i know lots of hicks who can say nuclear without losing their dialect. given the importance of the word - especially these days - it's not much to ask that he learn to say it correctly.

I think W does the nukular thing on purpose now.

When he first mentioned th eword in the speech he said "nukular". Several seconds later the word came up again and he said "nuclear" quite clearly.

Don't think that these politicians don't do some of these things on purpose. They think they can appeal to a greater mass if they ocasionally show traits like that.

Listen to clinton speaking in Arkansas and speaking at a U.N. communist meeting, different accent.

If she would sit down in middle of folks in upper deck no one would see her anyway. Many congressman invite guest. Mind Ron Kind invited a soldier from our area that was wounded and had served two terms in Iraq. He pointed him out to Bush when Bush was leaving the hall. Bush actually waved to him. Bush gets a A for that. The person I felt sorry for. Was young Lady who lost her husband in Iraq. She just looked like she wanted to cry. I thought they could have passed on that for her sake.

I could not imagine accepting an invitation like that You'd feel like such a sucker. Your loved one is dead, and there you are getting a patronizing standing ovation from a room full of people who never served and got deferments to avoid conflict. "Thanks sucker. Thanks for taking one for the team".

Thanks but no thanks for the meaningless applause.

smurphy -- i think it's really pathetic that you think someone is a sucker for having a family member willing to sacrifice their own life for our country.

Dawgball- I may be mistaken, but I believe Saul's "sucker" comment was referring to the point of view taken by those who order the wars but used deferments when they were called on to serve, not his own personal views.

no - i said i would feel like a sucker if i was paraded in front of a room full of people who've done everything possible to avoid duty for themselves and their own families all the while making the decisions to send others off to war - only to have them give a bunch of empty applause in my direction because i was willing to let my loved one take one for the team.

i wish i was naive enough to feel all fuzzy and patriotic about it, but the facts speak for themselves. i guess i'm greatful that there are still selfless people who are not bothered by the great divide.

the liberal creed...

""* No one who could be and isn't serving should speak out on Iraq;

* No one except women of child-bearing age should speak out on abortion;

* No one who isn't poor should speak out on welfare;

* No one who isn't in school should speak out on education;

* No one who isn't (I can't decide on this one between 'a criminal' and 'a victim of crime') should speak out on criminal justice""".....

be ashamed of having an opinion,chickenhawks....

one thing you can say about iraq....at least they aren`t stoning women and gibbeting homosexuals in the soccer stadium anymore....

all we opinionated cowards, i think, can agree on that point... :yup

It was very admirable of that widow to accept the invitation. God bless her. I couldn't possibly see myself showing up for such a condescending farce. Hey, that's just me.

Doin' great my man.

FTR- I agree with you. I would never allow myself to be used like that. If I hadn't seen how unhappy they looked I would have added 'but maybe it helped them deal with it somehow', but man...

"I could not imagine accepting an invitation like that You'd feel like such a sucker."

Believe it are not there are people that are proud to serve their country--and some families are proud of their children for serving--did you miss what the soilder wrote in his letter home before he died? Just maybe his family respects HIS point of view.

I have to believe that those parents that would would prefer their children head north(ala Haskel/Sheehan) rather than serve are a minority--fortunately.

""is someone going to read her tee shirt when the camera gleens past her sitting behind gary coleman and suddenly go "hey - she's right - people are dying and i'm not gonna stand for it anymore?"

i guess it depends on what your definition of "condescending farce" is....

which one is it?

governmental dignitaries of the united states honoring the spouse and parents of a fallen soldier for his service to our country....

or,

"ms. sheehan"...god bless her son casey (who`s probably rolling over in his grave)...

this moonbat who issued political threats toward diane feinstein if she didn`t vote sheehan`s preference on alito(sheehan described dianne feinstein as a "republican in democrat's clothing".....diane feinstein for god`s sake)........

and is just back from kissing anti-american thug hugo chavez` ass in venezuela.... just so she can heckle the president at the s.o.t.u. address?.....

you say farce?...

anybody seen my buddy smurph`s left lobe wandering around out there?....

(here it comes) :D ....easy,kimo sabe.....

i'm sorry, i've told you before that i dont speak spanish. You really need to sort your sentences out better for me to even understand them.

I was basically saying "why the hell not?" about Sheehan and her T-shirt because I see the whole State of the Union as a bit of a farce. ....Well, I guess that fits right in line with my viewpoint about fat ass hypocrite politicians applauding relatives of dead soldiers. ...Seems fairly consistent.

Or do I stutter?

one interesting note on the sheehan thing....maybe two.....

they also threw out a republican congressman`s wife for wearing an "i support the troops" tee shirt....

so,she wasn`t singled out unfairly...

smart move to get her out...even if she didn`t break the law...she was there to disrupt...get her out and apologize later...

the second point is about sheehan`s son.....he joined the army in 2000......there are stories about recruiters lying to him yada/yada....but he most certainly did anticipate combat when he re-enlisted in august 2003, after the iraq war had begun....

so he is absolutely a hero....and obviously didn`t feel as his mother does...

doesn`t mean she can`t act like she has the wattage of a small appliance bulb or hob nob with dictators....she does...and she can...

her son was a man....and made his own decisions....as he did when he re-enlisted...
