Rulebook, not a call thats made by judgment.

Sucks though IMO

I agree on rule...but my Dad is in AL Hall of Fame as official and he will tell you they have some discretion on THAT type of decision....and it is a trip to watch a game with him which I cherish:0074

The way it was explained there is zero discretion. The only thing they could have done was pick up the flag. If it stays he goes.

The thing about the ejection play is that the referee, in an attempt to defuse the situation, shoved the player. This is immediately after substantial contact between the two players, so its just reactionary for someone to try and take anothers hands off them.

Im not advocating the fact that Smith made contact with the official, but certainly understand why he did it with the amount of force the ref used.

not gonna argue BUT there is ALWAYS discretion

Just going by how it was explained my man as I am obviously not an "NFL" official. You may be right and if you are then it was explained wrong by the ref. Either way, the guy obviously wasnt going after the ref and if descretion isnt allowed then it should be.

did one of these asshole announcers say something about SD punting and "pinning them deep" before they just called a timeout and went for it on 4th and 1 from the 2?

what a joke!
