again....it wasn`t the point deduction....the point deduction was a moot point..it wasn`t corrales.....

it was the extreme amount of time that weeks took to remedy the situation.....no sense of urgency.....as a matter of fact, the exact opposite was true....weeks appeared to be deliberately taking extra time....

i`ve said it aronnd 3 or 4 times now...

mark ratner...who,if he criticized his own ref would be akin to david stern criticizing an nba ref in public(which doesn`t happen...you don`t s-it in your own backyard),stated that although weeks did nothing technically wrong,he was at ringside yelling for weeks to hurry up.....weeks was suspiciously deliberate....particularly on the second knockdown....

between 25-30 seconds given after a knockdown?......that`s unheard of.....fight altering...

think of how many other fight results may have been altered had this occurrence happened....

i can`t honestly remember it ever hapening in a fight...to this extent...much less twice in a row... ...rule interpretation gives some wiggle room to the ref....

and the ref abused it....

i agree that the rules need to be changed or you`ll get more skewed results...

that turn of events altered two boxers careers forever.....and i set the blame squarely at weeks`flat feet.....that`s what chafes me...

ohhh..and btw...let us not forget that corrales spit the bit in the 8th,also...forcing weeks to take time to get the piece put back in....

let`s see...1...2...3.....that`s how we count `em...

one more thing...if i recall, frietas was called a b-tch for spitting the bit when chico knocked him down....now,chico is a master strategist....he didn`t know where the hell he was after the second knockdown...lol

all depends on whose ox gets gored....

but,to be fair,i praise corrales for never quitting ...he comes to win...no quit in him.....no blame should come his way....he deserves mad respect...

well i guess we can go round and round about it as we have the past few days...it was a great fight...

i think corrales was more hurt the first time he went down...but i don't think he was completely impaired, as he had the sense in him to think of taking out the piece the second time....

onward and upward fellas.

I don't blame Corrales for this BS, Diego was about to get KTFO and he knew it, so he did the only thing he could do to bye more time. Unfortunatly the only thing he could was intentionally break the rules which is cheating. If you don't think what he did is cheating, why did they take a point away. Btw, if cheating isn't unsportsman-like, nothing is.

Weeks deserves some of the blame. No, he didn't break any rules but as mentioned he took entirely too long to put the mouthpiece back in, especially the second time.

IMO, the wbo and wbc rules should get the most blame for this. Diego did what he did on purpose b/c he knew the punishment wasn't strong enough to fit the crime. Taking one point away from him did not hurt Diego, giving him an extra 5 seconds to recover while taking the point, helped Diego so don't tell me the rules are fair. The fight obviously wasn't going the distance and Diego knew that so he traded a point deduction for an extra 15 seconds of recovery. Untill the rules don't let that happen, this sh*t will start happening all the time. There is a serious loop hole in the rules and it effected the outcome of this fight big time. If you can't see that you are blind (or a homer).

Flipper, I have a few questions for you...

Do you actually think there's nothing wrong with what took place at the end of that fight and that nothing should be changed?

If Castillo had pulled this sh*t and he was given 20 seconds to recover form the 1st kd and 30 seconds to recover from the 2nd kd, and then he ko'd Diego. Are you telling me you wouldn't have a problem with that?

WTF???

Box,

1)The penalty was just as it was clearly in accordance within the rules that you stated...

The penalty for breaking that rule is like a 5 or 10 yard penalty in football...

Diego was penalized accordingly....My guess is that he probably wanted a little extra rest and was willing to pay the price for it by possibly losing a point off the scorecards...

If the shoe was on the other foot, I wouldn't be pissed about the mouthpiece as much as you are since I now I know what the penalty is for doing that (thanks to you posting it)...

It was a clever calculated tatic taken if it was intentional.

DQ's are usually due to loading the gloves, illegal punches, biting off ears, testing positive for enhancement drugs...

But spitting out the mouthpiece, per the rules, is only a deduction of a point which Diego was penalized for so it is not like he got away with something...He was penalized accordingly.

If the governing bodies of boxing want to change the rules now, that is fine...Just don't change the rules in the middle of a fight.

not trying to stir the pot....just making the point that south of the border, this fight was perceived in a much different way than we anglo`s perceived it......that is,most anglo`s other than myself.....

the wbc is now saying that there may have been 40 SECONDS that elapsed between the second knockdown and the resumption of the fight....

unacceptable to me....acceptable to some....i don`t know how...unless weeks had to remold it to fit chico`s mouth....

depends whose ox is getting gored....

"""WBC to review Corrales-Castillo!
Citing "furor" about the Diego Corrales-Jose Luis Castillo clash, the WBC is naming a committee to review the fight. A WBC press release states, "There have been many protests from most of the press in Mexico and Latin America, as well as the Federal Boxing Commission in regards to the performance of the referee, who, among other things, let approximately 40 seconds go from the moment of the second knockdown to the continuing of the action in the tenth round....The lightweight championship of the world was held under the trademark of the WBC, and is our obligation to respond to all matters that receive a request, and we think that there was something that was done wrong. It is our obligation to those who trust the WBC's impartiality, rules, and actions.""""

biased toward the mexican?....maybe....the same can be said about ratner, showtime and the american media....
