Leavander Johnson died today from head injuries sustained in his fight with Jesus Chavez last weekend.

Johnson was a true warrior and great fighter

I'm so glad he became a world champion before leaving us, it was his goal and dream.

Thanks for the memories Leavander...RIP

i hate to throw stones at tony weeks.....but,he was the one that,imo,f-cked up the castillo/corrales bout.....

still,i think the fight should have been stopped...period...at least in the previous round....maybe before...

maybe we`ll stop hearing what a consumate pro weeks is...this is at least 2 recent fight in which he erred....

richard steele gets alot of flak...weeks deserves to catch some...

i pray that he doesn`t work castillo/corrales II..we don`t need another fatality..

that said.....i think even more blame lays with johnson`s corner...his father,to be specific....

i`m glad a touched both guys by decision at better than 15-1.......

the "fight doesn`t go the distance" prop dropped to -640.....

?????

boxing is a shaky business....

btw....anybody give any thought to suico/jauregui over 9.5?....suico can punch....but i don`t think he`s very quick....jauregui is a hardened vet....

Ok what did Tony Weeks do wrong in the Corrales/Castillo fight??

Should he have let Corrales hit Castillo one more time, so Castillo could have wound up like Leveander (may he RIP)???

(Sorry Box for bringing this back up.)

Flipper

I don't think gw is saying that Weeks let the Cast-Corr fight go too long before stopping it. I think he's just saying that Weeks hasn't been making good decisions lately, and in a fight like Cast-Corr II a mistake in judgement could end a fighters career or life. This is not Spinks vs Gardner, these guys are big punchers with great chins and plenty of heart. Its a very dangerous fight for both guys and it only makes sense to have to the best ref in the ring.

What did Weeks do wrong in the first fight?

Only a Corrales homer would ask that question

sorry i opened that can of worms in your thread....my bad...

it never ceases to amaze me how myopic gamblers can be when it comes to one of their plays....

flipper...i respect your opinion...but,did you really think i was referring to the stoppage?....and not the excessive time corrales got after almost getting knocked out himself?....twice....

did you forget?...

...we are all entitled to our opinions...but,it seems like everyone forgot what happened in that bout...i can only imagine what would have been said had the roles been reversed...

it`s cool,flipper...we can do it again in a few weeks...

and i admit..i have absolutely no idea on a side in this bout...none...

congrats on jauregui,b.l.,,,,,you pushed my hand on a small jauregui play...and i actually bet a tiny play on the over...not enough to mean much,though...not worth crowing about...

g.l.,tonight,bud...

I lost a heap of cash on Castillo in that fight but I don't necessarily agree that Weeks messed up. The rule is you are supposed to put a guy's mouthpiece back in when there is a lull in the action. After a guy gets up from a KD that constitutes a lull. In the end the difference in the fight ended up being that Corrales was a smart fighter and Castillo wasn't.

the wrong guy won the first fight...thanks to weeks..i`ll believ that to my dying day...

35 seconds?..and then a second time?....there`s no excuse...he gained an unfair advantage...thanks to weeks`actions...

weeks acted with no sense of urgency.....nada.....either he`s incompetent...or just flat out lazy....

and believe me it`s not because of any wager...i had the under,i believe....

i believe the guy that earns it in the ring should win....if you`ve ever trained for a fight...or a wrestling match...or any sporting event....you know what a travesty it is to have some idiot change the outcome...

an eight count...a few seconds to replace the mouthpiece...

you earn the advantage in the ring...with your blood and sweat...

not some lazy mofo...that may or may not have been in somebody`s pocket....

the american fighter...the goossen fighter to be exact....got an unfair advantage....a fight changing advantage...

that`s my opinion...i can only imagine the squealing we`d have heard had this gone the other way....

but,i`d have been bitching just as hard....

i can remember bitching like hell on another forum..about freitas getting extra time vs corrales..i believe it was...thankfully,that outcome wasnt affected....

Obviously somebody was in the wrong here b/c you can't tell me there's nothing wrong with a fighter getting 30 seconds to recover from a knockdown twice in the same round.

If its not Weeks' fault, then the rules need adjusted as soon as possible so this bullsh+t doesn't change the outcome of another fight.

Corrales was very smart, he knew he was about to be KTFO so he used a loophole in the rules to buy him more recovery time. Its either the rules or the refs fault that this was allowed to take place, and it has to be rectified ASAP.

I hope in the rematch, Castillo gets decked twice in the 10th round and both times spits out his mouthpiece giving him 30 seconds to recover, then comes back and floors Corrales. Wouldn't that be great Flipper!!!

I think the rule should be ammended. Funny enough this wasn't the first time a fighter may have changed the outcome by spitting out there mouthpiece. In round 11, Freitas did it against barrios as well and the ref was very lax about it in that fight as well. I don't remember people saying much about it in that fight though oddly enough.

i really just hope the rematch ends cleanly...and without controversy.....

anybody that thinks that house fighters in america(vegas),don`t get as much of an advantage...as those overseas.....

is in the midst of an ether binge...

why am i not shocked that the second bout is in vegas?.....

castillo...you`d better bring your gat....you ain`t leaving with that belt unless you cripple corrales...and even then,it`s gonna be iffy....

Adding

Peter over Klitschko -157...lay .3 to win .2

Peter-Klitschko over 6.5 +132...lay .3 to win .4

As posted in several threads, I played and posted Klit and the under when they hit the board knowing the lines would move in a big way and that a scalp would be available later. The time is now, as the lines have peaked.

Risking nothing to win .15 on Klitschko and risking nothing to win .2 on the under.
