Big Monday Tip Sheet
David Schwab

The third week of January kicks things off with a trio of great matchups this Monday night across the ACC, Big Ten and Big 12. As part of ESPN?s Big Monday, Syracuse will be on the road against Duke as the first featured game of the night.

A little later on FOX Sports 1, Wisconsin takes on Maryland in College Park. The night?s action on ESPN wraps up with Texas squaring off against Kansas at Allen Fieldhouse.

Syracuse Orange at No. 1 Duke Blue Devils (ESPN, 7:00 p.m. ET)

Opening Odds: No Overnight

Betting Matchup

Syracuse is coming off Saturday?s 73-59 loss to Georgia tech as a nine-point home favorite. This snapped a four-game winning streak both straight-up and against the spread. The total went OVER 129 points in that loss after staying UNDER in nine of its previous 11 games. The Orange are 11-5 SU and 8-8 ATS overall with a 2-1 record (SU and ATS) in early ACC play. Syracuse is averaging 70.2 points per game while holding opposing teams to 61.7 PPG.

The Blue Devils squeezed past Florida State 80-78 with a last-second three-point shot on Saturday, but the big story for Monday night could be the playing status of freshman phenom Zion Williamson. He missed the second half of that game due to an eye injury. Duke failed to cover against the Seminoles as a 7 ?-point road favorite and the total ended as a PUSH on a closing line of 158 points. This was the first time Duke (14-1 SU, 10-5 ATS) failed to cover in its last six games.

Betting Trends

-- The Orange are 6-2 ATS in their last eight road games and the total has gone OVER in five of their last six Monday games.

-- The Blue Devils have gone 5-1 ATS in their last six games on Monday and the total has stayed UNDER in eight of their last 12 ACC games.

-- The home team is 4-1 SU in the last five meetings with Syracuse holding the slight 3-2 edge ATS. The total has stayed UNDER in four of the last five meetings at Duke.

Wisconsin Badgers at Maryland Terrapins (FS1, 8:30 p.m. ET)

Opening Odds: Maryland -3, Total 136 ?

Betting Matchup

With Friday?s 84-80 overtime loss to Purdue at home as a three-point favorite, Wisconsin has lost three of its last four games both SU and ATS. It is 3-2 SU (2-3 ATS) in the Big Ten with the total staying UNDER in three of those five games. The Badgers (11-5 SU, 8-8 ATS) have failed to cover in seven of their last 11 games. Senior forward Ethan Happ leads the team in scoring with 20.0 points per game and he put up 31 in Friday?s loss after scoring 22 points in his previous game against Penn State.

Maryland moved to 5-1 SU in conference play with Friday night?s 78-75 victory against Indiana. The Terrapins failed to cover as five-point home favorites and the total went OVER 143 ? points. They are 4-2 ATS in those six Big Ten games and the total has gone OVER in their last seven outings overall. Maryland has scored at least 74 points in each of those last seven games while allowing an average of 70 points during this same span.

Betting Trends

-- The Badgers have covered in 10 of their last 12 road games and the total has stayed UNDER in five of their last six games following a SU loss.

-- The Terrapins are 1-3-1 ATS in their last five home games with the total going OVER in all five contests.

-- The road team is 4-1 ATS in the last five meetings and the total has stayed UNDER in the last four meetings at Maryland.

Texas Longhorns at No. 7 Kansas Jayhawks (ESPN, 9:00 p.m. ET)

Opening Odds: Kansas -8, Total 139 ?

Betting Matchup

Texas has lost its last two games SU and ATS closing as favorites against Oklahoma State on the road and Texas Tech at home. It is an even 3-3 SU (2-4 ATS) in its last six games as part of a 10-6 (6-10 ATS) record overall. The Longhorns opened play in the Big 12 on Jan. 2 with a 67-47 romp over Kansas State as slight two-point road underdogs. They are 3-1 ATS this season when closing as underdogs. The total has stayed UNDER in four of their last five games.

With Saturday?s 73-68 victory against Baylor as a 4 ?-point road favorite, Kansas is 3-1 SU (2-2 ATS) in early conference play. The Jayhawks lost to Iowa State 77-60 as 2 ?-point road underdogs on Jan. 5. They are 14-2 SU overall with an even 8-8 record ATS. The total has gone OVER in 10 of the 16 games. Junior forward Dedric Lawson is Kansas?s leading scorer with 19.3 PPG and he recently posted 31 points in a win against TCU.

Betting Trends

-- The Longhorns are 2-6 ATS in their last eight games against a team with a SU winning record. The total has stayed UNDER in seven of their last nine games when failing to cover in their previous contest.

-- The Jayhawks have failed to cover in five of their last seven games coming off a SU win. The total has gone OVER in 16 of their last 24 games following a SU win.

Battle helps Syracuse upset No. 1 Duke in OT
January 14, 2019
By The Associated Press

DURHAM, N.C. (AP) Tyus Battle scored a season-high 32 points, and Syracuse used its 2-3 zone defense to rattle No. 1 Duke in overtime as the Orange pulled off the upset, 95-91 on Monday night.

With swingman Cameron Reddish out with an illness and point guard Tre Jones suffering a shoulder injury roughly 5+ minutes in, Duke was down two starters and was a completely different team - and the Orange took full advantage.

Paschal Chukwu added 10 points and a career-high 18 rebounds while Elijah Hughes added 20 points, Frank Howard finished with 16 and Oshae Brissett had 14 for the Orange (12-5, 3-1 Atlantic Coast Conference).

Zion Williamson had a career-high 35 points and 10 rebounds, and his free throw with 16.2 seconds left in regulation tied it at 85 for Duke (14-2, 3-1), but he missed a second go-ahead foul shot.

No. 7 KANSAS 80, TEXAS 78

LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) - Lagerald Vick scored 21 points, Marcus Garrett added a career-high 20, and Kansas held on to beat Texas when Jase Febres' 3-pointer at the buzzer never came close.

Dedric Lawson added 17 points and eight rebounds for the Jayhawks (15-2, 4-1 Big 12), who blew a 10-point second-half lead before escaping with their 10th straight win over the Longhorns.

The game was tied at 73 when Lawson made a pair of foul shots. Texas big man Dylan Osetkowski was forced into a jump ball at the other end to give Kansas possession again, and Vick knocked down a 3 from the wing with 1:31 left in the game to give the Jayhawks a cushion.

The teams swapped empty possessions and Texas (10-7, 2-3) was forced to foul Lawson, who missed the second of two free throws. The Longhorns pulled down the rebound and Courtney Ramey buried a 3-pointer to get them within 79-78 with 8.9 seconds left in the game.

They quickly fouled Garrett, a 64-percent foul shooter, and he made the second of two free throws to give the Longhorns a chance. But after racing the ball up floor, they settled for a contested 3 from Febres that clanked harmlessly off the side of the rim.

PITTSBURGH 75, No. 11 FLORIDA STATE 62

PITTSBURGH (AP) - Trey McGowens had 30 points and seven rebounds, Xavier Johnson scored 16 and Pittsburgh pulled away late for a win over Florida State.

McGowens, a freshman guard, attacked the bigger, deeper Seminoles relentlessly to help the Panthers (12-5, 2-2 Atlantic Coast Conference) end a 13-game losing streak against ranked teams. Pitt's previous victory over a team in the AP Top 25 came against Florida State on Feb. 18, 2017.

Last Tuesday, McGowens set a school record by pouring in 33 points in a victory over Louisville. He threatened the mark just six days later thanks in large part to going 18 of 19 from the line. Johnson overcame seven turnovers to score seven points down the stretch, including a driving layup with 2:43 remaining that helped restore Pitt's advantage to 65-55 after Florida State cut a 10-point deficit in half.

Trent Forrest scored 19 points for the Seminoles (13-4, 1-3),

No. 19 MARYLAND 64, WISCONSIN 60

COLLEGE PARK, Md. (AP) - Anthony Cowan Jr. hit a pivotal 3-pointer with 44 seconds left, and Maryland edged Wisconsin after blowing a 21-point lead in the second half.

Back in the AP Top 25 for the first time since early December, the Terrapins marked the occasion with a strange hot-and-cold performance against a perennial Big Ten contender before emerging with their sixth straight win.

Maryland (15-3, 6-1) led by 10 after eight minutes and 38-17 with 17:47 remaining before the Badgers (11-6, 3-3) roared back to take a 60-59 lead with 2:01 to go.

Cowan turned it around with his long-range jumper, and the Terps held on after Wisconsin's Nate Reuvers missed two 3-pointers in the final 33 seconds.

Reuvers scored a career-high 18 for Wisconsin.

NEBRASKA 66, No. 25 INDIANA 51

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP) - Glynn Watson Jr. scored 15 points, Isaac Copeland added 14 and James Palmer Jr. to help Nebraska upset Indiana.

The Cornhuskers (13-4, 3-3 Big Ten) have won two straight overall and three straight in the series. They never trailed.

Romeo Langford had 18 points and Juwan Morgan finished with 17 on a miserable shooting night for the Hoosiers (12-5, 3-3), who have lost three in a row. Indiana's 10-game home winning streak also ended.

And the Cornhuskers never really gave Indiana a chance after scoring the first nine points.

****************************

Tuesday?s List of 13: College hoop knowledge??.

13) Missouri Valley:
? Valparaiso is 4-1 in games decided by 5 or fewer points, or in OT.
? Illinois State is 52-24 in this league the last five years, but hasn?t made NCAA?s since 1998- they?re 2-2 in Valley so far this year.
? #95 Loyola is only team ranked above #136 in country, so Arch Madness will determine the only bid from this league.

12) Ivy League:
? Have only been three conference games so much, so hard to tell a lot so far.
? #90 Yale is highest-ranked team; they beat Cal, Miami, lost to Memphis in double OT.
? Brown is 11-4, but vs schedule #318. Still, 11-4 is 11-4.

11) Mountain West:
? Boise State/UNLV are both 3-0, but Nevada/Fresno are two best teams.
? San Diego State is in decline; they?re 9-7, 1-2 in MW, losing 62-48 at Air Force Saturday.
? Utah State is 12-5 under new coach Smith, who came in from South Dakota.
? This is a one-bid league unless Nevada gets upset in conference tourney.

10) Atlantic 14:
? This league has only two teams in top 200 in country in experience.
? Dayton, Davidson, Saint Louis all started out 3-0 in conference.
? Saint Louis forced turnovers on 25.3% of possessions in first three A-14 games.
? This looks like another one-bid conference.

9) Mid American:
? League ranking is up to #9, its highest spot since at least 2002.
? Buffalo is 15-1, by far best team in MAC; they?ve won at West Virginia, Syracuse.
? Bulls start three seniors and a junior; they beat Arizona in NCAA?s LY.
? Northern Illinois is #37 in experience; they won first three MAC games.

8) West Coast:
? Have nine teams in top 200; only had six last two years, four the year before that.
? San Francisco is 14-3 and played Gonzaga tough; are they 2nd-best team in WCC?
? Gonzaga won 96-83 at USF Saturday; in six games before that, Zags had allowed average of only 46 ppg.
? Not sure this is a multi-bid league, but #8 ranking is its highest in four years.

7) American:
? Houston is 16-1 for Kelvin Sampson, but vs schedule #262.
? Temple is 13-3, 3-1 in last season of Fran Dunphy?s terrific coaching career.
? Memphis is 11-6, 3-1 in Penny Hardaway?s first season as a college coach.
? There will definitely be bubble teams from this league on March 17.

6) Pac-12:
? Ugly season for Pac-12; there are no top 40 teams right now.
? UCLA already fired its coach; they?re 10-7 and very, very young.
? Washington is most experienced team in league and is off to a 3-0 start.
? Oregon State is 3-0 in Pac-12; they haven?t had winning season in league since at least 2002.

5) Big East:
? Villanova is 4-0, but Wildcats aren?t nearly as good as they?ve been.
? Patrick Ewing?s Georgetown teams play lot of high-scoring, fun games to watch.
? Butler lost four of last five games, last two by one point each.
? Marquette/Villanova look good for NCAA?s; lot of bubble teams elsewhere.

4) SEC:
? League has four teams in top 25, seven in top 50.
? Ole Miss is off to surprising 13-2 start for new coach Kermit Davis.
? Auburn is 12-3 but lost both its true road games so far.
? Kentucky lost its opener by 34 to Duke, but won four of its last five games as they gradually improve- they?re 12-3, despite being experience team #350.

3) ACC:
? Duke, Virginia and Virginia Tech are all 3-0 in conference.
? Syracuse split its last six home games, losing to Old Dominion, Buffalo. Ga Tech.
? League has seven teams in top 30.
? Virginia plays slowest tempo in country; they?re shooting 43.1% on arc in ACC games.

2) Big X:
? This is Shaka Smart?s 4th year at Texas; he is 26-33 in league games, 3-2 this year.
? West Virginia is 0-4 in league, turning ball over 22.3% of time in Big X games.
? League has four teams in top 20.
? Six of 10 teams in league are outside top 200 in country in experience.

1) Big 14:
? Michigan/Michigan State are both 6-0 in conference; they meet Feb 24/March 9.
? Nebraska is an experienced team, but they lost three of first four Big 14 road games, with losses by 7-2-9 points.
? Wisconsin shot only 54.4% from foul line in first five conference games.
? League has eight teams in kenpom.com top 30.

Tuesday's SEC Notes
January 15, 2019
By Brian Edwards

**Florida at Mississippi State**

-- Both SEC schools are off tough home losses on Saturday. UF fell to 1-2 in the SEC play by allowing a three-point halftime lead to get away in a 78-67 loss to Tennessee as a 3.5-point home underdog. Likewise, Ole Miss went into The Hump and recovered from a 41-39 intermission deficit to win an 81-77 thriller over MSU as a five-point road underdog.

-- William Hill opened Mississippi State (12-3 straight up, 7-8 against the spread) as a 2.5-point home favorite late Monday afternoon. The total was 133.5 at a few offshore shops as of early Monday night. However, as of early this morning, the Bulldogs were 4.5-point home ?chalk? with the total at 136. The Gators were +170 on the money line at the Westgate SuperBook (risk $100 to win $170).

-- Ben Howland?s squad is 8-1 SU and 5-4 ATS at home.

-- Mississippi State has dropped back-to-back games both SU and ATS to start SEC play. The Bulldogs lost 87-82 in overtime at South Carolina last Tuesday before going down against the Rebels. They led Ole Miss 70-62 with seven minutes remaining and the game was tied at 77-77. However, this was day was about new Ole Miss head coach Kermit Davis, who grew up in Starkville, where his father was MSU?s head coach in the late 1970s and where Davis played for the Bulldogs in the early ?80s. After a 14-year run at Middle Tennessee, however, Davis became a Rebel when he was hired to replace Andy Kennedy. And in leading Ole Miss to its 10th straight win and spot in the national rankings, Davis must be a leading candidate for National Coach of the Year, especially when realizing how the Rebels are 14-1 ATS, the best such mark in America.

-- One of Davis?s signers in his first freshman class was 6?7? guard/forward Blake Hinson, who erupted for a career-high 26 points in the win at MSU. Hinson hit three consecutive 3-balls on Saturday afternoon on his way to scoring a career-high 26 points. Breein Tyree scored the go-ahead bucket with less than a minute remaining and the Rebels held on from there. Tyree finished with 19 points and five assists without a turnover. In the losing effort, Quinnndary Weatherspoon had 18 points, eight rebounds, three assists and two steals, but he committed five turnovers. Lamar Peters added 16 points and Nick Weatherspoon was also in double figures with 11 points.

-- Mississippi State is ranked No. 27 at KenPom.com. The Bulldogs are 6-2 against opponents ranked in K-Pom?s Top 100. They own quality neutral-court wins over Saint Mary?s and Clemson, in addition to home wins over Cincinnati, Wofford and BYU. MSU won 65-58 at Dayton. The only other defeat on its resume was a 72-67 loss to Arizona State on a neutral floor.

-- Howland?s fourth team is hungry for its first NCAA Tournament appearance of his tenure. The Bulldogs got a taste of the postseason, their first since 2012, when they advanced to New York City and the NIT semifinals last year with road wins at Baylor and Louisville. The non-conference resume is outstanding, but MSU certainly wants to avoid a 0-3 start in league play.

-- Quinndary Weatherspoon, one of two seniors on the roster, paces MSU in scoring with his 17.1-points-per-game average. He averages 5.7 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.5 steals per game while hitting 84.0 percent of his free-throw attempts. Q-Weatherspoon has scored 14 points or more in seven straight games. Peters (13.5 PPG) is hitting 41.4 percent of his 3-pointers and dishing out a team-best 6.1 assists per game and has a 1.4 SPG average. Aric Holman (12.7 PPG) lead the Bulldogs in rebounding (8.4 RPG) and blocked shots (2.5 BPG) and averages 1.1 SPG. The 6?10 senior center out of Owensboro, KY., can also stretch the court with his range, draining 28 triples and shooting at a 43.8 percent clip from downtown. Nick Weatherspoon, a sophomore guard who is Quinndary?s younger brother, averages 10.7 PPG and is burying 48.6 percent of his launches from 3-point range.

-- Florida (9-6 SU, 7-8 ATS) is 1-1 both SU and ATS in a pair of road assignments. The loss to UT, which was an extremely misleading final, dropped UF to 1-2 in conference action. The Gators cut the deficit to 69-67 with 1:25 remaining, but the Volunteers finished the game on a 9-0 run to close the show. Tennessee hit 29-of-55 field-goal attempts to shoot 52.7 percent from the field. The Vols also enjoyed a 32-23 rebounding advantage, twice scoring at crunch time after keeping possessions alive with two offensive rebounds apiece. Grant Williams was the catalyst with 20 points, nine rebounds, four assists, two steals and two blocked shots. KeVaugh Allen scored a team-high 17 points in the losing effort. The North Little Rock High School product hit 5-of-6 attempts from long distance. Freshman guard Noah Locke hit four 3-balls and scored 16 points. Jalen Hudson and Keith Stone?s baffling and extremely disappointing seasons continued, as the duo combined to make only 1-of-11 FGAs and combined for only six points.

-- Mike White?s club is ranked No. 24 at K-Pom.com. UF has a 3-5 record against the Top 100, posting wins over West Virginia on a neutral court, a home win over Butler and a 57-51 win at Arkansas last week. Two of the Gators? losses have come at home to top-five foes, Michigan State (63-59, #3) and UT. They?ve also lost at FSU, to Butler and Oklahoma at the Battle 4 Atlantis in the Bahamas, and in a home game vs. South Carolina.

-- Florida is 0-3 both SU and ATS in three games as an underdog.

-- UF is ranked 12th in the nation in scoring defense (61.2 PPG), 39th in FG percentage defense (39.9%) and 42nd at defending the 3-point line (30.3%). However, it has been atrocious offensively, averaging only 69.7 PPG to rank No. 281 out of 351 Division-I teams. The Gators aren?t much better shooting from the field (42.9%, No. 267 nationally) or the FT line (67.4%, No. 257).

-- Vaughn leads UF in scoring with an 11.3 PPG average, followed by Locke?s 10.4 PPG average. Allen has a team-best 23 steals, a 37/22 assist-to-turnover ratio and a team-high 84.4 FT percentage. Locke is burying 42.6 percent of his 3-pointers. Hudson is ensuring a nightmare senior campaign. After averaging 15.5 PPG last year, he?s averaging merely 6.5 PPG. Hudson, a senior who spent his first two seasons at Va. Tech, has abysmal shooting percentages of 29.7 percent from the field, 22.0 percent from 3-point territory and 59.4 percent at the charity stripe. Stone (6.3 PPG, 4.3 RPG) has scored in double figures just twice in the past 10 games.

-- Florida has beaten MSU eight consecutive times and hasn?t tasted defeat against the Bulldogs since Jan. 29 of 2011. UF beat up on the Bulldogs by a 71-54 count in Gainesville last year, covering the spread as a nine-point home favorite. Hudson scored 12 points for the Gators, while Stone added 10 points and eight boards. Quinndary Weatherspoon had 16 points, five rebounds, three assists and a pair of steals.

-- The ?over? is 8-7 overall for MSU, 6-3 in its home games.

-- The ?under? is 10-5 overall for UF, 2-0 in its road contests. The ?under? has cashed at a 10-1 clip in the Gators? past 11 road games dating back to last season. Regardless of the venue, the ?under? is on a 19-9 run in UF?s past 28 outings.

-- Tip-off is slated for 7:00 p.m. Eastern on the SEC Network.

**LSU at Ole Miss**

-- As of late this morning, most books had Ole Miss (13-2 SU, 14-1 ATS) listed as a four-point favorite with a total of 141. The Tigers were +160 on the money line (risk $100 to win $160).

-- LSU (12-3 SU, 7-7-1 ATS) is 1-1 both SU and ATS in a pair of road assignments. The ?over? has hit in three straight games for the Tigers and five of their past six.

-- Will Wade?s team improve to 2-0 in SEC play with last week?s home win over Alabama (88-79) and Saturday?s overtime victory at Arkansas by a 94-88 score as a one-point road underdog. Naz Reid, the freshman who was a 5-star recruit out of New Jersey, was the catalyst in Fayetteville with 27 points and seven rebounds on 10-of-12 shooting from the field, 4-of-4 makes from 3-point range and 3-of-4 at the FT line. Reid also pulled down seven rebounds. Tremont Waters had 17 points, 11 assists and three steals, while Marlon Taylor finished with 21 points and seven boards. Skylar Mays contributed 15 points and two steals. LSU won the rebounding battle by a 34-28 advantage. Both teams shot better than 51 percent from the floor, but LSU splashed the nets at a 40.0 clip from 3-point range, while the Hogs made only 3-of-16 from downtown. Daniel Gafford had a game-high 32 points for the Razorbacks in defeat.

-- Waters, a sophomore point guard who is scoring at a 13.2 PPG clip, paces the Tigers in assists (6.0 APG) and steals (3.0 SPG). Mays leads a balanced scoring attack with his 13.3 PPG, and he has 28 steals, a 35/19 assist-to-turnover ratio and excellent shooting percentages from the field (50.4%), 3-point range (40.6%) and the FT line (88.1%). Reid averages 13.2 points and 5.5 RPG. Lavell Bigby-Williams (6.8 PPG, 4.7 RPG) has a teqam-high 32 blocked shots.

-- LSU has been an underdog three times, going 1-1-1 ATS with the outright win at Arkansas. The Tigers lost 82-67 at Houston as 3.5-point underdogs and dropped a 79-76 decision to FSU in OT on a neutral court.

-- LSU is ranked No. 38 at K-Pom, going 4-3 against the Top 100. Since the loss at Houston, the Tigers have ripped off five consecutive victories while going 4-1 ATS. Four of the five victims have been Top-100 foes, including Saint Mary?s, Furman, Alabama and Arkansas.

-- Ole Miss is a perfect 7-0 both SU and ATS at home.

-- Since losing 71-57 to Cincinnati on a neutral court on Nov. 24, Ole Miss has won 10 games in a row both SU and ATS. The only other loss for the Rebels was by an 83-76 score at Butler as 9.5-point underdogs back on Nov. 16. They?re 2-0 both SU and ATS in just a pair of single-digit ?chalk? situations.

-- Ole Miss is 3-0 in SEC play, winning 81-71 at Vanderbilt and 82-67 at home vs. Auburn as a four-point underdog last week before winning at MSU. Terence Davis erupted for 27 points and 12 rebounds vs. Auburn. KJ Buffen, a freshman forward, finished with 16 points, four rebounds and three steals vs. AU, while sophomore guard Devontae Shuler had 14 points.

-- Ole Miss is ranked No. 30 at K-Pom, compiling a 4-2 record against Top-100 foes. The Rebels own quality road scalps over Mississippi State and Vanderbilt, in addition to a neutral-court victory over Baylor and a home win over Auburn.

-- Terence Davis, one of only two seniors on the roster who is averaging 15.7 PPG and is making 42.0 percent of his 3-pointers, leads the Rebels in assists (3.5 APG), rebounding (5.6 RPG) and blocked shots (1.0 BPG). Tyree is scoring at a team-high 17.5 PPG clip while burying 40.0 percent of his treys and 81.8 percent of his FTAs. Shuler is also scoring in double figures (10.6 PPG) and hitting 40.0 percent of his 3?s and has a team-best 24 steals.

-- Ole Miss is ranked 15th nationally in FG percentage (49.9%), 38th in 3-point accuracy (38.2%) and 22nd in FT percentage (76.1%).

-- The ?over? is 8-6 overall for LSU, 2-0 in its road outings. Furthermore, the ?over? is on a 21-7 run in LSU?s last 28 road contests.

-- The ?under? is 12-5 in the past 17 meetings in this rivalry. Also, the favorite has cashed tickets at a 9-4 clip in the past 13 encounters between these SEC adversaries.

-- LSU has won four of the past five meetings against Ole Miss, including an 82-66 win as a 4.5-point home favorite last Feb. 10. Mays led the winners with 17 points and six rebounds, while Waters produced 11 points, five rebounds and eight assists compared to just one turnover. Bruce Stevens had 16 points for the Rebels in defeat, and Tyree finished with 10 points.

-- The SEC Network will have the broadcast at 9:00 p.m. Eastern.

**B.E.?s Bonus Nuggets**

-- After losing at home to Georgia Tech on Saturday, Syracuse went into Coach K Court inside of Cameron Indoor Stadium and beat top-ranked Duke last night by a 95-91 score in overtime. Jim Boeheim?s team won outright as a 17-point road underdog, hooking up money-line supporters with a +1200 return (paid $1,200 on $100 wagers). Tyus Battle scored 32 points to go with four rebounds and four assists for the Orange. Elijah Hughes had 18 of his 20 points in the first half, including a buzzer-beating launch from about 75 feet away to end the first half. Frank Howard was clutch in the second half, finished with 16 points, six rebounds, five assists and two steals. Duke?s Zion Williamson, who left Saturday?s win at FSU and didn?t return after taking an eye poke, was able to go last night and produced 35 points, 10 rebounds and five blocked shots. However, it wasn?t enough to make up for Tre Jones, the Blue Devils? defensive catalyst who had two points, two assists and four steals in the games first six minutes before leaving with a shoulder sprain. Jones is ?out? indefinitely. Duke was also without Cam Reddish, who drained the buzzer beater to clip the Seminoles on Saturday but fell ill and didn?t dress out vs. The ?Cuse.

-- In other SEC action tonight, Kentucky (12-3 SU, 6-9 ATS) is at Stegeman Coliseum to take on Georgia and its new head coach Tom Crean. As of late this morning, most books had the Wildcats favored by 7.5 points with a total of 147.5 UGA is 7-1 both SU and ATS at home this season. ESPN will have the telecast at 7:00 p.m. Eastern.

-- Another SEC showdown will take place in Knoxville, where Tennessee will host Arkansas at 7:00 p.m. Eastern on ESPN2. As of this morning, most spots had the Vols installed as 14-point home ?chalk? with a total of 151. The Razorbacks, who are 2-0 both SU and ATS in a pair of road assignments were +800 on the money line (risk $100 to win $800). UT is undefeated in nine home games with a 3-4 spread record.

-- Virginia (15-0 SU, 12-3 ATS) and Michigan are the lone unbeatens remaining in college hoops. UVA will put that undefeated ledger on the line tonight at home vs. Va. Tech (14-1 SU, 9-5 ATS) on the ACC Network at 8:00 p.m. Eastern. The Cavaliers are 8-0 SU and 6-2 ATS at home, while the Hokies are 1-1 SU and 0-2 ATS on the road. As of late this morning, most spots had UVA favored by 7.5 points with a total of 121. The ?over? is 9-5 overall for Va. Tech, but the ?under? has cashed in both of its road assignments. This is the lowest total the Hokies have seen by 11.5 points. In fact, they?ve only had two totals in the 130s (133.5 & 136.5), but we should note that both of those games went ?under.? The Cavs have watched the 'under? go 6-2 in their past eight games.

-- LAST CALL! The late televised game tonight is New Mexico at San Diego State at 11:00 p.m. Eastern on the CBS Sports Network. Most books had the Aztecs as seven-point home ?chalk? with a total of 147 late this morning.

-- St. John?s star guard Shamorie Ponds (20.5 PPG, 6.0 APG, 4.4 RPG & 2.7 SPG)
is ?questionable? for Wednesday?s game against Creighton due to a back issue.

NCAA Game Preview - Notre Dame Fighting Irish at North Carolina Tar Heels

The North Carolina Tar Heels are usually dominant at home, but that wasn?t the case last time out. They will aim to bounce back this week in a matchup against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. North Carolina is coming off a bad loss but still has the superior talent and is the home team.

The Fighting Irish will be a sizable underdog and could be hard-pressed to send the Tar Heels to another loss. North Carolina has a lot of competition in the ACC and has to win games like this in able to be in the running for the conference crown in NCAA basketball betting lines.

This NCAA basketball game between the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and North Carolina Tar Heels will be held at the Dean E. Smith Center in Chapel Hill, North Carolina at 9:00 p.m. ET on Tuesday, January 15th, 2019. The game will be nationally televised on ESPN.

We'll have NCAA basketball odds at BookMaker.eu available for every game of the 2019 NCAA basketball season.

Odds Analysis

Notre Dame has an overall record of 11-5 on the season. The Fighting Irish has started slowly in conference play with a 1-2 record. Notre Dame lost back-to-back games to Virginia Tech and Syracuse before bouncing back with a win over Boston College last time out.

North Carolina has a mark of 12-4 on the year. The Tar Heels won their first two conference games so the recent loss isn?t that big of a deal so early in ACC play. North Carolina is going to be a big favorite based on the location of this matchup in NCAA basketball wagering.

Key Stat

21. That was the margin of defeat for North Carolina last time out as it fell, 83-62, to Louisville. It was the worst loss at home in Roy Williams? 16 seasons as coach. The Tar Heels have a good team but a loss like that in North Carolina proves it may not be elite.

The Tar Heels trailed by nine points at the half and couldn?t make it a close game after intermission. North Carolina was ice cold from the field, shooting 34.5 percent from the field and 13.6 percent from three-point range. Guard Kenny Williams played pretty well as he scored 12 points on 50 percent shooting but did not get much help at all.

North Carolina needs to bounce back and will certainly be motivated to prove the blowout loss was an aberration.

Player To Watch

T.J. Gibbs -- Notre Dame has dealt with some significant injuries this year and didn?t have their leading scorer last time out. Luckily it was just a migraine so there seems to be a good chance that the junior guard plays in this one.

Gibbs will be a huge part of the equation if the Fighting Irish can manage to stay close and push for the upset. He is averaging 14.7 points and 3.9 assists per game on the year. Gibbs is shooting only 36.3 percent from the field and 37 percent from three-point range. If he doesn?t play efficiently in this one Notre Dame will have little shot of pulling out the win.

Free NCAA Basketball ATS Picks

North Carolina was embarrassed on its home court last time out but will get a quick chance at redemption. The Tar Heels should win this one comfortably, but the spread figures to be pretty high. North Carolina is the pick to win the game but Notre Dame should be considered on the spread in NCAA basketball wagering.

Check back to see where the scoring total comes in. The Tar Heels have a tendency to play in shootouts.

NCAA Basketball Pick: North Carolina Tar Heels 82, Notre Dame Fighting Irish 70

Tuesday College Basketball Betting Preview
Marquette vs Georgetown

The college basketball landscape dealt with some aftershocks last night with Syracuse's monumental upset of #1 Duke in Duke, as a new storyline about this year's Blue Devils may have been written. For all the talk about Duke having the top three recruits in the country in RJ Barrett, Zion Williamson, and Cameron Reddish (who did miss last night with an illness), it may be the fourth freshman of that class ? Tre Jones ? who may be the key cog for that entire roster this year.

When Jones left the game with a shoulder injury, Duke's play on defense was basically non-existent, and Syracuse had no fear about attacking the basket. If Jones is out for a while for Duke, fading the Blue Devils might be something to keep an eye on. So as the Top 25 rankings get prepared for another shake-up, it's off to another night of heavy action on the hardwood, with the focus of this piece directed at the Big East.

Marquette and Georgetown are both currently looking up at Villanova atop the conference, and with the loser of tonight's game falling to three wins in conference play, it's almost a do-or-die scenario for both sides, because the uphill climb the loser will have afterwards is probably going to be too much to overcome.

BetOnline.ag Odds: Marquette (-2); Total set at 159

Despite a 12-5 SU record coming into action tonight, the Georgetown Hoyas have looked more like a model of inconsistency than not this year. Three of those 12 wins have come in OT, and there have also been some inexplicable losses after getting out to huge early leads against the likes of Syracuse and Xavier. But when you live and die with your offensive prowess, there are going to be nights where the shooting goes cold for the Hoyas, and when that happens, things tend to get ugly.

So which Georgetown team shows up tonight? Two of their last three games have needed extra time to be decided, and sandwiched in-between those contests was that choke job against Xavier where they were outscored 61-36 in the final 23 minutes of the game. Bouncing back to beat Providence was a nice way to rebound, but I'm not so sure we don't see one of the worst sides of the Hoyas show up tonight.

Marquette had their own long OT game to deal with recently with their last road outing being a 106-104 victory over Creighton. That was the Golden Eagles first road win of the year as they've not been their best selves away from their own floor. But they do come into this game with the much better defense statistically (68.8 allowed/game) and that's never a bad thing against this Georgetown program. Marquette also came into this building a year ago as a similar-sized road favorite (-1.5) and won by four (in OT of course), so there is that confidence to fall back on as well.

Georgetown opponents know they aren't going to completely keep the Hoyas off the scoreboard, they've just got to contain them as much as possible and extend Georgetown offensive droughts for as long as possible. That's a strength of this Marquette team, as three of their last five opponents have been held to 66 or fewer points, and anything under 75 for Georgetown tonight should be more than enough for a Marquette win.

Eventually you've got to figure that all this extra basketball the Hoyas have been playing (three OT games in last six games) is going to catch up to their legs at some point, and this is the team's third game in seven days. That's not something college kids are particularly used too, and with the home side just 3-7 ATS in the last 10 meetings between these two, this spread may actually be a little short.

Georgetown is also on a 2-6-1 ATS run in conference play, and it was after that OT game against St Johns that the Hoyas appeared to run out of gas vs Xavier, so there's a good chance we see a similar thing happen tonight after another conference OT outing.

With Marquette on a 7-2 ATS run against winning teams, 6-2 ATS in their last eight overall, and the favorite in these matchups covering the number in five of the last seven meetings, it's the Marquette side that I'm on tonight.

Top 25 Betting Recap
January 12, 2019
By Joe Williams

Each week until March Madness we'll take a look at how the Top 25 fared from college basketball, but straight up and against the number, while also taking a look at their upcoming schedule.

Michigan State (15-2 SU, 13-4 ATS) continues to keep pace with Michigan (17-0 SU, 9-8 ATS) for the top spot in the Big Ten (plus four) Conference. While the Wolverines have yet to experience a setback, they're not nearly as outstanding againts the spread as Sparty has been. Tom Izzo's bunch enters the new week with six straight covers, and they are 9-1 ATS over the past 10 following their 71-56 road victory at Penn State (7-10 SU, 5-11-1 ATS) over the weekend. In case you were wondering, the Battle for the Great Lakes State will take place on Feb. 24 in Ann Arbor, and again on March 9 in East Lansing.

Gonzaga (16-2 SU, 14-4 ATS) picked up an impressive road victory against San Francisco (14-3 SU, 8-6-2 ATS), and the Bulldogs were able to pick up their seventh consecutive cover in the process. The win and cover against the Dons was particularly interesting, however, as the previous six games were against much inferior opponents. USF is a potential Tournament team, and the Zags continued to chug right along. The high-scoring 96-83 win did slap the brakes on a six-game 'under' streak for Gonzaga. The 'under' is 8-2 over their past 10 outings, too.

Texas Tech (15-1 SU, 6-9-1 ATS) remains at the top of the Big 12 (minus two), and they're unbeaten at 10-0 SU at home. That will be put to the test on Wednesday when Iowa State (12-4 SU, 8-6-2 ATS) pays a visit to Lubbock. While the Red Raiders have just one blemish, a 69-58 loss against Duke (14-1 SU, 10-5 ATS) on a neutral-site court, they have struggled mightily against the number. TTU is just 2-7-1 ATS over the past 10, although they did earn a rare win and cover at Texas (10-6 SU, 6-10 ATS), 68-62.

The biggest losers of the week were Mississippi State (12-3 SU, 7-8 ATS), Ohio State (12-4 SU, 7-9 ATS) and St. John's (14-3 SU, 7-9-1 ATS). The skid of the Bulldogs is especially surprising, as they have two losses in a row after opening 12-1. A loss to rival Mississippi (13-2 SU, 14-1 ATS) was especially stinging. In fact, the Rebels could make their way into the Top 25 next week, as they're tied for the top spot in the SEC after the big win. Ole Miss has covered 14 of 15 games, so even if they're inexplicably left out of the Top 25, remember their dominance ATS.

The Buckeyes have dropped three in a row and are danger of falling out of the Top 25 after a 12-1 start. The Big Ten offers few breaks, but at least OSU is home for two this week against Maryland (14-3 SU, 8-8-1 ATS) and Purdue (10-6 SU, 8-8 ATS), two teams spinning their wheels against the number. As far as the Johnnies are concerned, they have dropped three of the past five outings, although they're still 5-1-1 ATS. Just because they're skidding a little, they're still valuable at the betting window.

Villanova (13-4 SU, 10-7 ATS), currently the only unbeaten team in the Big East, is poised to make a return to the Top 25 in a big way, especially since some of the teams at the bottom of the rankings had a tough time this week. They could be back in the Top 20. The Wildcats won a big road game over the weekend at Creighton (10-7 SU, 7-9 ATS) as short 'dogs. 'Nova is a solid 9-4 ATS over the past 13 games, including 3-0 ATS in the past three road games, but total bettors will find them particularly interesting. The 'under' is 11-3-2 across their past 16.

Virginia routs visiting Hokies 81-59
January 15, 2019
By The Associated Press

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (AP) De'Andre Hunter scored 21 points and Ty Jerome had 14 and a career-high 12 assists as No. 4 Virginia started fast and routed No. 9 Virginia Tech 81-59 on Tuesday night.

Kyle Guy added 15 points for the Cavaliers (16-0, 4-0 Atlantic Coast Conference), who never trailed in the first meeting of the programs in which both were ranked in the top 10. Virginia also remained one of two unbeaten teams in the country along with Michigan, which was idle.

Nickeil Alexander-Walker scored 19 points and Ahmed Hill 14 to lead Virginia Tech (14-2, 3-1), which was seeking the first 15-1 start in program history. The Hokies also hoped to repeat last year's 61-60 overtime victory at John Paul Jones Arena, but they trailed by double figures after 12 minutes and never got within single digits the rest of the way.

Virginia could hardly miss in the first half, making 10 of 14 3-point tries, including one by Kihei Clark at the buzzer to make it 44-22. The Hokies, meanwhile, were just 2 for 9 from deep and shot 35 percent (7-for-20) from the field compared to 68 percent (17-for-25) for the Cavaliers in the half.

Virginia finished 13 for 23 from 3-point range and shot 58.5 percent overall (31-for-53).

NO. 3 TENNESSEE 106, ARKANSAS 87

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Lamonte' Turner and Jordan Bowden combined to score 40 points off the bench, and No. 3 Tennessee whipped Arkansas for its 11th consecutive victory.

Turner scored 21 points and hit 6 of 8 shots. Bowden was 6-of-7 shooting and 5 of 6 from 3-point range en route to 19 points, and Tennessee's bench outscored Arkansas' 50-23.

Tennessee last won 11 straight in the 2007-08 season. Tennessee (15-1, 4-0 Southeastern Conference) is off to its fastest start since that 2007-08 campaign, when the Vols won 16 of their first 17.

Grant Williams scored 18 points for Tennessee and made all 14 of his free-throw attempts. Admiral Schofield scored all 17 of his points in the second half, and Kyle Alexander added 12 points.

Isaiah Joe scored 23 points, Mason Jones had 18, Reggie Chaney 11 and Daniel Gafford 10 for Arkansas (10-6, 1-3).

NO. 10 NEVADA 72, BOISE STATE 71

BOISE, Idaho (AP) - Cody Martin hit a 3-pointer with 4.5 seconds remaining to help No. 10 Nevada beat Boise State.

Boise State (8-9, 3-1) had a chance to win it, but Justinian Jessup's long 3-point heave at the buzzer fell short.

Nevada seemed to have the game on cruise control early in the second half, never allowing the Broncos to get any closer than seven points, but the Wolf Pack (17-1, 4-1) remained in constant foul trouble. Starters Trey Porter and Caleb Martin were on the bench with four fouls with just over nine minutes remaining in the game.

Boise State took its first lead of the second half at 69-68 with 2:10 remaining on two free throws by Alex Hobbs. Cody Martin tied it by hitting one of two from the line with 1:52 left. Hobbs answered with a layup 10 seconds later to give the Broncos a 71-69 advantage. Nevada, however, turned up its defensive intensity and stifled two subsequent Boise State possessions, setting up Martin's winner.

NO. 12 KENTUCKY 69, GEORGIA 49

ATHENS, Ga. (AP) - Ashton Hagans silenced a hostile crowd by scoring a season-high 23 points, leading No. 12 Kentucky over Georgia.

The Wildcats (13-3, 3-1 Southeastern Conference) pulled away in the second half for their third straight victory.

Hagans, a freshman who initially committed to Georgia out of high school but wound up signing with Kentucky, was booed by the sellout crowd at Stegeman Coliseum each time he touched the ball.

Georgia (9-7, 1-3) led by five in the opening minutes before going to the locker room down 35-31.

NO. 13 NORTH CAROLINA 75, NOTRE DAME 69

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) - Nassir Little scored all 11 of his points in the final 11 minutes, and No. 13 North Carolina beat Notre Dame.

Coby White had 17 points while Luke Maye added 14 points and 10 rebounds and Cameron Johnson finished with 11 points for the Tar Heels (13-4, 3-1 Atlantic Coast Conference). UNC used a late 12-1 run to bounce back from its most lopsided home loss under Hall of Fame coach Roy Williams.

Prentiss Hubb scored 18 points, John Mooney had 16 points and 19 rebounds, and D.J. Harvey added 15 points for the Fighting Irish (11-6, 1-3).

NO. 15 MARQUETTE 74, GEORGETOWN 71

WASHINGTON (AP) - Sam Hauser scored a career-high 31 points, Theo John tied a career-high with 14 points and No. 15 Marquette held on to beat Georgetown despite Markus Howard - the nation's fourth leading scorer - playing just three scoreless minutes due to lower back tightness.

John blocked Georgetown's James Akinjo's drive with four seconds left as Marquette (15-3, 4-1) won its fourth straight game.

Georgetown (12-6, 2-3) was led by Mac McClung with 24 points while Jessie Govan added 14 points and nine rebounds. McClung's desperation 3-point heave from half court was off the mark.

NO. 16 BUFFALO 88, WESTERN MICHIGAN 79

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (AP) - Jeremy Harris had 22 points and 11 rebounds, and No. 16 Buffalo held off upset-minded Western Michigan.

Nick Perkins added 14 points for the Bulls (16-1, 4-0 Mid-American Conference), who trailed by 11 in the first half and struggled to shake free of WMU until the very end. Buffalo had won its first three MAC games by a combined 70 points.

The Broncos (6-11, 0-4) went on a 15-0 run in the first half and led 33-22, but Buffalo rebounded quickly and led 43-39 at halftime.

WAKE FOREST 71, NO. 17 N.C. STATE 67

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (AP) - Freshman Jaylen Hoard had 16 points and 10 rebounds, and Wake Forest blew a 22-point lead before recovering in time to top No. 17 North Carolina State.

Graduate transfer Torry Johnson added 11 points for the Demon Deacons (8-8, 1-3 Atlantic Coast Conference). That included a critical jumper with 1:19 left in a one-point game, along with two free throws with 13.3 seconds left that helped the Demon Deacons (barely) survive a wild night in Winston-Salem.

Wake Forest led 42-27 at halftime, and then 51-29 with a flurry out of the break. But the Wolfpack (14-3, 2-2) made a move with 15 straight points to get back in it, and then fought all the way back to tie it at 58 on Devon Daniels' floater with 7:46 left.

LSU 83, NO. 18 MISSISSIPPI 69

OXFORD, Miss. (AP) - Tremont Waters scored 20 points, Kavell Bigby-Williams had 14 points, 10 rebounds and five blocks, and LSU beat No. 18 Mississippi.

LSU (13-3, 3-0 Southeastern Conference) used an early 8-0 run in the second half to take a 48-39 lead. The Tigers maintained a healthy advantage from that point, playing tight defense and forcing several turnovers.

Ole Miss (13-3, 3-1) had its 10-game winning streak snapped. The Rebels hadn't lost since Nov. 24, when they fell 71-57 to Cincinnati. Terence Davis led Ole Miss with 21 points and 10 rebounds.

NO. 24 MISSISSIPPI STATE 71, FLORIDA 68

STARKVILLE, Miss. (AP) - Quinndary Weatherspoon converted a three-point play with 3.4 seconds left to lift No. 24 Mississippi State over Florida 71-68.

Lamar Peters scored all 16 of his points in the first half, and Tyson Carter added 12 for Mississippi State (13-3, 1-2 Southeastern Conference).

KeVaughn Allen had 17 points for Florida (9-7, 1-3), and Andrew Nembhard had 13 points. Noah Locke had 12 points for the Gators, who had won eight straight against Mississippi State.

Wednesday?s 6-pack:

This is a little strange; Caesar?s Palace posted odds to win the NIT this March:
5-1? Field
6-1? Saint Mary?s
12-1? Utah State
15-1? Arizona
16-1? San Francisco
20-1? Alabama, ASU, Baylor, Creighton, Oregon St, Wofford
25-1? Clemson, East Tennessee State,

Tweet of the Day
?You?ve got to learn too much. You?ve got to have a great relationship with your offensive line, the receivers, know all the defenses that are going to be thrown at you. It?s just not an NFL season with quarterbacks. They need a lot longer than the season. The offseason is huge for those guys to be successful.?

Wednesday?s List of 13: Mid-week musings??..

13) Oklahoma QB Kyler Murray declared for the NFL Draft, which is just a procedural thing to keep his options open; the pivotal moment in his career path will be whether or not he goes to the NFL Combine in February, 11 days after the start of spring training.

Four guys on ESPN?s NFL show Monday said they thought Murray would be a first-round draft pick in the NFL; those four guys are rarely unanimous in agreeing on anything. If he gets taken in the first round, Murray would be a damn fool to play baseball- he?ll make a lot more money as a QB than working his way up thru the minor leagues.

12) Murray has a very interesting decision to make. Joe Mauer earned $218M in his baseball career, just in salary; Matt Holliday earned just under $160M in his. Both guys were HS quarterbacks who turned down college scholarships to become baseball players, but there also guys who tried to juggle both sports and never achieved stardom in either.

11) Then there is Chase Daniel, who has earned $28M in his nine NFL seasons, while starting a total of four games. Playing QB in the NFL is really, really lucrative if you?re great at it. Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers and the Manning brothers have all earned $200M+ in their careers.

Lamar Jackson got a signing bonus of more than $4.9M as the last pick of the first round last year; Murray?s signing bonus with the A?s is $4.66M, most of which he has to return if he signs with an NFL team (he?s already gotten $1.5M of it, would get to keep $200K or so).

10) CBSSports.com posted a mock draft Tuesday, which means bupkis but it is interesting to look at, and they had the Giants taking Murray with the 6th pick.

Oakland A?s Class A farm teams are in Beloit and Stockton; not a tough choice whether to suit up for the New Jersey Giants or the Beloit Snappers.

9) Not sure why the Jets would want to hire a new coach, but not let the guy hire his own assistants? Apparently Baylor?s Matt Rhule and Mike McCarthy both turned the Jets down because they wanted to decide who their assistants would be, rather than be told.

8) Not much better comedy on TV than listening to ESPN?s Jay Bilas whine about Duke?s star Zion Williamson ?being officiated differently?, because he is bigger/stronger than most guys. Nothing like a TV analyst/alum toting the party line for his alma mater.

7) Sad sign of the times: Prison guards in federal prisons are being mocked by prisoners because the guards are working, but not getting paid. Sounds like a fantastic job.

6) Modern football: James White is a running back for the Patriots, but on Sunday against the Chargers he didn?t run the ball once? he did catch 15 passes for 97 yards.

5) Difference between high majors and mid-majors:
Southern Illinois-Illinois State game Tuesday: one soph, 2 juniors, 7 seniors started.

Syracuse-Duke Monday night: 3 freshmen, 2 sophs, 4 juniors, one senior started.

If you play for a top 20 team now and you?re a senior, its almost like you?re a suspect.

4) TCU is 12-3, having a pretty good season, but they?ve had three players transfer out this season, which led them to giving one of their walk-ons a scholarship, and they got creative in how they told the kid.

Players are in a meeting room, and a sheriff walks in, holding a piece of paper and looking stern. He says he is looking for someone: ?Is Owen Ashieris here?? The kid gets up, walks over to the sheriff, and finds out he?s been given a college scholarship. Kind of cool.

3) Indianapolis Colts jumped from 4-12 to 10-6 this year, and much of credit for that went to their offensive line, which protected Andrew Luck very well.

But on Tuesday, the Colts fired OL coach Dave DeGuglielmo, who was the only offensive coach that Josh McDaniel hired during his brief dalliance Indianapolis last winter. Apparently, Reich wants his own guy, so he must have someone in mind, or why not keep DeGuglielmo?

2) Former Notre Dame QB Brandon Wimbush will play his last year of college football at Central Florida; he went 12-3 as a starting QB for the Fighting Irish.

1) New York Governor Andrew Cuomo got off his butt this week, wants 2019 to be the year legalized sports betting comes to New York.

?Let?s authorize sports betting in the upstate casinos. It?s here. It?s a reality, and it will generate activity in those casinos.?

Its about time.

Wednesday's Big 12 Tips
David Schwab

There are three nationally ranked teams from the Big 12 in the latest AP Top 25 and two of those programs will be in action this Wednesday night in key conference matchups.

In the first Big 12 battle of the night, the Kansas State Wildcats will be on the road against No. 20 Oklahoma. Next up is a conference tilt between the Iowa State Cyclones and No. 8 Texas Tech from United Super Markets Arena in Lubbock.

Kansas State Wildcats at No. 20 Oklahoma Sooners (ESPN2, 7:00 p.m. ET)

Opening Odds: Oklahoma -6 ?, Total 129 ?

Betting Matchup

Coming off a big 58-57 upset of Iowa State on Saturday as nine-point road underdogs, the Wildcats stay on the road against another tough conference foe. Kansas State is an even 2-2 straight-up in early Big 12 play as part of an overall record of 12-4. It has also gone 2-2 against the spread in the four games with the total staying UNDER in seven of the Wildcats? last nine contests. Barry Brown Jr. scored the game winning layup in the closing seconds of Saturday?s win as part of his game-high 23 points. The senior guard has eclipsed his team-high 15.2-point scoring average in each of his last three starts.

The Sooners bounced back from last Tuesday?s 66-59 loss to Texas Tech as seven-point road underdogs with a tight 76-75 victory against TCU at home on Saturday as 3 ?-point favorites. The total ended as a PUSH in that game after staying UNDER in six of their previous seven contests. The PUSH against the Red Raiders was the first time Oklahoma failed to cover in its previous nine games as part of 12-2-2 record ATS overall. Senior guard Christian James is the Sooners? leading scorer with 16.8 PPG, but he has failed to reach that average in each of his last eight games.

Betting Trends

-- The Wildcats have failed to cover in seven of their last 10 games overall and the total has stayed UNDER in 18 of their last 26 games following a SU win.

-- The Sooners are 3-8 ATS in their last 11 games after failing to cover in their previous outing. The have covered in six of their last seven home games with the total staying UNDER in each of those seven contests.

-- The home team is 4-0-1 ATS in the last five meetings and the total has gone OVER in four of the last five meetings at Oklahoma.

Iowa State Cyclones at No. 8 Texas Tech Red Raiders (ESPNU, 9:00 p.m. ET)

Opening Odds: Texas Tech -5, Total 132 ?

Betting Matchup

Prior to Saturday?s loss to Kansas State, the Cyclones were on the wrong end of a 73-70 loss to Baylor as two-point road favorites. This followed an important 77-60 win at home against Kansas as 2 ?-point favorites on Jan. 5. Total has stayed UNDER in four of their last six games. Iowa State is averaging 79.8 PPG this season, but that average has dropped to 68.3 points through its first four Big 12 games. Senior guard Marial Shayok has led the way with 19.4 PPG, but he ended the game against Kansas State with just nine points in 38 minutes of play.

The Red Raiders are at the top of the Big 12 in early play at 4-0 SU. Saturday?s 68-62 win against Texas as slight 1 ?-point road underdogs was the first time they covered in their last six games. Texas Tech?s win at home against the Sooners last week ended as a PUSH. Going back to a Dec. 1 win against Memphis, the Red Raiders are 9-1 SU in their last 10 games with a costly 2-7-1 record covering the closing number. They are averaging 72.7 PPG while holding their opponents to just 54 points on defense. This is the second-best points-allowed average in the nation.

Betting Trends

-- The Cyclones have failed to cover in 13 of their last 18 road games, but they are 7-3 ATS in their last 10 Wednesday games. The total has stayed UNDER in six of their last seven games against a conference opponent.

-- The Red Raiders are 1-4-1 ATS in six previous home games with a 1-8-2 record ATS in their last 11 conference matchups. The total has stayed UNDER in seven of their last 10 games at home.

-- The home team has covered the closing spread in four of the last five meetings and the total has stayed UNDER in 10 of the last 14 matchups.
