My wife keeps asking about switching from cable to either dish or direct. I don't see that I would save any money and I lose the local channels. But if I have to choose, which would you recommend. BTW cable runs about 175 (most of bill is either taxes or those stupid boxes)

I have been with directv for 9 years and I have not had one issue at all, I have all the channels and it runs about 120 per month with all HD and 2 hddvr's, I dont think I can ever go back to cable now:shrug: I have it billed to my credit card too, no bills at all...

Direct TV with no questions asked.

I have 4 recievers and the total choice package which is a "middle of the road package" and it only cost about $80 per month.

If a huge storm cloud comes through I might lose service for 20 minutes tops. I have had one instance where I had off and on service one nite when a huge storm front came through.

I also get locals.

I've got a gripe about directv.

Just got an additional HD receiver. Plug it in and it won't get HD channels, just standard def.

So I call...they say "it must be a problem with the line". Someone has to come out, 50$.

So I take my HD DVR from upstairs downstairs to this room, hook it up, and voila, I've got HD channels. Call back and explain that surely it can't be an issue with the lines because I'm staring at HD. Must be the receiver they sent.

Sir, it could still be the lines, someone has to come out and no we won't waive the 50$ fee.

So I upgrade by additional additional service, the shit doesn't work and it's their fault, and I gotta pay another 50$ to get it fixed when it's their problem with the receiver?

FUCK THAT

are you hooked up for HD DVR in the new room? they have to run an additional line to the box for HD/DVR's.

if you dont have two lines coming in to it, you need to have that extra line in stalled. you just cant plug and play it to replace a standard unit.

You should have the protection plan , I pay 3.99 a month have been with them 10 + years house and office, anything needs fixed it is free, trust me it is well worth it, I have used it a few times wire issue 1 time would of been over 500 bucks in the office. i get new recivers every time they upgrade I own mine. as for snow as someone ask or ice you can get dishes that heat or are shielded, shit wind blows here over 50 mph many days in the year never a problem, have it in house back east that gets lot of snow never had a problem.

Yeah, it's hooked up, we've got the dual lines down there.

And I was just trying to hook up an HD Receiver..no DVR.

I have directv with 5 boxes. I also have basic cable for internet and locals since I still can not get them thru directv.

Directv rules and nothing better if you are a sports fan. Been with them for over ten years now.

I would definitely get the protection plan like Fletcher says, 3.99 a month and if anything happens they come fix it for free.

Marine check out there new SWIM installation..no longer need two lines to each HD/DVR....on one line to each receiver..

best to request when ordering..or try ones best to make sure installer has one on the truck..installers call ahead. at least for me at every upgrade.

one can tell the installer when he gets there that you prefer the SWIM and would he please issue another install date ASAP.

We have the SWIM system in 5 rooms w/white line to match the wall for the spot that had to go around the bathroom door..no ther way for that unit..

thought ya might want the latest news.

Had dish network.... They lost the MLB package so I switched to Direc TV.. Direc much better. Sgnal rarely goes out unlike with DIsh. Seemed like it just needed a little rain to knock Dish out.

Saint call back..be nice ..as you always are and explain the problem again..IF YOU GET THE SAME REPLY...politely ask for a Supervisor ..

no reason I know of that the HD shouldn't work since you did the logical test w/ the switch..

try the reset button if you haven't already..

you can also plug it in..turn it off for about 5 min.'s ..turn it back on hit reset again. and see if it starts the download and search and so forth..

13 years my buddy...not one time has Directv ever not taken care of a problem ..

good luck..

very interested to know how it turns out..

OS is right if you are nice even if you have not been with them many years or even less then 1 year they will work for you, and like he said just ask for a super if you don't feel it is being taken care of right, They want your business and want it long term, ask for what you want with in reason if your a good cust. they will give you the best deals they can they have flex in charges , we have a movie room, have them in 1 bedroom , living room and 5 in my office be nice and ask and they will work with you.

Yea what everyone else said. I've been with Directv for about 8 years now, and if nothing else they have the NFL Sunday ticket, and for me that is a deal sealer.

believe it or not i'm nice as pie to these folks. i'm old enough to realize that if there is a chance i'm gonna get it refunded it's by being nice. The folks on the other end making 7 dollars an hour don't control the fees it's the big wigs fault not theirs. I tried 3 different people and no one would budge! In a way I'm just trying to understand why it's not working...have tried all the resets, etc. But for an HD-DVR to work in there it makes sense that a plain old HD receiver should work.

THe guy is coming Thurs AM 8-12.

i've been happy with the actual directv just not that i'm being charged for adding service/increasing my bill.
