Billionaire Mike Bloomberg is helping Florida felons pay their debts so they can vote in the presidential election. The former Democratic presidential candidate is taking action days after Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis won a court victory to keep felons who served their time from voting until they?ve also paid off fines, restitution and court fees.

Bloomberg is part of an effort that has raised more than $20 million dollars to help these felons vote in the presidential election. That?s in addition to $100 million he has pledged to help Joe Biden win Florida.

In Citizens United, the Court ruled (by a 5?4 vote) that corporations and unions could spend unlimited amounts of money to advocate for or against political candidates.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Citizens_United_(organization)Citizens United is a conservative 501(c)(4) nonprofit organization in the United States founded in 1988. In 2010 the organization won a U.S. Supreme Court case known as Citizens United v. FEC, which struck down as unconstitutional a federal law prohibiting corporations and unions from making expenditures in connection with federal elections. The organization's current president and chairman is David Bossie.[1]

Overview
Citizens United's stated mission is to restore the United States government to "citizens' control, through a combination of education, advocacy, and grass-roots organization" seeking to "reassert the traditional American values of limited government, freedom of enterprise, strong families, and national sovereignty and security."[2] Citizens United is a conservative political advocacy group organized under Section 501(c)4 of the federal tax code, meaning that donations are not tax deductible. To fulfill this mission, Citizens United produces television commercials, web advertisements, and documentary films.[3] CU films have won film festival awards, including Perfect Valor (Best Documentary at the GI Film Festival) and Ronald Reagan: Rendezvous with Destiny (Remi Award at Houston Worldfest International Festival).

David Bossie has been its president since 2000. In 2016 he took a leave of absence to be deputy campaign manager of Donald Trump's campaign for President of the United States.[4] Its offices are on Pennsylvania Avenue in the Capitol Hill area of Washington, D.C.

The decision remains highly controversial, generating much public discussion and receiving strong support and opposition from various groups. Senator Mitch McConnell commended the decision, arguing that it represented "an important step in the direction of restoring the First Amendment rights". By contrast, President Barack Obama stated that the decision "gives the special interests and their lobbyists even more power in Washington". The ruling had a major impact on campaign finance, allowing unlimited election spending by corporations and labor unions and fueling the rise of Super PACs. Later rulings by the Roberts Court, including McCutcheon v. FEC (2014), would strike down other campaign finance restrictions. Studies show that the Citizens United ruling boosted the electoral success of Republican candidates.[2][3]

Thanks to Citizens United, it's all legal. Why do Republicans get so pissed when their schemes get used against them?

This "pissed off" Independent could give a RATS ASS about the left or right....Advocate all you want, TV/Radio/Net/Telemarketers... Banners, signs, hats ect ect ect I don't care, piss away all of your money....

But to be able to pay off Felons Debts to garner votes is just WRONG....And to have the BALLS to come out and say it, what the hell is going on in this country----We are all FUCKED!!!

100 million dollars could go a long to help Social Injustice, but who care about that right....Bunch a Bull Shit all the way around on both sides....

Are you okay with Citizens United pumping unlimited cash into campaigns? It's just free speech......at least that's their argument.

"We are all FUCKED" because the Republicans wanted to buy elections using their big money donor advantage. What do you think is driving the need for an imbalance on the court? Ideology? No, it's BIG MONEY donors that want to overturn regulations that are forcing them to spend money on protecting society and the environment.

I bet if you asked Bloomberg what he thought that 100 million dollars would do for Social Injustice, I bet he'd say A LOT. Putting the people in charge that actually give a shit about human beings is what he's driving for.

"Bunch of bullshit on both sides", lol. More false equivalency.

Hey, we agree and that is happening on both sides and I don't feel it should be allowed....

1 person/organization shouldn't be able to "buy votes" and that is what he is trying to do....

My opinion, you're able to spew yours I'm spewing mine.....Great country we live in....:0008

In fairness, I'm not advocating for the insane amounts of money being funneled to or just to help candidates. It's ridiculous. I just find it funny that it was all well and good when Trump was accumulating a cash advantage over Biden in the hundreds of millions.

Honest question, do you find it so bothersome because you can put a name/face with the money? If he buried it in some BS Super-PAC, you'd never even know about it.

That is a good question---If it was buried we probably would never know....I guess I really shouldn't care because no matter how fucked up it is "I" can't personally fix it and that's my nature...:0008

Do you think this "charity" will still be available if this is tied up in court until after the elections....
