can we put the "fix" issue to rest please ....

had a few bucks on seattle and a litte more on the under. was happy to make a couple of dollars.
the fix talk is nonsense. the officiating wasn't great by any stretch but steelers made enough plays to win and cover.

imo, thats really what the game came down to. pittsburgh made the plays.
seattle didn't.
it's obvious that a lot of myopic steelers fans still are convinced that seattle had no business on the field with them today. seattle outplayed the steelers for the majority of the game (in terms of the consistency of offensive production). but pittsburgh made the "impact plays". nobody dominated anybody, nor is one team head and shoulders above the other.

steelers made the plays that mattered and deserved to cover. and the fix talk is nonsense, just as is the talk that pittsburgh is clearly the better team.

its not gonna go down as the prettiest super bowl in nfl history, but it was watchable and the two teams involved were evenly matched. steelers did enough to cover and the game was pretty much a dead under.

Not fixed per se. Neither are Duke games.

But they sure both get officiated that way.

Has to be the most one sided porrly officaited big football game I have ever seen. The Steelers certainkly made plays. A great deal of it was the poor officiating allowing the opportunities to do so.

That said, I am still trying to figure out what Seattle was doing most of the game on offense.

I won't call the game a fix but the officiating was the worst in a big game & had a Duke type feel to it.

How can every call go against Seattle especially when all of them were pretty bogus.

No man...this was brutal, blatant, obvious BULLSH!T. Every crucial juncture, the calls went against Seattle. Even non-calls .... Pittsburgh GLARINGLY offside when they sacked Hasselbeck...the guy jumped almost a full second before the ball was even snapped....NO CALL. The Hasselbeck low block call....BS. The Jurevicius no TD for nothing....BS. So many calls / non-calls. Hell the replay officials upstairs turned back that Hasselbeck "fumble" before the half when he was SO CLEARLY touched before he went down AND his elbow hit the ground....how could the refs miss all of this?? Pittsburgh allowed to call a timeout after the play clock expired??

I have never, ever in my life called fix. I only lost $100 net on this game when all was said and done, and I can live with that, it's not a money issue. But I tell ya, I have never seen a more grossly, unfairly officiated game in my life. The NFL should be completely embarassed that THAT is what the casual viewer, the guy who never watches a game all year, sees when he finally tunes in. He leaves with the impression that this has all the legitimacy of the WWE.

It's not just this forum. Turn on the radio, it's on there. Turn on the TV, it's on there. The feeling is widespread and this is not usual, even for a Superbowl. Sure, you will hear the odd fan here or there after almost any game say this, but I mean there are thousands and thousands of people who are screaming mad, or in disbelief at the officiating.

Pittsburgh may in fact have won this game anyways, but the referees made sure it happened. I never thought I'd call FIX, but this one can't be ignored.

can't argue with anything you wrote. you're right, some of the game changing plays were preceded by some calls that went pittsburgh's way and that certainly helped the cause.

two things to me stand out-

1) the push off in the end zone was bogus. simply not a good call. that kind of stuff goes on during every single wide receiver/defensive back matchup during the course of a game. very bad call

2) the reverse pass that pittsburgh ran for the touchdown had to be the slowest developing trick play ive ever seen. you could tell right away that it was a reverse pass and seattle's corner's still bit. it wasn't like pittsburgh was gashing the seattle run defense to set that play up. the seahawks were completely out of position there. and that cost them the cover.

When two teams are this evenly matched, those type of big "soft" penalties can make all the difference. And it did in this case. Was it fixed? Im not sure, but it did make a difference in this game and the spread/outcome for anyone who wagered on it.

I would say its the same type of play that goes on every play of every game. The same type of play thet Pitt did all day, but wasn't called. It was not holding. Madden said so as well. Pitt got several breaks like that.

I was once again reminded of why I can't lay big $$$ on NFL games.......when is the NFL going to go with a novel idea and let the players decide the outcome of games? To take away a sure seattle TD on a marginal PI call and then take away a 1st and goal at the 1 yard line on a hold that even Madden called at best marginal is a joke.....but at the same token to be expected nowadays. It is a very sick feeling to watch a game that involves big, strong, fast, athletic individuals be decided by the exact opposites....I don't know about the rest of you, but I felt cheated......not because I lost $$$ on seattle....hell, I've won and lost tons of games and will win and lose tons more, the $$$ isn't the issue here......I'm talking solely from a fan standpoint here.....as a fan of football, I feel cheated after watching that game. The NFL needs to get this issue of how a game is going to be officiated addressed and soon......this league is fast becoming like the NBA in regard to how games are called. This league needs to quit trying to flag every single little marginal play and just get the obvious ones correct....let the big boys play football.....stay out of their way as much as possible.....let the players win or lose the game!!
