Connacht 20-25 Llanelli Scarlets
Cardiff Blues 43-6 Neath/Swansea Ospreys
Edinburgh 3-41 Ulster

Apologies for being late updating the thread. Another winning weekend, but in truth, I forgot I had not updated under the excitement of the World Cup.

A strange weekend....I was miles away of the spread with Edinburgh, but the Blues trounced the Ospreys to land the big play of the weekend.

YTD :

11-4 (73%) +7.66 Units (+?766 Calculated to a ?100 Unit Stake)

Back in a few hours with this weekends picks. :)

Time to take eyes off the World Cup just for a few hours, while we try and build some funds through the Celtic League.

Neath/Swansea Ospreys vs Connacht

Opening with the live match on BBC Wales tonight between the Neath/Swansea Ospreys and Connacht. The Ospreys had a shock last week, when being hammered by the Blues, after looking good all season. They still have a wealth of talent in their backs, led by one of the best players not to be in the World Cup, Scott Gibbs, and can even afford to leave young starlet Gavin Henson on the bench.
Connacht are the side teams tend to under estimate, but after springing a shock on the Scarlets a few weeks ago, teams are unlikely to make the same mistake.
Knowing Ospreys coach Lyn Jones, he will be appalled by that showing in Cardiff last week, and will have fired up his team in readiness for a backlash here.

2 Points Ospreys (-7) at 5/6 with JackBrown

Ulster vs Cardiff Blues

I learnt a week or two ago, that although Ulster are strong at home, they do not hammer teams in the ground, and after beating the Warriors by only a few that night, I vowed to try and take them on at home, and I see a good opportunity tonight.
The Blues are gaining in confidence, and have some players returning from injury just in time for them to gain some momentum in the league. They will target a big game in Ulster tonight, after their hammering of the Ospreys last week.

1 Point Blues (+16) at 5/6 with Bet365

Games start in about a hour or so, and reminders that any American readers can play at Bet365.

Good Luck :)

1-1 tonight and 0-2 last week. Going through a sticky patch with the Celtic League. May well lay off the tournament for a while, as the whole league is dogged by injuries and international call ups.

When the quality players return, it will re assume respect, but at the moment the Celtic League is of poor quality.

Gwent Dragons 28-19 Connacht

I will step up my concentration in the Celtic League now, as players return from international duty, and the league begins to improve in quality.

Nice to get a winner on the board, as I feel I have been struggling a little lately to read the way the league is shaping out.

13-7 (65%) +5.32 Units (+?532 Calculated to a ?100 Unit Stake)

Back on Thursday-Friday. :)

Celtic Warriors 19-30 Edinburgh
Glasgow 18-31 Llanelli Scarlets

Apologies to anybody who missed out, as I was only able to post these shortly before kick-off.

Will bet these games with a lot more confidence these days, as all the top players are back with their clubs, which should give the league some much needed stability. I am hoping that compilers over estimate the damage the likes of Connacht and Gwent have done during the World Cup as these clubs were barely affected by call ups. Could well get some generous spreads involving these teams, and will be looking to cash in! Look out for the Irish provinces start to peak through the winter.

Saturday 29th November

The Neath/Swansea Ospreys were a team to back earlier in the season, when they looked one of the stronger teams competing in the Celtic League. They are a superbly coached tight unit, who have been hit by huge injury problems of late, paticularly in the forwards. That pack will be strengthened with the return of three Welsh internationals tomorrow, but one feels they still have a huge task in competing with Leinster.
Forget the Irish province early season form....they have won their last five games, and can recall the likes of O'Driscoll, Contepomi, Dempsey in the backs and another host of Irish internationals in the forwards. You put this team against a new Welsh province with only a handful of classy players, and you are looking at a mismatch.
Dont like backing teams conceding points on the road, but things should be straight forward tomorrow.

3 Points Leinster (-6) at 5/6 with StanJames

Neath/Swansea Ospreys 25-36 Leinster

A cracking 3-0 weekend, which sets us up nicely for the Heineken Cup which starts on Friday.

26-9 on the Heineken Cup last season, so a repeat of those numbers will do very nicely.

Great weekend crooky. Looking forward to another profitable Heineken Cup. Question for you - Where do the teams for the Heineken Cup come from? Are they pulled from the Celtic League and other leagues? Just a question from a rugby novice.

The Heineken Cup is a competition for the best club sides in Europe. The top three sides in Ireland, all five Welsh provinces (as it is their first season), the top six French sides, the top two Scottish sides and the top six English sides compete, along with the top two Italian teams.

The further a nations teams progress in the tournament, allows that nation to have more sides in the Heineken Cup the following year. For example, French sides have historically played well in Heineken Cup allowing six French teams to enter. Scotland and Italy have done little in the competiton so far, which means each nation only has two entrants.

Which teams from each nation actually qualify is dependant on how each team does in their own countries domestic leagues last season.

Hope that helps. :)

Thanks for taking the time to reply crooky. Sounds like an exciting tournament that brings together teams from all over Europe. I was confused because I saw teams listed from different leagues across Europe and could not figure out how they came together in one tournament. Best of luck as always.

By the way, I saw in a different thread of yours that some of your picks are emailed to some members of the forum. I was wondering if I could get on your list since I always have access to my email (through my cell phone) but not always to this site. In the past, I have missed some picks because I could not get on the internet for days at a time. That would be greatly appreciated. If not, I understand. If so, let me know and I will give you my email address.
