McCline-Smith

Big time McCline is 36 and hasn't looked good in a while. He's been beating some low-rent bums lately trying to pad his record in an attept to get another title shot. I was at the McCline-Calloway fight and scored it 97-93 but could easily have been 96-94. Calloway is by far the best guy McCline has beat since losing a lopsided decision to Zuri Lawrence, a loss he blames on a blood disease that is now under control...excuses...excuses. Calloway and McGee have both been stopped several times in their careers but they both went the distance with McCline back to back...this year.

Terry Smith is not a great fighter, but he's good and he has a ton of heart. What he lacks in skill, he'll make up for with his work rate and determination. McCline fades pretty fast, after the 5th or 6th round, Smith should be able to outhustle and outland the huge, lumbering McCline. I was only 25 feet from the Calloway fight and McCline looked extremely uncoordinated to me, size is his best asset.

Smith recently went 10 rounds with Calvin brock who's not a great fighter either but he has some power, almost killed the guy that schooled McCline for 10 rounds. Anyway, Smith was a late replacement and took the fight on very short notice. Still he held his own against Brock, one judge had it 96-94, the other judges gave Smith 3 rounds. On short notice he did quite well agianst another guy who schooled McCline for 10 rounds.

Here's the kicker, location...location...location

Smith is from Little Rock, AR which is only a few hours from Tulsa, OK where this fight will take place.

Smith has fought in Oklahoma 14 times in the last 5 years, thats almost 3 times a year. And 10 of those fights were in Tulsa!

There one thing you can be sure of in this fight, Smith has the hometown advantage here and the crowd will cheer every time he throws a punch whether it lands or not. Very tough spot for McCline here, who always fades late in the fight and doesn't have a high work rate anyway.

Well, my brother, we are here. I'm still foggy over how bad Vargas looked. I already bet Baldomir many moons ago. Just not focused this week. But we give you our collective moral support. I feel I can speak for the faithful among us.

Jameel McCline 270 vs Terry Smith 225

I think McCline put the feed bag on during training.

Heavyweights: Jameel McCline (37-6-3, Harlem, N.Y.) vs. Terry Smith (28-1, Little Rock)

This is only a 10 round fight. I agree they should coast through this fight.

BOX - Does Smith have any chance of chopping down this tree ? What kind of a chin do both fighters have ?

I have never seen either of them I dont think.

BOX - Oly has this at over -180.

Something is wrong. I almost never get a better number than you this late.

It makes me think there may be a KO and the under.

Looks like I'm the only one on the favorite this weekend. Gatt-Baldomir has "war" written all over it. One thing's for sure, Gatti won't be taking this fight lightly as Judah did. I'm not worried about a stoppage on cuts because I think Gatti's style has changed significantly over the years -- he's more of a boxer than a brawler. I think Baldomir's straght ahead style will work to Gatti's advantage and he should be able to outwork Baldomir en route to a decision win.
Gatti by decision +150

Line is definitly moving against me, we'll see how it turns out.

McCline's not getting stopped by Smith, which is why I took a small shot on the decision at better + money. Smith doesn't have much power and McCline has a good chin. The only question is, can McCline use his size to break down the smaller guy. Smith was momentarily hurt by the 7 foot tall Julius Long but he recovered to win the fight. I made a small play on the Over b/c Smith went 10 rounds with Calvin Brock on very short notice. Not only did he take Brocks best shots, he held his own offensively with one judge giving him 4 rounds. And he did all this without training for the fight. He will be much more prepared for this one, I just hope McClines size doesn't overwhelm him, if Smith can make it past the first half of the fight, McCline will start to fade fast. Smith says he's ready to weather the early storm.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Side note...

I put a sh*tload on McCline -160 at sportsbook when I noticed pinnacle had already moved to -178/+168 setting up an automatic scalp and hoping for further line movement on McCline. The price has bounced around and now I can...

1) take Smith +160 to break even and forget about it

2) wait and see if the late money comes in on McCline

3) take Smith by decision +260 as a hedge setting up a profit either way, but taking a big risk on a small opportunity

4) let it ride, knowing that if McCline loses, my plays on the Over and Smith by decision would most likely cash

Decisions...decisions...any suggestions from the crew?

No Don King influence here

The ESPN2 broacast doesn't start for another 2.5 hours, and I imagine the McCline fight will be televised.

Are you sure it starts in 30 minutes?

Unless there is a 2 hour differance in time zone on East coast.

I read it on boxing news so I thought they would be accurate.

Anywho..... I got the bet down .... thats all that matters to me.

thanks
