"You are up on the cards, do you want to stop it"

"You are up on the cards, do you want to stop it"

Dubious referee picked for Manny Pacquiao-Antonio Margarito

A referee has been selected for the November 13 mega-bout between congressman-fighter Manny Pacquiao and Antonio Margarito.

The esteemed Laurence Cole will be the third man in the ring for the bout, the Texan who likewise refereed the controversial Super Six bout between Arthur Abraham and Andre Dirrell in which Abraham was disqualified for hitting Dirrell after he slipped to the canvas.

Neither Pacquiao nor Margarito?s camp seems to have voiced complaint over the decision.

Cole was considered in Pacquiao?s previous outing against the petrified Joshua Clottey, but was ultimately overlooked for San Antonio?s Rafael Ramos.

According to Michael Marley of the Boxing Examiner, Cole has been considered a ?competent but erratic? referee.

His father likewise used to manage the Texas boxing commission, putting him in a unique position for the fight.

Margarito was only able to accept a fight with Pacquiao because he was able to obtain a boxing license from Texas, after other state commissions in Nevada and California refused him following a January 2009 incident where a hardened substance was found in his hand wraps.

Cole is the owner of a Dallas insurance agency and boasts a high number of boxer-clients who seek him out for professional insurance. Perhaps his best client is the Mexico City based World Boxing Council (WBC).

It probably goes without saying that Pacquiao and Margarito will be fighting for the WBC junior middleweight title.

Marley suggests that some have found the picking of Cole as referee dubious considering the relationship between him and the WBC.

On Cole?s insurance agency?s website, he says: ?The World Boxing Council was the first boxing organization to introduce life and medical insurance for boxing. For 11 years Laurence Cole Insurance Agency has provided our life and medical coverage for all WBC World Title Fights as well as Affiliate Championships all over the world. The quality of their service has been outstanding, and without doubt we will recommend this company to anyone looking for an efficient and easy to work with insurance provider."

Mr. Excuses and his stooge...So predictable.....

Mr. Excuses and his stooge...So predictable.....

Lou Dibella Entertainment
For Immediate Release:

Allan Green advisor Greg Leon has formally notified the Nevada State Athletic Commission of Team Green's intent to file an appeal of referee Robert Byrd?s decision to call a halt to his bout this past Saturday evening against Glen Johnson at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Johnson was awarded a knockout victory at the close of the eighth round. Green went to the canvas after being on the receiving end of what he and his team feel were rabbit punches. Although Green beat the count, Byrd stopped the bout and Johnson was declared the winner.

To handle this appeal, Green's advisor Greg Leon has hired respected boxing attorney Josh Dubin, who, in California, successfully overturned Timothy Bradley's knockout victory over Nate Campbell to a no contest. The appeal will be filed by the end of the week, and the rules of the NSAC entitle Mr. Green to a decision within sixty days of the filing of his petition.

?A review of the fight makes it clear that the blow which put Mr. Green to the canvass, and led to Mr. Byrd stopping the fight, was a rabbit blow. No question about it. There is absolutely no point in having rules in the first place if they are not going to be enforced. Now it is just a matter of asking the Nevada State Athletic Commission to apply its own rules. That is all we ask for. I have full confidence that the Commission will do that,? said Dubin.

At the time of the stoppage, Green was ahead on two of the three scorecards. Said Leon, ?The fight was close, no doubt about that. But my guy was winning and I just want him be able to win or lose within the rules. He was hit in the back of the head at the end of the third round and then again in the eighth. He should have been given time to recover. I just hope the Nevada Commission hears our case fairly. If they do that, I have no doubt they will overturn the referee?s decision.?

How does this happen?!

As if Lawrence Mr. Insur Coles isn't bad enough Gale van Hoy will be one of the judges. Margarito doesn't stand a chance. If he knocks down Pacman Coles will rule it a slip time and again. And if he completely dominates the fight van hoy will find a way to give it to Pacman.

Paulie said it best:
"But there is no way anyone won that fight 118-110," Malignaggi said. "Gale Van Hoy just filled out his scorecard, on purpose, to (rob) Paulie Malignaggi. I don't know how Gale Van Hoy keeps getting jobs."
