Yea, I know Ghost will have his thread next week, BUT, I could'nt help myself. There is a sparring video of Chavez and Vanes Martirosyan. Now I don't know if Chavez isn't that good or Vanes is outstanding, but Vanes looks like a monster. Beautiful combinations and counter punching. Chavez for his part looked slow and seemed to telegraph too much. Line leaking up on baby legend and I could not find a book anywhere in Vegas with lines. Well I only visited 5 shops but they account for about 25 books with the consolidations of casinos. Zbik's resume is not impressive far as I could see, and we know "son of legend" was very carefully taken by the hand to get this shot. Freddie Roach, who I respect for his blunt honestly, says little Chavez is READY. My only concern betting Zbik is Arum and Roach are behind Chavez, and that is a tough combination to beat. And fighting at home basically. This will most likely go to the cards, and that doesn't bode well for Zbik either.

Initially it looked liked the typical "orchestrated" contest. I don't use the term "fixed" as that would denote a criminal conspiracy, but if you put enough factors in place a certain result is almost assured. With his daddy carefully taking him by the hand, Roach training him, and Arum promoting, it looks too obvious. And if you, thongster, believe Zbik is a mook, then it may be all in place for baby legend to snatch a belt.

Article from Boxing News 24

Article from Boxing News 24

Dan Ambrose: It?s no secret that unbeaten Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (42-0-1, 30 KO?s) has been carefully groomed to get to the point where he is today in facing undefeated WBC middleweight champion Sebastian Zbik (30-0, 10 KO?s) next month on June 4th at the Staples Center, in Los Angeles, California.

This is a title opportunity that Chavez Jr. has gotten without having to take on a dangerous top contender like Marco Antonio Rubio, Paul Williams or Fernando Guerrero. All Chavez Jr. has had to do is beat a stack of 2nd tier middleweights and then step up to beat John Duddy and Billy Lyell and here Chavez Jr. is fighting for a title.

It?s been a shockingly easy ride for Chavez Jr. to get to this position because he hasn?t had to take a major risks to get to this shot at the World Boxing Council title. And that?s the whole problem. When you?ve been matched so carefully it doesn?t help with the growth. You are what you fight. And Chavez Jr. has been feasting on B level fighters for eight years now. On June 4th, Chavez Jr. faces a decent fighter in 29-year-old Zbik.

This is clearly the best fighter that Chavez Jr. has faced in his career and there?s a real danger here that the Chavez Jr. gravy train could be about to end. judging by how poor Chavez Jr. looked in his recent sparring session with Vanes Martirosyan, Chavez Jr. could be in a world of hurt with Zbik. This is going to be a really difficult fight for Chavez unless he can find a way to take Zbik out, and I doubt that. Zbik is a boxer/puncher with great technical skills, an excellent chin and decent power. Chavez Jr. is going to have to fight a really good fight if he wants to win this bout and move on to the big money fight against fellow Top Rank stablemate Miguel Cotto in September.

IMO thats the only thing that Chavez jr. has going for him...well, that and 3 extremely biased judges!

I'm afraid this could be enough, but the odds on Zbik definetely look tempting. The kid can box quite a bit!

Or maybe daddy Chavez will hire and seat a bunch of MS13 gang bangers ringside and let the Zbik camp know what to expect if little pumpkin baby legend gets beat up. Zbik goes home in a body bag.

Is something rotten in Denmark?

Is something rotten in Denmark?

After reading Teddy Atlas' interview regarding the Pac-man/Mosley farce, I am becoming more and more suspicious about this, another, Bob Arum affair. Lets face it, Pacquiao is slowly moving away from boxing into Filipino politics, so Arum needs another "golden goose"/cash cow guy. Could it be "son of legend"? This one has setup written all over it. I could be way off base here, but how can a guy not be skeptical when Arum, the master con artist/manipulator is involved? Plus daddy Chavez is also in the mix. Lets see what happens, but a felony, scorecard robbery is not out of the question. Zbik has got to stop this guy to win, IMHO.

From Gabriel Montoya at Maxboxing.com

From Gabriel Montoya at Maxboxing.com

The fight is for the WBC strap once earned and owned by linear middleweight champion Sergio Martinez, whose mandatory defense was due against Zbik in March. However, HBO rejected Zbik, deeming him unfit to be an opponent in a title fight on HBO. Seeing as how Martinez?s promoter Lou DiBella was not about to do what Top Rank had done with Chavez Jr. (financing an independent pay-per-view in order to keep that belt), the WBC stripped Martinez of it, installed him as ?Champion Emeritus? and made Zbik the new champion. Conveniently, Junior was already in place as the next mandatory despite no viable wins against top ten opponents at middleweight. In fact, Chavez Jr. has only three fights at middleweight, the aforementioned Duddy and Lyell fights and one against Troy Rowland, which was a ruled a no-contest in the wake of Chavez Jr. testing positive for a diuretic, illegal in Nevada. In the wake of Top Rank?s deal with rival network Showtime to air the last Manny Pacquiao fight, suddenly, Zbik was an acceptable fighter for HBO and they soon agreed to show the fight.

Apparently according to this article, Roach wasn't even aware of how Zbik came to be "champion" ! Anyone remember when Oscar "I'm too tired to fight anymore" Dela hoya "beat" Felix Strum? Total highway robbery, but his worship Oscar needed the belt so he could make millions losing to Hopkins. Same shit here. Chavez wins; fights Cotto, wins; fights Martinez when Martinez is half shot. All bullshit.

This is a pretty good updated site on Manny Pacquiao http://www.mp8.ph/ that also includes Alex Arriza clients like Chavez Jr.

And to see Chavez work out compared to Pac is like night and day. Seems like Chavez would rather sleep sleep till noon and almost has a reluctant heir about him regarding the paces Arriza puts him through.

He prob gets past Zbik though. Wonder who they will match with when he wins the title. Those should be very marginal defenses.

As for Vanes, he's way better than Chavez, plain and simple.

Hector Camacho's son was a lazy ass also. Had trouble making weight and was indifferent about shining as a boxer. Maybe the apple doesn't fall far from the tree, but sometimes it gets a little rotten just lying on the ground. Oh yea, and just so I don't get accused of past posting, my play is a parlay: Chavez Jr. and Froch. Can't post the price as Bodog won't line Chavez until Friday maybe. I use them right now. I know 5 Dimes has more options.

line

Line leaking up on baby legend, in spite of almost all the boxing websites making a point of saying the kid had it easy; is only getting ANY attention because of the name he inherited; and bookmakers taking advantage of public perception. Also, the fact that Zbik was "awarded" his "title" is also a little shady. As weepaul says, Chavez wins the first round 10-8 just because he listened to the refs instructions. Or Chavez throws a straight right hand, misses, but its ruled a knock down because it COULD have knocked Zbik down IF it connected.
