When looking @ UT/UF keep in mind that the reminants of Ivan will be in the area - the storm is quiet large and (trust me for living in florida for 30+ years) will affect this game in some manner. Although wind probably wont be an issue, I can assure you that rain will be.

That being said, take this info for what it is worth: This summer has been the wetest summer in recent memory in Northern Fla (I live in Jacksonville, which is 50 miles from UF). It has rained literally every dayfor the past 2 months (no B.S. - and I'm not talking about sprinkles). My front lawn has turned into a freaking mushroom swamp (unfortunately, none are 'useful'). UF has practiced in the rain at least 2-3 times per week during fall practice. To say that they have had wet ball drills is something of an understatement - both hurricanes Charles and Frances have affected practices (and even the 1st game).

Several articles in the local rags have referenced Leak's uncanny ability to throw the ball in inclement weather (here's one from today, go to the archives of www.gatorsports.com for others):

This series has had its share of wet games, many of which were determined by turnovers.

If its raining during the game, consider the advantage going to UF. Take it for what its worth... Good luck.

Pulled from the mullet-rapper The Gainseville Sun:

Sept. 15, 2004:

In the words of Eric Clapton, "Let it Rain."

That's Florida's approach to Hurricane Ivan and the fact its remnants could end up soaking Neyland Stadium on Saturday night in Knoxville.

Having already worked around two hurricanes in the preseason and practiced in a whole bunch of rain, the Gators say they've become pretty accustomed to the stuff. They certainly don't appear to be stressing over what Ivan will do, given what they've been through already this season.

In fact, they won in the rain in Knoxville two years ago, so they view the messy stuff as an ally.

"Last week we practiced in rain three out of the five days, so we're ready for the rain," senior strong safety Cory Bailey said. "When we went into Tennessee two years ago, the field held up great. I'm not really worried about the rain. As long as it doesn't snow, we'll be all right."

The Gators practiced in a downpour Monday and more rain is in the forecast this week. And, of course, it's probably going to be in the forecast for Saturday night's game.

"The game is on regardless of the rain," UF coach Ron Zook said. "If it rains, it's no big deal for us."

Zook said quarterback Chris Leak is a lot like former UF quarterback Rex Grossman, who beat the Vols in the rain in 2002. He throws a wet ball extremely well, Zook said.

"Rex loved (playing in the rain)," Zook said. "Chris loves it, too. He doesn't have a problem (throwing the ball in rain)."

Linebacker Channing Crowder said the UF defense also likes the rain.

"The rain won't affect us. We love it," Crowder said. "Running backs have to run slower to make cuts and quarterbacks have to worry about a slippery ball. It gives the defense an advantage."

The play here is going to be over the total - Pinnacle started the total at 49, its now down to 46.5. By the time the remnants of Ivan have made its way to Tenn (and the national sports media gets ahold of it), look for the public to keep pushing the line down.

Wind will not be an issue, but rain will. I've always been of the opinion that rain helps totals to go over - more turnovers, slower reaction time by dbs having to adjust in the mud. This, combined with the fact that (1) both teams will commit themselves to stopping the others run and (2) both secondaries seriously lack experience, I think we're looking @ +55 points in the game.

BigSlick I think you are right about the rain. I'm about an hour west of Knoxville and have looked at the forecast all week. I can let you know closer to game time if anybody wants. Agree with the over play!
