Leonard back in Toronto, leads Clippers past Raptors 112-92
December 11, 2019
By The Associated Press

TORONTO (AP) Kawhi Leonard scored 23 points in his return to Toronto, Lou Williams had 18 and the Clippers won their third straight game Wednesday, beating the slumping Raptors 112-92.

Maurice Harkless scored 14 points and Paul George had 13 as the Clippers evened their road record at 6-6.

Before the game, Leonard received his championship ring from the 2018-19 season, when he helped Toronto beat Golden State in six games for the franchise's first NBA title.

Clippers guard Patrick Beverley scored 11 points in 19 minutes before leaving in the third quarter because of a concussion. Beverley collided with Marc Gasol's shoulder as the Raptors center was setting a screen.

Pascal Siakam scored 24 points, Norman Powell had 22 and OG Anunoby 13 as the Raptors lost for the fourth time in five games and dropped their third straight at home. Toronto set a franchise record with nine straight home victories to begin the season.

LAKERS 96, MAGIC 87

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) - LeBron James had 25 points, 10 assists and 11 rebounds to help Los Angeles beat Orlando.

Anthony Davis had 16 points and 12 rebounds for the Lakers, who have won 13 of 14. Kentavious Caldwell-Pope added 15 points for Los Angeles.

Jonathan Isaac led Orlando with 19 points. Evan Fournier had 18 and Aaron Gordon finished with 14 points and 14 rebounds.

The Lakers weren't crisp offensively at the start of the game but didn't have to be. Los Angeles limited Orlando to a season-low first quarter shooting of 19% (4 of 21) and turned that into a 26-9 lead.

PACERS 122, CELTICS 117

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Malcolm Brogdon scored 29 points and Aaron Holiday scored 11 of his 18 points in the fourth quarter to help Indiana rally past Boston.

Indiana trailed 94-84 after three quarters but took the lead for good on the first of Holiday's two 3-pointers with 4:16 left.

Kemba Walker scored a season-high 44 points and had seven assists - not enough to extend the Celtics' four-game winning streak.

Indiana snapped a seven-game losing streak in the series - including Boston's first-round playoff sweep last season.

Domantas Sabonis flirted with a triple-double before finishing with 15 points, 14 rebounds and eight assists. Brogdon closed it out by making all six free throws in the final 17 seconds.

ROCKETS 116, CAVALIERS 110

CLEVELAND (AP) - James Harden scored 55 points - 20 in the fourth quarter - and Russell Westbrook added 23 points as Houston withstood an unexpected scare from Cleveland.

The free-falling Cavaliers have lost eight straight and 14 of 15.

Harden matched Kyrie Irving's arena record for points in a game, and his fourth with 50 or more this season bailed out the Rockets, who allowed the Cavs to score 24 straight points in the second half.

Cleveland was still up 108-107 when Harden, who came in leading the NBA in scoring at 38 points per game, dropped a floater in the lane. After a turnover by Cavs guard Jordan Clarkson, P.J. Tucker hit a 3-pointer from the corner and Clint Capela (13 rebounds) had a dunk following another Cleveland miscue.

The Cavs made three turnovers in the final minute.

HORNETS 113, NETS 108

NEW YORK (AP) - Devonte' Graham scored a career-high 40 points, and Charlotte rallied from a 20-point deficit to beat Brooklyn.

Graham had 27 points in the second half in Charlotte's second straight victory. Miles Bridges added 14 points.

Spencer Dinwiddie had 24 points and Jarrett Allen added 21 points and 10 rebounds for Brooklyn, who had their three-game winning streak snapped.

JAZZ 127, TIMBERWOLVES 116

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - Donovan Mitchell had 30 points and six assists, Joe Ingles pitched in a season-high 23 points and Utah dealt Minnesota its sixth straight loss.

Rudy Gobert added 20 points and 16 rebounds for the Jazz, who won for just the third time in nine games by taking over with a 38-24 advantage in the third quarter.

Jeff Teague scored 32 points, making all four of his 3-pointers and all six of his free throws, but the Timberwolves dropped their sixth consecutive home game and fell to 3-8 at Target Center this season.

Andrew Wiggins had 26 points, and Karl-Anthony Towns added 21 points and 11 rebounds for Minnesota.

BULLS 136, HAWKS 102

CHICAGO (AP) - Zach LaVine scored 35 points in three quarters, Lauri Markkanen added 22 and Chicago snapped a three-game losing streak with a victory over road-weary Atlanta.

LaVine, who sat out the final 14 minutes, was 12 for 15 from the field, including 7 for 7 from 3-point range.

Wendell Carter Jr. had 11 points and 10 rebounds and rookie Coby White had 19 points.

Trae Young had 15 points and 13 assists, Alex Len scored 17 points and rookie Cam Reddish added 16 for Atlanta, which has dropped two straight and 13 of 15.

GRIZZLIES 115, SUNS 108

PHOENIX (AP) - Dillon Brooks scored 27 points, Jaren Jackson Jr. added 24 and Memphis earned a win over Phoenix.

Memphis won two games in a row for the first time in nearly a month. Jackson shot 10 of 18 from the field, including 3 of 7 from 3-point range, and the Grizzlies improved to 6-0 when Brooks scores at least 20 points.

Frank Kaminsky III led the Suns with a season-high 24 points and Ricky Rubio tied a season-high with 22. Kelly Oubre Jr. added 14 points and 13 rebounds. Leading scorer Devin Booker had an off night with just 15 points on 6-of-17 shooting.

BUCKS 127, PELICANS 112

MILWAUKEE (AP) - Giannis Antetokounmpo sat out but Milwaukee kept on rolling, getting 29 points from Eric Bledsoe in a over the New Orleans that extended the Bucks' winning streak to 16 games.

The Bucks (22-3) tied the second-longest winning streak in franchise history and moved closer to the franchise record of 20, set during the team's 1970-71 championship season.

Antetokounmpo sat out with a right quad tendon injury, missing his first game this season.

Khris Middleton added 24 points for Milwaukee and Ersan Ilyasova had 18 points and nine rebounds. George Hill contributed 13 points off the bench.

New Orleans (6-19) lost its 10th straight game despite a season-high 31 points from J.J. Redick and 25 points and 10 rebounds from Brandon Ingram. Jrue Holiday had 21 points.

KINGS 94, THUNDER 93

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) - Bogdan Bogdanovic made a 3-pointer with 13.4 seconds remaining, and Sacramento overcame an 11-point deficit in the fourth quarter to beat Oklahoma City.

Both teams committed turnovers with the game tied in the final minute before Shai Gilgeous-Alexander hit two free throws to put the Thunder up 93-91 with 31.6 seconds left.

Bogdanovic got the ball outside the arc and paused as Oklahoma City defender Dennis Schroder went flying past him trying for a block. Bogdanovic then hit a 28-foot jumper to give Sacramento the lead.

Chris Paul missed a shot from the elbow for the Thunder as time expired.

Buddy Hield had eight of his 23 points in the fourth quarter for the Kings. Bogdanovic scored 17 and Marvin Bagley III added 11 points and six rebounds after missing the previous 22 games with a broken right thumb.

Schroder had 17 points to lead six Thunder players in double figures. Paul wasn't one of them. Oklahoma City's point guard had eight points, 12 assists and seven rebounds.

The Thunder had won three straight.

Armadillo: Thursday's six-pack

Too-early 2020 baseball over/under in totals:

? Astros 99.5

? Dodgers 98.5

? Twins 90.5

? Padres 84.5

? Giants 68.5

? Mariners/Royals 66.5

**********

Armadillo: Thursday's List of 13: Doing some thinking out loud??

13) Los Angeles Angels signed 3B Anthony Rendon to a 7-year, $245M contact Wednesday night; Angels have a potent lineup, but they still lack pitching.

12) Want to know why fantasy baseball is increasingly popular? I?ll repeat something that I posted yesterday; it tells a story of why it is difficult to be a fan of a small market team:

2020 Bronx Bombers:
? Gerrit Cole, $36M
? Giancarlo Stanton, $26M
? Masahiro Tanaka, $23M
? Aroldis Chapman $17.2M

That adds up to $101.5M??.for four guys.

Oakland A?s made the playoffs the last two years; their ENTIRE payroll last year?

$92,178,333

11) If you and I play checkers, and you start wth 12 checkers but I start with 24, then I?m going to win most of the time, even if you?re smarter than me.

Gerrit Cole is going to make $1,090,909 per start next year; Oakland?s five starting pitchers LY made a total of roughly $12,500,000 for the whole season.

10) So having your own fantasy team where there are no salaries and you compete against people you know eliminates a lot of that BS and makes the summer more fun. At least if you have a cruddy season, you can blame yourself, instead of a ridiculous system that rewards the teams with the most money to spend.

9) 84 basketball players left college early LY and declared for the NBA Draft; only 44 of them were taken in the draft.

8) College football stuff:
? Colorado State hired former BC coach Steve Addazio as its new football coach.
? UNLV hired Oregon OC Marcus Arroyo as its new football coach.
? Florida Atlantic hired former Florida State coach Willie Taggart.

7) Baseball stuff:
? Mets signed P Michael Wacha to a 1-year deal, $3M deal (with incentives).
? Dodgers signed P Blake Treinen for one year, $10M.
? Blue Jays gave P Tanner Roark $24M for two years.

6) Adam Jones signed an $8M deal to play baseball for the Orix Buffaloes in Japan; Jones has played 14 years in the majors, mostly with the Orioles.

5) I?d track the movement of college football coaches on here, but those guys are nomadic- they constantly change jobs, especially assistants. Coaches? wives must be experts at packing.

4) There have been 12 NBA games this season where a player had 20+ points and 20+ rebounds; Detroit?s Andre Drummond has five of those 12 games.

3) Diamondbacks/Padres will play two regular season games in Mexico City April 18-19; the first regular season MLB games in Mexico City. Games had previously been played in Monterrey.

2) Bad beat of the week: NBA?s Atlanta Hawks (+8.5) led Miami by 6 points with 0:59 left in regulation Tuesday night, but they didn?t cover. Seriously.

Miami scored the next 22 points and won by 14 in OT. It was the NBA?s widest margin of victory in an OT game since October 31, 2009, when Philadelphia beat the Knicks, 141-127.

1) Good trivia; Denver rookie QB Drew Lock plays against the Chiefs this week; Lock?s dad Andy was the starting right guard for the Missouri Tigers in 1989, when KC coach Andy Reid was his offensive line coach. 30 years later, they cross paths again.

Top Game - Blazers at Nuggets (-6/213), 10:40 p.m.

On Tuesday night, all was right with the Trail Blazers again.

Damian Lillard hit eight 3-pointers, Hassan Whiteside broke off a double-double with five blocks and Portland was so impressive that extended garbage time ensued in a 115-87 rout. Unfortunately, the Knicks can only come through town once and they still woke up this morning as both a last-place team and the NBA?s biggest disappointment.

Portland (10-15 SU, 11-14 ATS) still has time on its side, but must start getting its act together in piling up wins to avoid missing the playoffs for the first time since 2013, head coach Terry Stotts? inaugural season at the helm. The Blazers have incredibly put together winning streaks only twice this season and have dropped eight of their last 10 road games. They?ve only defeated a single team with a winning record outside of Portland and are down three pieces who would ordinarily be in the rotation. Center Jusuf Nurkic is still a few months from returning from compound fractures of both his fibula and tibia in his left leg, forward Zack Collins is out until March after suffering a torn labrum and wing Rodney Hood ruptured his Achilles last Friday, adding to the doomed feeling around the group.

Talk of finding a way to add Portland native Kevin Love has begun making the rounds as a franchise that entered the season with aspirations of taking advantage of Golden State?s demise looks to reverse course from the sea of nowhere if appears headed towards. Carmelo Anthony has already had his contract guaranteed after providing a boost, so the Blazers have already proven willing to do just about anything to get on track.

They don?t play again until visiting Phoenix on Monday and then return home to start a four-game homestand played exclusively against teams with losing records, so this is the beginning of a crucial stretch as they attempt climb back towards .500. As things stand entering Thursday?s action, they?re just one game behind the playoff pace behind a pack featuring the Jazz, Thunder and Kings.

Less than five full games separate the entire Northwest Division, which continues to be led by the Nuggets in spite of their season-worst three-game losing streak. Denver (14-8, 10-11-1) has actually dropped five of six, beating only the Knicks on an East coast trip they returned from following a disappointing 97-92 Tuesday night loss in Philadelphia. Despite a strong start, losing Jamal Murray to a trunk contusion after colliding with fellow point guard Ben Simmons in the opening quarter. X-rays came back as hoped for, but it remains to be seen whether he plays here.

Paul Millsap is also questionable with a foot issue, which could lead to more minutes for rookie forward Michael Porter, Jr., who got early time against the 76ers as Michael Malone seeks to spark a slumping offense. Jokic is averaging 16 points and 10 rebounds, numbers more on par with what he did in his second season than what we?ve grown accustomed to seeing over the previous two as he?s grown into an MVP candidate. Jokic has averaged 15.6 points while shooting 46.6 percent over the last 10 games and is in a 4-for-26 slump from 3-point range (15.3 percent). Getting him going is crucial if the Nuggets are to live up to preseason expectations. They lead the league in fewest points allowed per game this season but have only topped 102 points themselves once in their last six games. Not surprisingly, the ?under? is 5-1 over that stretch.

The Nuggets are perfect against Northwest Division opposition, while Portland is 2-2 in such games. Rebounding is likely to play a major role since Denver is 8-2 when winning the glass and the Blazers are 4-13 when outrebounded, so it?s crucial that Whiteside stay out of foul trouble against All-Star Nikola Jokic for the Blazers to hang around and pull off an upset. Skal Labissiere, who has been getting the bulk of the minutes as the primary reserve center, is banged up and would require Stotts to go small with Mario Hezonja and rookie Nassir Little among his limited frontcourt options.

Denver won at Portland 108-100 in the season opener on Oct. 23, capitalizing on knocking down 18 3-pointers, the most in series history. It gave the Nuggets a small measure of revenge after losing last May?s Western Conference semifinal series upon fumbling Games 6 and 7. Jokic scored 16 points in the fourth quarter. He hasn?t scored 16 points in a whole game in seven of the last 11, though he?s starting to show signs of coming out of his slump and did deliver 11 assists against Philly, his second-largest total of the season.

This will be Anthony?s first trip in to Denver with the Blazers and will mark only the third time he faces the team that drafted him while suited up for a conference rival. Anthony was 0-2 at Pepsi Center with OKC in ?17-?18. After a hot start, Anthony is shooting just 33 percent in December, averaging 13.8 points. Including the postseason, the Blazers have won just two of their last nine in Denver, which includes an 0-7 regular-season run. The Blazers' last win in the Mile High city outside of their most recent playoff series came in OT back in the '16-'17 season opener.

Best of the Rest

76ers (-1/210) at Celtics, 8:10 p.m. ET:
Boston lost a rollercoaster ride of a game in Indiana on Wednesday, falling victim to the absence of Marcus Smart (eye infection) in addition to Gordon Hayward exiting early after being struck in the face. The Celtics hope both can return and help the team improve to 11-0 at TD Garden, but Hayward reported feeling dizzy after being struck on the nose by Doug McDermott, so he'll have to pass concussion protocol. The 76ers won the season opener 107-93 by holding Kemba Walker to 4-for-18 shooting but he comes off a 44-point outburst in Indy and is looking increasingly comfortable with his role in Boston. Philadelphia is just 5-7 SU on the road and 2-5 ATS in a favorite's role away from home, which is what it would currently close as unless late money comes in on the Celtics, which is possible if the injury situation improves in their favor.

Cavs at Spurs (-11.5/219.5), 8:40 p.m. ET:
Cleveland stunningly had the Rockets on the ropes in the fourth quarter of a 116-110 Wednesday night loss and fumbled away the game down the stretch, so an unhappy young team will take the floor at AT&T Center for the second of a back-to-back. The Cavs are 1-2 when playing on the second night in succession, absorbing blowout losses vs. the Knicks (123-105) and 76ers (141-94) on the road while beating the Blazers at home. Cleveland has dropped eight straight and 14 of 15. San Antonio is looking to match its season-long by winning a third straight game and will be playing for just the third time since Dec. 1 allowing them to get healthy and put in some much-needed practice work. The Spurs have won six straight in the series but are just 1-1 SU as a double-digit favorite this season, failing to cover either time.

Mavs (-5.5/220.5) vs. Pistons, 9:10 p.m. ET:
This matchup is being played inside Mexico City Arena, which opened in 2012 and has hosted a number of games, most recently last December 13 in a 97-91 Orlando win over the Bulls. Altitude is a varaible, but both teams have had a number of days off entering this one. The Mavs come in off their first loss since Nov. 26, falling late against Sacramento in a home upset. Detroit has won four of five and is looking for its first three-game winning streak of the season after Derrick Rose's heroics helped win in New Orleans on Monday night. The Spurs and Suns will come into town and play on Saturday.

Joel Embiid responds to criticism to lead 76ers past Celtics
December 12, 2019
By The Associated Press

BOSTON (AP) Joel Embiid responded to criticism from Shaquille O'Neal and Charles Barkley to score a season-high 38 points and add 13 rebounds in the Philadelphia 76ers 115-109 victory over the Boston Celtics on Thursday night.

Embiid scored 16 points in the fourth quarter, hitting five of six free throws in the final 26 seconds to hold off Boston's last charge. With Philadelphia leading by four in the final 15 seconds, he blocked Daniel Theis' shot to help clinch it.

Earlier in the week, Barkley said Embiid is the toughest matchup in the league, but he doesn't take advantage of it. O'Neal said on the TNT broadcast that Embiid shouldn't settle for 22 points a game, his current average, but should aim for more like 28 or 30.

Tobias Harris had 23 points, eight rebounds and seven assists for the Sixers. They who won their fourth straight eighth in nine tries.

Kemba Walker scored 29 points for Boston, which lost at home for the first time all season. Enes Kanter added 20 points and nine rebounds, and Gordon Hayward scored 19 points.

MAVERICKS 122, PISTONS 111

MEXICO CITY (AP) - Luka Doncic scored 41 points and had his eighth triple-double of the season, Seth Curry added a season-high 30 points and Dallas beat Detroit Pistons in the opener of the NBA Mexico Games.

Doncic finished with 12 rebounds and 11 assists for the Mavericks. They are 17-7, their best 24-game start since posting the same mark at this point of the 2014-15 season.

Andre Drummond led the Pistons with 23 points and 15 rebounds.

CAVALIERS 117, SPUTS 109, OT

SAN ANTONIO (AP) - Kevin Love hit a tying 3-pointer in the final seconds of regulation and finished with 30 points and 17 rebounds as Cleveland beat San Antonio to snap an eight-game losing streak.

Love had 10 points in the fourth quarter and OT to help Cleveland win for the first time since Nov. 23 against Portland.

DeMar DeRozan had 21 points for the Spurs.

Friday?s 6-pack

Too-early 2020 baseball over/under in totals:

? Mariners 66.5

? Cardinals 88.5

? Rays 92.5

? Rangers 75.5

? Blue Jays 73.5

? Nationals 89.5

Quote of the Day:
?The big lesson in life?is never be scared of anyone or anything.?
Frank Sinatra; Thursday would?ve been his 104th birthday

Friday?s quiz
Before this season, who was the only Baltimore Ravens? QB to throw 30+ TD passes in a season?

Thursday?s quiz
Lamar Jackson played his college football at Louisville.

Wednesday?s quiz
Steve Spurrier coached the Washington Redskins for two seasons.

**********************

Friday?s list of 13: Random stuff with weekend here??..

13) This year, if your college basketball team is making 33.3% of their 3?s, they?re 156th in country. Last year, teams that shot 33.3% on the arc were 225th.

Moving the arc back has created more missed shots; I?m wondering if more long rebounds has resulted in more fast breaks going the other way.

12) Florida Atlantic hired Willie Taggart as its new football coach; FAU will be his 5th head coaching job in 11 years, making him the Larry Brown of college football.

2010-12: Western Kentucky: 16-20, 13-11 Sun Belt
2013-16: South Florida: 24-25, 18-14 AAC
2017: Oregon 7-5, 4-5 Pac-12
2018-19: Florida State 9-12, 6-9 ACC

Total: 56-62, 44-42 conference

11) Apparently Dallas Mavericks? star Luke Doncic is the best player in the NBA who doesn?t have a shoe contract, which means his bank account will get a lot bigger fairly soon, as all the sneaker companies try to sign him up.

10) Home teams won the first ten Big 14 conference games so far this season; Michigan looked like a damn good team until they went to Louisville/Illinois.

9) The more I think about it, the more I like the 0:08 half court rule that the NBA has; makes a team get into motion a little quicker, not just walk the ball up the court.

8) I?m mystified that Harold Baines is in the Hall of Fame, but Dale Murphy isn?t.

7) Baseball stuff:
? Mets signed P Rick Porcello to a 1-year, $10M contract.
? Bronx re-signed OF Brett Gardner to a 1-year, $12.5m deal.

6) It is December 13 and Yale has already played four OT games this season, winning three of them. Bulldogs won their last six games overall, are 9-3 vs schedule #83.

5) Baseball will have some rules changes this year; a big one for September is the elimination of the 40-man roster. Rosters will be capped at 28 in September.

4) Another rule change will be that relievers having to face 3+ hitters in an appearance; it?ll reduce the often-tedious L-R-L pitching changes that stretch out the end of games.

In exchange for that, rosters all season increase from 25 to 26 players.

3) Handicapping bowl games can be dicey; you don?t know how excited a team or its fans are about their particular matchup. Iowa State sold out of its allotment of tickets for the Camping World Bowl against Notre Dame; safe to say that people in Ames are excited about this game.

2) NBA is putting a G-League team in Mexico City, starting next season. Very high altitude in Mexico City; the Nuggets don?t have a G-League affiliate yet. Maybe they do now.

1) Ravens 42, Jets 21
? Baltimore wins the AFC North.
? Lamar Jackson completed 15 passes, five of them for TD?s.
? Only 8 of Ravens? 59 plays came on third down.
? Jets scored a TD on aa blocked punt.

Friday's Tip Sheet
Kevin Rogers

Lakers at Heat ? 7:05 PM EST

LeBron James and Anthony Davis have turned into the top duo in the NBA as the Lakers (22-3 SU, 16-9 ATS) share the best record in the league with the Bucks. Davis is averaging 27.2 points per game and James is putting up 25.8 points per game, making them the only two teammates in the NBA to each average at least 25 points a contest.

The Lakers improved to 12-1 on the road following Wednesday?s 96-87 victory over the Magic as 8 ?-point road favorites. Los Angeles built a 23-point advantage before Orlando tied the game in the second half, but the Lakers pulled away for its 12th consecutive away victory. Interestingly enough, the Lakers have yet to lose a game away from Staples Center as their only ?road? loss came to the Clippers in the season opener.

The Heat (18-6 SU, 15-8-1 ATS) have yet to drop a game at American Airlines Arena this season by racking up an 11-0 home mark. The latest triumph came in comeback fashion on Tuesday as Miami knocked down a pair of three-pointers in the final minute to force overtime against Atlanta. The Heat scored the first 16 points of overtime to stun the Hawks, 135-121 and pick up the cover as eight-point favorites. Both Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo registered triple-doubles for the Heat, who have defeated only one team at home with a winning record this season (Houston on November 3).

The Lakers cruised past the Heat at Staples Center on November 8 in a 95-80 rout as eight-point favorites. The 80-point output was the lowest for Miami on the season, as the Heat were limited to 34 points in the second half. The Lakers limited the Heat to 6-of-35 shooting from three-point range, while Davis and James combined to score 51 points in the win. Miami is currently on an 8-1 run to the UNDER, while Los Angeles is 7-3 to the UNDER in the past 10 games.

Rockets at Magic ? 7:05 PM EST

Houston is in a dogfight for the top spot in the Southwest division alongside surging Dallas as the Rockets (16-8 SU, 11-13 ATS) wrap up their mini two-game road swing. The Rockets failed to cover as a double-digit favorite for the third consecutive game, but Houston rallied past Cleveland on Wednesday, 116-110 to bounce back from a buzzer-beating loss to Sacramento. James Harden continued his scoring barrage by putting up 55 points, including hitting 10 three-pointers to mark the fourth time this season he has scored at least 50 points.

The Magic (11-13 SU, 10-13-1 ATS) are in the midst of a rough three-game stretch against three of the top teams in the league. Orlando dropped a 110-101 decision at Milwaukee on Monday night, but cashed as 13-point underdogs for its fourth consecutive cover. The Magic saw that ATS hot streak come to an end in Wednesday?s 96-87 setback to the Lakers as Orlando scored only nine points in the opening quarter. Orlando was limited to below 100 points for the 12th time this season, which is the most in the league so far.

It?s been a tough go for the Magic in the role of a home underdog, who has compiled a 1-4 SU/ATS mark in five opportunities, while scoring 91 points or less in all four losses. The Rockets are 8-12 ATS this season in the favorite role, although five of those non-covers have come as double-digit chalk. Houston owns a 2-6 ATS ledger as a road favorite, but have won in two of its past three visits at Orlando dating back to 2017.

Warriors at Jazz ? 9:05 PM EST

It?s not even mid-December, but Utah (14-11 SU, 10-15 ATS) seeks its third win already this season against Golden State (5-21 SU, 11-15 ATS). The Jazz went into Chase Center on November 11 and knocked off the Warriors, 122-108 as eight-point road favorites, led by Rudy Gobert?s 25 points on an efficient 11-of-12 shooting from the floor. Utah edged Golden State at home 11 days later as hefty 16-point favorites in a 113-109 triumph, marking the first cover for the Warriors against the Jazz in eight meetings.

The Jazz have dropped six of their last nine games, but are coming off a victory at Minnesota on Wednesday, 127-116 as slim one-point road underdogs. Donovan Mitchell paced the Jazz with 30 points, as Utah returns home seeking consecutive wins for the first time since November 22 and 23. Utah is currently on a 4-1 run to the OVER in its past five games played in Salt Lake City, while allowing at least 109 points in five of its past six home contests.

Golden State continues its miserable season due to a litany of injuries, but the Warriors showed some moxie in Wednesday?s overtime setback to the Knicks. Steve Kerr?s team erased a 20-point third quarter deficit to force the extra session, but Golden State fell short as five-point favorites, 124-122 to fall to 2-9 the last 11 games with the only two wins coming against Chicago in this stretch. The Warriors have put together a 4-3 ATS record as a double-digit underdog this season, while the Jazz are 5-8 ATS in their last 13 opportunities in the favorite role.

Clippers at Timberwolves ? 9:35 PM EST

Los Angeles (19-7 SU, 15-11 ATS) continues its six-game road trip as the Clippers remain 3 ? games behind the Lakers for the top spot in the Pacific division. Kawhi Leonard shined in his return to Toronto on Wednesday night as the Clippers dominated the defending champion Raptors, 112-92 to cash easily as 2 ?-point favorites. Leonard was one of seven Clippers to score in double-figures with 23 points, while Paul George struggled from downtown by hitting only 2-of-12 shots from three-point range.

The Clippers seek their fourth straight victory as L.A. has done a better job of covering on the road recently. Doc Rivers? club began the season with a dreadful 2-7 ATS mark away from Staples Center, but the Clips have cashed three in a row on the highway, while allowing under 100 points in consecutive games for the second time in 2019.

The Timberwolves (10-14 SU, 9-14-1 ATS) have not had a December to remember as Minnesota has lost all six games this month. Minnesota was off to a promising start, but their defensive numbers have been horrific of late by allowing at least 115 points in six straight games and yielding 125 or more in each of the past four contests. The OVER has hit in five consecutive affairs for Minnesota, as the Wolves have slumped to a 3-8 record at Target Center with the last home victory coming on November 13 against San Antonio.

Davis, James lead Lakers to a 113-110 win over Heat
December 13, 2019
By The Associated Press

MIAMI (AP) Anthony Davis scored 33 points, LeBron James had 28 while coming within a rebound of a triple-double and the Los Angeles Lakers held off the Miami Heat 113-110 on Friday night.

James had 12 assists and nine rebounds and Davis grabbed 10 rebounds for the Lakers. They improved to 23-3, extended the second-longest road winning streak in franchise history to 13 games and rallied from a double-digit deficit to win for the eighth time already this season.

They also dealt Miami its first home loss of the season, after an 11-0 start.

Jimmy Butler led Miami with 23 points, Derrick Jones Jr. had 17, Kendrick Nunn added 16 and Kelly Olynyk had 15. Bam Adebayo had 12 points and 12 rebounds,

The Lakers outrebounded Miami 50-34, and the last of those was the biggest. Kentavious Caldwell-Pope missed a free throw with 8 seconds left to keep the Heat within two, but Miami couldn't get the rebound. Caldwell-Pope went back to the line with 4.2 seconds left, made one of two again and the Lakers' lead was pushed to three.

Butler took the last shot for Miami, a 3-pointer with about a second left. It hit the rim and bounced off, the Heat argued that he was fouled to no avail, and the Lakers survived in James' lone trip this season to the city where he won championships in 2012 and 2013.

CLIPPERS 124, TIMBERWOLVES 117

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - Paul George scored 46 points, Kawhi Leonard had 42 and Los Angeles held on to beat Minnesota for its fourth consecutive victory.

It was the highest combined scoring output of the season for the Clippers' new superstar duo. Leonard and George's previous high came Dec. 1 when they combined for 65 points against Washington. They became the first set of teammates in Clippers' history to each score 40 points. It was the 21st time in NBA history it has happened.

Karl-Anthony Towns had 39 points and 12 rebounds for Minnesota, which lost its seventh in a row. Towns had 14 points, including a 4-point play, in a 22-6 fourth-quarter run that trimmed a 21-point Los Angeles lead to five.

Andrew Wiggins added 34 points for the Timberwolves.

ROCKETS 130, MAGIC 107

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) - James Harden scored 54 points, hitting 10 of 15 3-pointers and 19 of 31 shots overall, in Houston's win over Orlando.

Harden scored 50 or more for the fifth time this season and the fourth time in the last seven games. He also had seven assists, five rebounds and two steals in 36 minutes.

Russell Westbrook added 23 points for Houston. The Rockets were 22 of 39 from 3-point range.

The Rockets pulled away in the second quarter, with Harden scoring 18 points, including Houston's last 11 for a 59-49 lead.

Evan Fournier led Orlando with 27 points. Aaron Gordon added 21. The Magic have lost three straight after winning four in a row.

76ERS 116, PELICANS 109

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Tobias Harris scored 31 points, Ben Simmons had 24 points and 11 assists, and Philadelphia survived a late scare and beat New Orleans.

Joel Embiid finished with 24 points and 11 rebounds in Philadelphia's fifth straight victory. It was also the 14th consecutive home victory for the 76ers, the franchise's longest streak to start a season since winning 22 straight home games in their NBA championship season in 1966-67.

Brandon Ingram scored 32 points and J.J. Redick had 19 for the Pelicans, who have lost 11 in a row.

PACERS 110, HAWKS 100

ATLANTA (AP) - Malcolm Brogdon had 19 points and 12 assists, Domantas Sabonis had 12 points and 14 rebounds, and Indiana beat Atlanta.

T.J. Warren scored 18 points as all five Indiana starters finished in double figures.

The Pacers improved to 5-2 this month and 17-9 overall. They are eight games over .500 for the first time this season.

Trae Young had 23 points, but missed 21 of 30 shots from the field, as Atlanta lost for the 14th time in 16 games. DeAndre Hunter scored 21 and Jabari Parker 20 for the Hawks.

HORNETS 83, BULLS 73

CHICAGO (AP) - Devonte' Graham scored 16 points, Miles Bridges and P.J. Washington each had 13 and Charlotte bounced back after squandering an early 15-point lead, beating Chicago for its third straight win.

Zach LaVine and Ryan Arcidiacono each had 12 points, Thaddeus Young and Lauri Markkanen added 10 apiece as Chicago lost for the fourth time in five games.

It was the lowest offensive output of the season for both teams.

Charlotte shot 38% from the floor, but the Bulls were even worse at 30% in a sloppy game between sub-.500 teams. Bismack Biyombo had 12 points for the Hornets.

BUCKS 127, GRIZZLIES 114

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - Giannis Antetokounmpo scored 17 of his 37 points in the fourth quarter to help Milwaukee pull away for its 17th straight victory.

The Bucks overcome Jaren Jackson Jr.'s career-high 43 points. He scored 26 in the third quarter to give Memphis a 95-90 lead heading into the fourth. But Milwaukee outscored Memphis 37-19 in the final period to improve its record to 23-3, keeping pace with the Los Angeles Lakers for the best in the league.

The 17-game winning streak is second-longest in franchise history, trailing only a 20-game run in the 1970-71 season.

Antetokounmpo converted 12 of 23 shots and had 11 rebounds for Milwaukee, which has not lost since Nov. 8 against Utah. Khris Middleton added 26 points for the Bucks, while Eric Bledsoe finished with 12 before leaving in the third quarter with an injury.

Dillon Brooks had 19 points for Memphis, while Jae Crowder had 15 points.

Memphis played without star rookie Ja Morant, who took the night off for injury maintenance on a bad back.

JAZZ 114, WARRIORS 106

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Bojan Bogdanovic hit a career-high eight 3-pointers and scored 32 points and Donovan Mitchell added 28 points in Utah's win over Golden State.

Rudy Gobert added 15 points and 15 rebounds for the Jazz. Joe Ingles chipped in 13 points and eight assists, and Royce O'Neale added 14 points.

Alec Burks scored 24 points and Damion Lee added 21 for the Warriors. D'Angelo Russell added 18 points.

Golden State lost despite outscoring Utah 52-12 in bench points.

KNICKS 103, KINGS 101

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) - Elfrid Payton had seven of his 16 points in the fourth quarter, Marcus Morris scored off an offensive rebound with 9.1 seconds left and New York rallied from 16 down to beat Sacramento.

Julius Randle had 24 points and nine rebounds, Mitchell Robinson added 14 points and nine boards, and Damyean Dotson scored 11 points. The Knicks (6-20) won back-to-back games for the first time this season.

Buddy Hield scored 34 points and had a career-high 11 rebounds for Sacramento. Harrison Barnes had 18 points and Nemanja Bjelica added 12 points and seven assists. The Kings had won their previous three.

Spurs outlast Suns in Mexico City in record 4th straight OT
December 14, 2019
By The Associated Press

MEXICO CITY (AP) Patty Milly made a jumper from the free throw line with 0.3 seconds left in the San Antonio Spurs' record-setting fourth consecutive overtime game, and they outlasted the Phoenix Suns 121-119 on Saturday.

The NBA record book shows 20 instances of teams playing three straight overtime games - but never four straight, like the Spurs have. They're 3-1 in those games, their best stretch since opening the season 4-1.

DeMar DeRozan pulled the Spurs even with a drive and fling - after a foul by Mikal Bridges - down the right side of the lane, but missed the free throw. The ball went out of bounds on a scramble after the missed free throw, and San Antonio kept the ball after a replay review.

Phoenix, with star guard Devin Booker sitting out because of a sore forearm, overcame a late seven-point deficit to force overtime on Kelly Oubre Jr.'s 3-pointer from the corner in the final seconds.

Mills led the Spurs with 26 points. DeRozan, LaMarcus Aldridge and Dejounte Murray each added 18 for San Antonio, and Lonnie Walker IV had 16 on his 21st birthday.

Ricky Rubio had 25 points and 13 assists for Phoenix. Frank Kaminsky added 22, and Oubre had 17.

BUCKS 125, CAVALIES 108

MILWAUKEE (AP) - Giannis Antetokounmpo scored 29 points and Khris Middleton had 24 to lead Milwaukee to its 18th consecutive victory.

The Bucks have won 22 of their last 23 and improved to 24-3, a half-game ahead of the idle Los Angeles Lakers for the best record in the league. The Bucks have not lost since Nov. 8 at Utah.

The streak is the second longest in franchise history. The Bucks won 20 consecutive games in the 1970-71 season on the way to winning their lone NBA championship.

Kevin Porter Jr. had 15 points and Jordan Clarkson scored 13 for Cleveland.

HEAT 122, MAVERICKS 118, OT

DALLAS (AP) - Luka Doncic left early with a sprained ankle and Dallas rallied from 24 points down without itsr young star before falling to Miami in overtime.

Doncic's right foot landed on the foot of Heat guard Kendrick Nunn on a drive less than two minutes into the game.

Bam Adebayo put Miami in front for good on a put-back dunk with 1:15 remaining in overtime and finished with 18 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists for his second triple-double in three games.

Without Doncic, Tim Hardaway Jr. scored 18 of his 28 points in the second half to help Dallas rally, but was shut out in overtime. Kristaps Porzingis, the other half of Dallas' star European pairing with Doncic, had 22 points and 14 rebounds but couldn't convert on two possessions late in the extra period.

Butler led Miami with 27 points. They were playing a night after a 113-110 loss to LeBron James and the Lakers at home.

RAPTORS 110, NETS 102

TORONTO (AP) - Pascal Siakam scored 30 points, Marc Gasol set season highs with 17 points and 15 rebounds and Toronto beat Brooklyn to snap a three-game home losing streak.

Norman Powell fouled out with 25 points and Kyle Lowry had 17 to help the Raptors win their ninth straight home game against the Nets and beat Brooklyn for the 16th time in 17 meetings.

Serge Ibaka had 12 points and 12 rebounds as Toronto extended an NBA record by winning its 34th straight at home against a division foe. The Raptors are unbeaten at home against Atlantic Division opponents since a Nov. 10, 2015, loss to the New York Knicks.

Spencer Dinwiddie scored 26 points for Brooklyn.

PISTONS 115, ROCKETS 107

HOUSTON (AP) - Luke Kennard scored 22 points, Derrick Rose added 20 off the bench and Detroit beat Houston.

The Pistons didn't trail in the last two quarters and were up by double figures for most of the second half.

James Harden led the Rockets with 39 points after two straight 50-point games, but it wasn't enough to keep Houston's winning streak going on a night Russell Westbrook sat out to rest. Harden played 38 1/2 minutes, but was taken out with 1:23 left and didn't return.

Rose had 12 assists, Bruce Brown had 16 points and 10 rebounds and Markieff Morris added 15 points to help the Pistons win for the third time in four games.

BULLS 109, CLIPPERS 106

CHICAGO (AP) - Zach LaVine scored 31 points and converted a decisive three-point play with 2 seconds left in Chicago's victory over short-handed and weary Los Angeles.

The Clippers' Paul George missed a 3-pointer at the buzzer.

Lauri Markkanen had 13 points and 17 rebounds, Thaddeus Young scored 17 points, and Denzel Valentine had 16 for the Bulls.

Harrell had 30 points and George had 27 for Los Angeles, playing for the third time in four days at the end of a six-game trip. The Clippers were without Kawhi Leonard (injury management, left knee soreness), Lou Williams (right calf), Patrick Beverly (concussion) and JaMychal Green (tailbone contusion).

NUGGETS 110, THUNDER 102

DENVER (AP) - Nikola Jokic had 28 points, 14 rebounds and 12 assists for his fourth triple-double of the season, leading Denver past Oklahoma City.

Jokic has 32nd regular-season triple-doubles to tie Rajon Rondo for 11th on the career list.

Will Barton added 18 points and Jamal Murray had 14 to help the Nuggets beat the Thunder for the seventh straight time. Dennis Schroder had 22 points to lead the Thunder.

GRIZZLIES 128, WIZARDS 111

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - Dillon Brooks scored 27 points, rookie Brandon Clarke added 25 and Memphis sent Washington to its fourth straight loss.

Ja Morant added 18 points and Jaren Jackson Jr. had 16 to help the Grizzlies win for the third time in the last four. Bradley Beal led the Wizards with 29 points, but was 8 of 23 from the field.
