Thanks for the answer. I understand now.
Exactly, if you play Dzinziruk straight at -650 you have no options left other than to buy out or let it ride. Since I've been building up parlays on him for the last couple months (using sure thing favorites to lower the odds) now I can put a very small amount on Konecny at +600 to cover almost all of my risk while still leaving 80% of the profits to be gained.
When you use parlays to lower the odds, you give yourself plenty of options to hedge or middle your original play when the time comes. If I played Dzinziruk -650 I would be left with a huge straight wager at horrible odds and taking Konecney +600 would do nothing but reduce my odds on the fight.
There are 2 reasons why I play parlays in boxing...
1) I very rarely lay more than 3-1 on a boxing match, for obvious reasons, if I lay $100 on a wager I expect to get back at least $30-$40 on my investment. Any payout less than that is not worth it at all. By using parlays I can make money on the heavy favoriters that are priced too high to play straight, which is -350 and above...imo.
2) Some of this is covered in #1, but the main point is that without parlays I wouldn't have the confidence to play alot of the wagers I make money on. I'm very big on Dzinziruk tomarrow at -150...thanks to the parlays I've been building up since the line opened. If my only option was to play Dzinziruk straight at -650, I wouldn't have played him at all and I wouldn't have made a ton of money on him. Like I said, I'll lay 3-1 odds, but I won't lay 7-1, as any experienced sports gambler will tell you...laying heavy wood is very risky and no way to consistently make money betting sports. In fact, most of the best sports-bettors I know won't lay more than -110 on anything
