia, China, Hans Blix and scores of other sources state that if fact he has the weapons.
Saddam himself declared a Jihad against the US in 1990. He is not the kind of person you should leave in power and I really believe the world is safer place with him locked up.
