Weekend plays

Weekend plays

Sometimes it pays to get in early. Nearly all of my selections have seen the odds rise considerably.

Patrick Lopez (-145) - large I think Lopez is the better fighter here. He has been showing steady improvement against decent opposition, and think he is a contender in the making. Even his close loss to Joseito Lopez was good, and he has gotten better since. For Coleman's part, I'm not all that impressed with him. I thought he lost to Arnaoutis, who doesn't have much left in the tank at all. I'm not sure that he does anything better than Lopez. He doesn't hit that hard, and isn't terribly active in there. I do think many rounds will be competitive, especially early on, and we could see a close one on the cards. 116-112 Lopez.

Guillermo Jones (-170) - large Enigmatic Jones finally back in the ring. Of course I don't like him being on the shelf for two years, but Brudov has not fought in more than a year himself. I think Guillermo is an excellent fighter. He is very sharp and accurate with his punches, and has outclassed guy's (Arslan, Braithwaite) who were expected to challenge him. Also beat Cunningham. Unless he's really fallen off due to inactivity, I think he will have much too much for a limited brawler like Brudov. Fight also in Jones' homeland of Panama.

I also parlayed these two picks, and added a couple other guy's for a hopeful good payoff.

Parlay additions:

Poonsawat (-365) Opponent Lee has been an overachiever, but he's in deep here. I like Poon a lot, and think he is one of the more solid fighters in the game. Lee will give a good account of himself, but it won't be enough. I don't think Lee is as good as Poon's recent opponent Hosono.

Javier Castro (-175) Castro is a solid and improving guy. I thought he beat Antonio Diaz a while back. Ameth Diaz has the ability to surprise, but he is chinny. This will probably be competitive, but I think Castro is a fighter on the upswing.

One doggie play:

Stephen Foster (+320) - small I make Kirk the favorite, but not by this much. Kirk is gettin' old. I think he's been flattered lately by recent soft opposition. Foster will come to fight hard. He's got a good chin, and if big punching Kirk can't blast him out of there, this is essentially an even go. Foster is definitely in with a chance here.

Still mulling over a couple more things, but this is the heart of it for this weekend.

Good luck guys!!

I'm with Quanah on this one. I think Coleman is crappy. No power, gets hit a lot, thinks he is better than he is. And been very inactive. I thought Assanoutis beat him.

I parlayed Patrick Lopez to the Poonswatter.

It seems like I only one like Coleman so be it.
I like Coleman because of 2 main factors:
1. Coleman is in prime and Lopez every time steps up he fails and now IMO he is not in the prime.
2. Coleman vs Arnautis. Arnautis better then Lopez plus commentators were biased when scoring this fight for Arnautis and they have it wide for Arnautis but in reality I thought draw will be fair. In the last round Coleman actually was beating Arnautis. Anyway good luck Lopez backers. I have only small bet on Coleman but it is small only because too many good crappers for unknown reasons for me picking Lopez.

Any links out there for the showtime fights guys?

Oh, didn't realize that it starts at 11:45 est. I'll look for a link myself, and get back if I find one.

FCUK. Lopez down and done in 3. As Farhood so eloquently put it "he leads with his face". Took a wicked uppercut and that was it. Also was dropped in the 2nd.

Well, I'm good and pissed. I had a genuine good feeling about this fight, and am absolutely shocked at the result. I could have foreseen a Coleman by dec. result, but a third round destruction? Lopez never ko'd. Coleman with 4 ko's in 18 fights. It just goes to show, you just never frickin' know.

I've got some serious filling in to do here to get myself out of this hole. Went big on Lopez. Feeling the urge to chase. Maybe I should ask someone to talk me out of it, but I probably won't listen anyway.

Just heard rumor that Wlad's December opponent will be Derek Chisora. Still in the works but there are some credible sources saying that it's likely...we'll see.

Apparently Odlanier's out because he's fighting Ray Austin??? I'm quite sure he would give up that blockbuster for the chance to face Wlad. Maybe his people don't think he's ready yet, and they're probably right.

Fuk!!.... Sorry, still not done venting about Lopez.... Okay, now I'm done.

Coleman started training with Uncle Rog and apparently it's paying dividends. Farhood was pretty much saying the exact same thing. The guy has 4 KOs, looked better in his loss than his last win but came in man on fire. Lopez landed some nice body shots after being knocked down in the 2nd but for the most part every time he threw something Coleman landed a vicious counter.

This is still a helluva collection of boxing minds on this forum regardless of a minor setback.
