IBF #3 lightweight Miguel Vazquez (26-3, 12 KOs) scored a lopsided unanimous decision over #1 Ji Hoon Kim (21-6, 18 KOs) to claim the vacant IBF lightweight championship on Saturday night at the Energy Arena in Laredo, Texas. Vazquez comprehensively outboxed the aggressive Kim, who rarely took a step back. Vazquez? movement negated Kim?s pressure on the way to a well-earned 119-109, 120-108, 118-110 win. The title had been vacant since Nate Campbell lost the belt on the scale in February 2009. Ali Funeka had a chance to win the belt that night, but lost a majority decision. Joan Guzman fought Funeka last November for the vacant belt, but that bout ended in a draw.
