Ferdville, You are right its tough to make a living at bowling. I cannot believe Brian Kretzer went to the PBA

I can't believe he left the "Stray Cats", to become a bowler! (I guess he's an alley cat!)

You guys make me feel very average. I bowl in a mixed league, one night a week, for two reasons. One to get out of the house, and two, drink with my buddies. However, I'm starting to find out the competitive juices flow no matter what the sport, and I'm a little more interested in what my score is than I used to be. I average around 170 but will look to improve and save face as I couldn't even make the Madjacks top ten with the previous posts.
As a side note, my buddies and I bet each other on about every ball. There's so many 1$ bills flying around it looks like a strip joint.

Unicorn,

With minimal practice, and a decent ball, you can have a 200 average at most local houses.

They want guys to hit 600's and 700's, so they set the lanes up that way.......it keeps them bowling, and drinking, thus making the house cash. A 200 average is not a big deal anymore, and anyone who bowls 2-4 nights a week, ought to have an average that high.

Shit, there was a guy in Illinois last year who had a 267 average last year! (That comes out to an 800 series every night!)

Now, you need to be great to do that, but still..........

yyz you are right

yyz you are right

The ABC committes are looking the other way for houses that make it easy. Just 15 years ago when everyone was still bowling they made you earn it. Here In last two years they had 8, 800 seires. We had 3, 800 series from 1970 to then. We would have as a city 60 to 70, 700 each year. They had over 500 last 3 years. Fewer folks bowling. So Make them happy and keep at the lanes longer sell some drinks, some pizza what ever. I have not bowled because of many reasons one my back for 10 years. I did have in two legues a decent avg of 196 and 202. I took my grand kids bowling in November. I said I can't just watch lets give it a try. My back seemed ok and so did my slide knee. First game 178. I said these seem easy even for a old guy who has not bowled in a very long time. Next game 256, last game 219. I went home and told by wife those thing are set for killing. Thats to bad. Can hurt some folks real bad if they go to a tourney with tight lanes. GL to all you bowlers. Heres a tip. What I did years ago before a tuney was bowl some practice. But I would go to, two differant house at differant time of day. This will give you what you need for tourneys. GL

Funny you mention 300 and 800, I had one of each a week ago monday 238-300-266=804 and this past friday had 257-299-234=790 the shot is so wide open Ihad 10 boards at the break point. I was in Indianapolis today for a tournament and was talking to the director,he told me their city tourn. was going this weekend and yesterday in the first squad of team event there were 5-300 and 3-800 seriesWTF!!!! and high scratch team series is over 3700 which is a new city record. I ended up 10th today because of so many:thefinger :thefinger :thefinger 7 pins but on the other hand I should be happy to have doubled my money.

The sound is something difficult to digest. I saw some stats that professional bowlers make decent amount and your point of view is right that big players are good in the position where average bowler not suitable to go in the professional bowler to consider it as a profession. Bowling Ocean

I bowl on the Senior PBA 50 tour and only the top 10 guys make a decent amount of money anymore, but they all have ball deals and contracts and have pretty good income coming in outside of the tour life, every guy with a contract through a ball company makes minimum of 50k just to wear the shirt so there are some guys making a buck
