Checking out of a hotel

Does anybody here do this? Why?

I have never checked out. I just leave. If something is wrong with the amount I get charged I call and straighten it out. I think maybe twice that has happened to me in my life.

i always check out. a few times i've done it via the tv, but usually i stop at the desk.

it lets them know when the room is available to be cleaned.

i think the only time i've been in a rush while leaving a hotel is when i was in vegas (multiple times) and was running late to catch my flight because i got on a hot streak and didn't want to leave.

I do, in the hopes someone cleans the room sooner for the next guest.

I leave them in the room on top of my tip.

I guess I do technically check out when I stay in Vegas because the night before I leave I see a host to take care of my room charges.

You guys bring up some good points so I'll make sure I check out using the TV in the future.

yeah, these days if i'm in vegas or another busy hotel, i'd just use the tv. but usually if you're checking out around 11 or noon, there's hardly anybody trying to check in that early, so no line at the desk. vegas is different... seems like there's pretty much always a line.
