South African Undercard

South African Undercard

according to boxingscene.com:

In the co-main event, Moruti Mthalane (27-2, 18 KOs) retained his IBF flyweight crown when he beat Johnriel Casimero (14-2, 8 KOs) by TKO in the fifth round. The fight was a war from the first round with both boxers trading big punches. Casimero began to fade as the high pace continued, round by round, and had enough when the champion wore him down with bigger shots in the fifth.

Sat. night

Sat. night

- Jorge Diaz is the cornerstone play of the weekend for me. Diaz an overachiever. He seems to be improving, and has had a series of good wins. Kennedy has been winning too, but struggling, not what you'd expect if he were a next level guy. Diaz looks like he can be outboxed, and Kennedy is a boxer, but he seems to bust up and slow down. 12 round distance good for Diaz me thinks. Diaz takes over late, maybe even getting a stoppage.

- Gamboa looks like solid parlay material. Solis competent, but I can't see him seriously challenging Gamboa.

- Stephane Jamoye. I'm taking a small/med. shot with Jamoye, who is on my updated favorite list. Guy is crazy active and also quickly becoming a road warrior. I hope they aren't pushing him too fast. Santa Cruz much taller than Jamoye, and does appear to have some skills. Santa Cruz has never been past 6 though. I think this will be the difference and Jamoye will methodically take over.

- I also think Remillard is worth a shot at +400. Big step up for him, and we really don't know how good he is. It could be that Garcia will be too strong and overwhelm. Big stage for Remillard. He's a good boxer though, and I think that Garcia, although improving, can be out-slicked. Maybe Remillard is good enough to pull it off.

Diaz all over him in first two. Landing big shots. Diaz down from flash knoockdown in the third! Not hurt, and probably doesn't lose round 9-9. Good fight!

Hell of a fight! Diaz outworking him through 5. Diaz down again, hard in the 6th. Smoger within a whisker of stopping it, Diaz staggering. Makes it to end of round. 7th, Diaz' legs are not there. Smoger looking to step in... By end of 7th, Diaz on offensive again, Kennedy tiring!!

Round 8 is a big round!

Crazy role reversal in 9. Kennedy coming forward, the aggressor. Diaz boxes, lands many hard clean shots. Round to Diaz. Even with the knockdowns, I think Diaz is up - barely.

Round 10 very close. Diaz boxing, Kennedy stalking. I was set to give rd to Kennedy, but I think Diaz stole it with a strong final minute. Diaz by 2 points with two to go. Diaz was so close to being stopped in 6.

I gotta give 11 to Diaz. He's fighting just a bit harder. He's boxing, but very tired. You get the impression a big shot from Kennedy could get him. Close fight. Kennedy may have left him off the hook.

Round 12 will be interesting.

12. Both guys exhausted. Kennedy cut, Diaz eye swollen shut. Little to choose from.

tough, close decision. Diaz down twice. I've got it 114-112 Diaz.
