Draw looked fair

Draw looked fair

Nava and Torres DRAW over 10 rounds in womens title bout

early reports in Spanish are that Nava was robbed

I willl dig up more

I watched the fight online, Ghost, in between the HBO and Showtime cards (Showtime on tape delay). The draw looked fair. Both women were a bit knocked, around, Nava with a bruise and swelling under the left eye, Torres with a bloody nose and left eye swollen on top. Nava landed the heavier shots, understandable as she was the bigger fighter, and she was rocking Torres with some big left hooks and right hands, but Torres kept coming back with volleys of punches and even had Nava backing up and under pressure at times. Non-stop action. Each woman had the body language of a winner, each paraded around the ring on the shoulders of a cornerman, and both seemed happy enough with the draw. Best women's fight in many years and what with the thrillers on HBO and Showtime just a great night of boxing.

Thanks for bringing this to my attention Q. I rarely play props but this one stuck out to me.

:0074

It stuck out to me too.

Yeah, I generally don't have the best of luck with props either. Too exact and generally not worth much more than a little cherry on top. +1478 was too juicy to pass up.

You also brought up the prop for Salido ITD. I actually almost parlayed the two together but I figured it was waste, even if it was for only 10 bucks.

20ish on each one netted 3 bills apiece so that was nice. A little parlay together would've been something. Didn't do dat, but big dogs barked - parlayed Salido and Ortiz to win... Best weekend of the year!

Hmmmmmmmmm

Hmmmmmmmmm

I've had three people call me today, whose opinions I greatly respect. All around the boxing community in some fashion or another. All 3 said the same thing:

"Damn Salido looked strong as a bull! I haven't seem him look like that since the Guerrero bout."

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

Puerto Rico ain't Las Vegas. A bit easier to sneak things down there. Maybe a little sip sip of the wonder juice?

I wonder. I just wonder.

With archaic way they do testing nowadays and laughable fines for fighters that get caught I think commissions are giving thumbs up to using illegal substances.

Steve Kim over at Max boxing talks a little about the path Salido had to take and how he was never coddled like a lot of guys. I just think he comes from the school of hard knocks and was ready and determined. Yea, anything is possible, and it would tarnish what was a magnificent performance, but I ain't so sure. Until it's proven, it's just conjecture, like the Loch Ness monster!

well it already was proven once, and it's a lot easier to cross that line a second time.

per boxrec:

2006-11-04 : Robert Guerrero 126 lbs fought without result Orlando Salido 126 lbs by ND in round 12 of 12

"Salido tested positive for the steroid nandrolone after the fight. However, Salido had a follow-up blood test the day after at LabCorp, a nationally recognized blood lab, and the findings were negative of any steroids. "

Fight was in Lopez' country. Knowing Salido's past, you've got to think that they were on top of this.

Who knows what to believe anyhow with the testing? One test says one thing, another another??? Maybe Guerrero's people - promoter corrupted the testing process somehow so as to save some face when Guerrero got his ass kicked? Don't know, but I'm just sayin'...I'm not ready to believe everything I hear about positive results straight away.

It's true, that specter is now out there about Salido - because of one test that was ultimately inconclusive.

At this point, just gotta give him full credit for a career win.

I think you have to wonder a little bit, Ghost. I remember thinking when Salido lost to Cristobal Cruz that he didn't look anywhere near as strong as he did in the fight with Guerrero. I mean, Cruz was walking through him and bullying him at times in that fight. I didn't make any endorsement on the Lopez-Salido fight although I expected a stoppage win in about 10 rounds for Lopez, but Salido looked rock-solid in the weigh-in photos, Lopez looked a little softer. I wondered about how strong Lopez would be at 126. Salido was a veritable powerhouse in Puerto Rico. We are in a climate-of-cheating era in all sports. This was a fabulous win for Salido. Did he have some performance-enhancing help? Who knows?

"the bunker"
i think that lopez could have used a nandrolone injection in his left hand....he couldn`t seem to hold it up near his chin...:D

that mtagwa fight, imo, was a tip that lopez was either not quite as good as advertized or not always willing to train at 100% for his supposed easier fights...

i`ve always wondered about pacquaio and his meteoric rise through the weight classes....along with his questionnable training coaches.....

but,manny`s off limits...

It was proven, then disproven. Sounds like a wash to me. But if he did, he needs to be banned from boxing for like ten years, basically, forever. But he had a terrific victory, so that's where it stands.

Not exactly a wash.

Happens all the time. In every sport. Lots in MMA. Guy comes up dirty. Guy's team finds a separate, well respected lab. Few days later. Presto! Negative result.

I wouldn't call that "disproven".

Inconclusive might be a better phrase.

I will be very interested in Salido's next few bouts.

Regardless, the other side of the story was JuanMa and his vulnerable state. Dude was showing cracks for awhile now.

Those who pinpointed this in the lead up to Saturday were able to call an amazing underdog winner. Well played.
