Baby legend and the magical scale....

Baby legend and the magical scale....

It started already! Little legend Chavez gets on the scale. First read is 160lbs 2oz. Baby legend gives the scale a dirty look and lo and behold, its 160lbs. on the button!!! So if Zbik hits him too hard, and he complains, does the ref deduct a point from Zbik?

Hector Camacho's son was a lazy ass also. Had trouble making weight and was indifferent about shining as a boxer. Maybe the apple doesn't fall far from the tree, but sometimes it gets a little rotten just lying on the ground. Oh yea, and just so I don't get accused of past posting, my play is a parlay: Chavez Jr. and Froch. Can't post the price as Bodog won't line Chavez until Friday maybe. I use them right now. I know 5 Dimes has more options.

Bob Arum strikes again! I would love to see the Bob Arum "bracket". I think he has one for all the fights he will promote and who will fight who when the guy that will generate the most money wins. Oh yea, Martinez will retire little legend, so we won't be seeing that one until Martinez is on life support. Arum is on Goggle right now searching for "boxers that are damaged goods".

Excerpt from Steve Kim article at Maxboxing....

Excerpt from Steve Kim article at Maxboxing....

Did Zbik, who fought as aggressively as he ever has, knowing that he was boxing on Chavez?s home canvas, fall prey to the same fate as another German seven years ago? You all remember what happened to Felix Sturm, who proved to be anything but a tune-up or just another guy with a paper belt (in this case, the WBO middleweight title) when imported to Las Vegas to serve as the foil to one Oscar De La Hoya in June of 2004, only to conclusively outfight and outbox the ?Golden Boy? over 12 rounds. Sturm ultimately became the victim of a scorecard that seemed predetermined and preordained as De La Hoya had already accepted the assignment of facing Bernard Hopkins a few months later.

There's more! Arum explains how the only way for fighters to really get a nice payday is PPV. Oh, yea Bob, how about you, you miserable prick? It isn't about YOU lining your pockets, is it now?

Arum does get his money but I think those 2 fights are not comparable. Sturm really did deserve to win, no question about, any way you slice it.

But while Zbik was accurate and landed many combinations, he was taking the majority of the real damage. He turned his back a few times and was ready to quit. He was really getting eaten up in the late rounds. Guy will be pissing blood for a month. The judges were actually fair, if not leaning Zbik's way in my view. I'm surprised we didn't get cards of 118-110 or 117-111 based on the bias I expected. But they put out honest cards and Chavez needed those last 3 rounds to win, and he got em.

I won't debate scoring as that could go on forever. I'm just turned off by what I feel have been a slew of "orchestrated" match ups. Every so often we get a fight where we are on the edge of our seats. Then we get a $69.99(HD) Mosley-Pacquiao farce. I just feel boxing could do with less smoke and mirrors and with more legitimate contests. Junior's next "opponent" will also be made to order. Mark my words.

No argument there. Sham mismatches kind of take the spirit out of the fight and sport. For example,When Pacquiao surprised everyone and beat De la hoya, that was one thing but since the whole world now understands that he is top of the heap these lesser fights are disappointing because we all know the outcome. And just because these fights would have been viable on paper before Pac reached his all World status - that doesn't fly anymore because we know better. If he can't get a mega bout ala Mayweather or Sergio (yikes) then let him fight the best young welters - Ortiz, Kell Brook - wow, welter is pretty barren right now isn't it - but Jr. middle is littered with reasonable fiights if PAC so desires.

As for Chavez, at least he had a competitive fight against a "real" guy. He's not the best but he is for real. Maravilla would be ridiculous but guys like Marco Antonio Rubio, Andy Lee, Nubuhiro Ishada, Peter Manfredo, Danny Jacobs are all reasonable and fan friendly fights. Good B.A.D. bouts.

And if he can hang around for a while, get him the Hassa Ram Dam's, Geale's,et al. He's 25 and will get better. With 3 amateur fights, he's done well. I like the kid. He's been built up but maybe it will be worth it.

He showed a lot of heart, true. I just watched him being spoon feed since day one so I guess that's why my nuts are twisted; and Bob Arum manipulating everything. OK bro, lets see what happens. I hope he turns into a top notch guy; gives us more to look forward too!!!
