this model should come with a broad band converter..

all model receivers have either an internal or external broadband converter.

your HD-DVR has an internal..thus it converts the signal coming in upstairs so you get the perfect reception..

I called Directv for you..

If you didn't receive an external broadband converter w/the new receiver Directv will ship you one out..In fact the nice rep suggested you ask for two, having one for back-up.

This is the easy fix...now she did say that you may have wiring issues as well..But not likely..

Because the HD/DVR converted the signal for you up-stairs I highly doubt it is a wiring issue..

You can call Directv w/this update of info if you like..Rep said that a Knowing tech should tell you the same info..

hope this helped..

If not...we tried..

Hey thanks so much for the effort I really appreciate it. I'll try to call first thing in the AM-

You were right, the broadband converter I must have missed when unpacking so this is completely my fault.

Thanks so much for taking the time to help. I guess the 3 techs I spoke to figured I had it hooked up and didn't ask.

Thanks again OS :mj06:

Both Dish and Directv let you keep that part of the system in tact in hopes you sign up again or if you sell/rent out the place a new owner will join.

As for your question:
A. You can use it to get IKS(Internet Key Sharing) it is somewhat illegal I guess. I mean amazon.com allows sells for all the stuff to do it so how illegal is it?

B. It is yours and you can probably get between $25 and $40 for the dish in a yard sale or craigslist.

C. I don't think they will come out for removal even if you pay them.

Thanks for info--spent about 2 hours researching IKS last night--and a bit over my head.

I'm currently very pissed at my cable provider whom I've had for 20 years--and looking for alternatives. Not interested in pay for view or sports pakages (other than golf channel)

Would be happy to pay modest fee to be able to access a just few channels of my choice--Foxs news-weather channel-usa-discovery and golf channel--and maybe a couple others.

Get all the movies I need via roku/netflix @ $8 and change a month.

Well I dont know what your situation is or if Comcast cable is in your area but the triple play(cable, internet, and phone) is $99 a month or $129 if you want more than basic channels and HD.
Internet is $50 by itself.
So $49 for cable and a phone line is not bad.
