Sunday?s List of 13: Wrapping up a sports Saturday

13) Kentucky 82, Auburn 80? Wildcats led this game 58-41 with 17:00 left; Auburn took the lead 80-79 with 0:32 left, but Kentucky scored with 0:24 left, then Auburn never got the ball to their best player on their last possession and that was that.

Auburn alum Charles Barkley was on ESPN for a segment of this game and he ripped the current NBA product, which I?m sure didn?t thrill his bosses at Turner Broadcasting very much. Barkley complained about the amount of 3-pointers being taken by NBA teams.

It is getting harder to listen to Dick Vitale on the air; he launched into a rant every time the refs went for a replay review. Sounded like he had a plane to catch after the game.

12) Duke 72, Virginia 70? Cavaliers hit a jumper at the buzzer for the back-door cover, but they lose to a Duke team playing without their point guard.

Mike Krzyzewski is only college basketball coach that doesn?t do halftime interviews, yet his son-in-law (Chris Spatola) works for ESPN. Whats up with that? Is it that hard to answer two softball ??s on way to locker room?

11) Are ESPN?s announcers required to mention Zion Williamson EVERY TIME they promo a Duke game, because they do mention his name EVERY TIME they read a Duke promo. You would think if it wasn?t mandated someone wouldn?t do it.

8) Drexel 73, James Madison 68? Dukes led this game 22-4 early, but went 3-12 on foul line and were behind by halftime. Drexel outscored JMU 18-3 on the foul line.

6) One college that lost out big-time with all the conference changes a few years ago was UConn, whose sports program has a $40M shortfall this year. Huskies? terrible football team lost $8.7M, their basketball team $5M and women?s basketball team lost $3M.

Big 14 screwed up (in my opinion) when they took Rutgers over UConn, but they care more about football than hoops. Would the Huskies be better off as an independent in football, and a Big East member in basketball?

5) Cal-Irvine 74, Cal State-Northridge 68? Anteaters were down 47-31 at the half, but rallied to avoid this road upset. Mark Gottfried is doing a nice job rebuilding the Northridge program.

4) Nets 145, Rockets 142 OT? This game was Wednesday but it was odd; here is a breakdown of Houston?s shot selection in that game:

3-point shots: 23-70, 32.9%, 69 points
2-point shots: 22-35, 62.9%, 44 points
foul shots: 29-34, 85.3%, 29 points.

Rockets took twice as many 3-point shots as 2-point shots, but they also lost. Gerald Green played 41:00 in this game, was 5-15 from floor, all 3-point shots.

3) When James Harden scored 115 points in consecutive games during the week, none of the 33 baskets he scored in those games were assisted. Lot of holding the ball, 1-on-1 play. Last time Harden scored less than 30 points in a game was December 11, vs Portland. Rockets are 14-5 in 19 games since that night.

2) This made me feel old; there is a high school game on ESPNU Monday, with Sierra Canyon HS in the LA area; Kenyon Martin Jr is a senior on that team. It seems like 2 or 3 years ago that Martin was playing ball at Cincinnati, and then in the NBA. Good luck to the young man.

1) ESPN?s Joe Lunardi does his Bracketology thing for the NCAA tournament every day; he came up with teams from these conferences: Big 14 (10), ACC (8), Big X (7), SEC (6), Big East (5), American (4), A-14 (2), Pac-12 (2).

All the other leagues, the conference tournament will be the deciding factor, unless Nevada loses in the Mountain West, then they would get two teams.

This Sunday?s college basketball betting action gets an early start with a trio of matchups featuring a nationally ranked team. First on in the ACC, the No. 11 Florida State Seminoles and the Boston College Eagles clash in Chestnut Hill.

Shifting to the Big East, the Providence Friars will be on the road against the No. 15 Marquette Golden Eagles. A bit later in the afternoon, the Illinois Fighting Illini will square off against the No. 23 Iowa Hawkeyes in a Big Ten tilt at Carver-Hawkeye Arena.

It has been a rough start for Florida State in ACC play. Losses to Virginia on the road and Duke at home as an underdog in each game is understandable. However, Monday?s 75-62 road loss to Pittsburgh as 4 ?-point favorites dropped the Seminoles to 1-3 both straight-up and against the spread in the conference standings. The total has stayed UNDER or ended as a PUSH in all four of those games.

Boston College?s current SU slide reached five games with Wednesday?s 80-70 loss to Louisville as an 11-point road underdog. The Eagles have gone 3-2 ATS during this same span with the total going OVER in four of the five games. They are 9-7 SU overall with an 8-8 record ATS. Boston College has failed to cover in eight of its first 10 home games this season. Junior guard Alpha Diallo has led the way in scoring this season with 17.2 PPG, but freshman guard David Duke led the way in Tuesday?s win with 18 points.

The Golden Eagles are off to a SU 15-3 start with an 11-7 record ATS. They started Big East play with a lopsided road loss to St. John?s as two-point road underdogs. However, with a big 74-71 road win against Georgetown on Tuesday as a 1 ?-point favorite, Marquette improved to 4-1 SU (3-2 ATS) with the four-game winning streak. Star guard Markus Howard (24.4 PPG) left Tuesday?s contest with a stiff back and his status for Sunday is currently listed as questionable.

Iowa raced past Penn State 89-82 on Wednesday closing as a 3 ?-point road underdog. This was its fourth win in a row both SU and ATS. The Hawkeyes lost their first three Big Ten games SU with a 1-2 mark ATS. The total went OVER 139 points in Wednesday?s win after staying UNDER in six of their previous eight contests. It turned out that last Sunday's home cooked meal for the Nittany Lions turned out to be a rotten one, as the 71-56 loss to Michigan State was a disaster from the beginning, and the game was over by halftime. With another loss to Iowa this week, Penn State enters this weekend 0-7 SU in Big 10 play and in desperate search of some consistent offense.

But this week, on a light college basketball board overall ? so as to not compete with the NFL playoffs ? it's not the Big 10 I'm looking at for Sunday, it's out west and the Pac-12. The ?Conference of Champions? as the eccentric Bill Walton loves to make known, has one game on the card with Colorado visiting Utah.

Both teams do not want to fall further down in the Pac-12 standings, so the question is; will it be a sweet or sour home cooked meal for Utah this week?

YouWager.eu Home Team to FADE: Utah Utes

The Utes are the ones that come in with the better record in conference play (2-2 SU as opposed to 1-3 SU for Colorado) and they've gotten there after a dominant win over Washington St in this building a week ago. But this Utes team is about as inconsistent as they come this year, and they are not someone I can trust in a spot like this.

You just have to look at the fact that their 18-point win over Washington State, came right after a 16-point home loss to Washington two days prior, and all the time off since that big win is more likely going to be a momentum killer rather than anything else. The Utes also have seen six of their eight losses this year come by double-digits, and only in one of those games were they expected to suffer such a margin of defeat (ie listed as a double-digit underdog). Those home losses to Nevada and Washington were especially rough, and at 10-6 SU, Colorado is no push over.

Colorado's road results don't exactly come brimming with confidence in this spot as they are just 1-5 ATS away from home this year, but them having the full week off after a tough home loss to Washington last weekend is situationally a better scenario for them. The Buffaloes haven't spent the past week getting complacent after a big win like Utah possibly has, and all that practice/prep time for this game has likely been put to good use.

Colorado is also the more desperate team in this spot as they come in with the worse record in Pac-12 play, and with this game being the start of three in a row for the Buffaloes on the road, this stretch is basically their season on the line. That can often be all the motivation young guys need to get things turned around, and if they can just get some more consistent shooting on the road than they've gotten this year, the outright upset probably isn't out of the question either.

So with this number where it's at, I've got to side with the visitors in this spot, as this Sunday home cooked meal will not be that tasty for the Utes.

BOSTON (AP) Ky Bowman scored 37 points and Jordan Chatman gave Boston College the lead for good by hitting three straight 3-pointers during a 21-4 run to start the second half, and the Eagles held on to beat No. 11 Florida State 87-82 on Sunday.

The Seminoles (13-5, 1-4 Atlantic Coast Conference) lost their third straight game in a week since climbing to the cusp of The Associated Press Top 10.

Boston College (10-7, 1-4) led by nine with 1:27 left before a pair of turnovers against the full-court press allowed Florida State to make it a four-point game. But Wynston Tabbs made a 3-pointer with 24 seconds remaining to turn back the rally and snap the Eagles' five-game losing streak.

Mfiondu Kabengele had 26 points and nine rebounds for Florida State.

MILWAUKEE (AP) - Sam Hauser scored 25 points, Markus Howard added 24 points and nine rebounds and Marquette rallied past Providence.

After honoring former star Dwyane Wade with a celebration that included a halftime tribute, Marquette (16-3, 5-1 Big East) surged and improved to 13-0 at home.

Nate Watson tied his career high with 21 points for Providence (11-7, 1-4).

IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) - Freshman Joe Wieskamp matched a career high with 24 points and Iowa routed Illinois for its fifth straight victory.

Isaiah Moss scored a season-high 21 points and Luka Garza added 20 for the Hawkeyes (16-3, 5-3 Big Ten). They shot 68 percent, hit 12 of their first 14 3-point attempts and 15 overall.

Each week until March Madness we'll take a look at how the Top 25 fared from college basketball, but straight up and against the number, while also taking a look at their upcoming schedule.

Mississippi (14-3 SU, 15-2 ATS) continues to be a friend to bettors at the window, as all they do is cover. While they did lose this past week to LSU (14-3 SU, 9-7-1 ATS), a team likely poised to join the Top 25, the Rebels are 15-2 against the spread overall, and they haven't failed to cover in back-to-back games since closing out the regular season in 2017-18 on an 0-3 ATS run. As far as the Tigers are concerned, they enter the new week on a 4-0 ATS run, and they have covered six of their past seven overall while covering four of their past five games at home, too. If you like parlays (and, really, who doesn't?), the 'over' has connected in five of the past eight for the Bayou Bengals.

Texas Tech (15-3 SU, 6-11-1 ATS) will fall out of the Top 10 this week following back-to-back setbacks against unranked teams. The Red Raiders are now a dismal 1-6-1 ATS in the past eight outings heading into the new week. They will face two more unranked clubs this week, but Kansas State (14-4 SU, 9-9 ATS) is not an easy place to play, and then the Red Raiders welcome Arkansas (10-7 SU, 7-10 ATS) to town for the Big 12/SEC Challenge next weekend.

Michigan State (16-2 SU, 14-4 ATS) continues to cook right along, covering seven straight games heading into the new week. Defense has been huge for the Spartans, and they rank third in the country in field goal percentage defense (36.7 percent). That's been key in the past three games especially, as the 'under' is 3-0 in the past three, and 4-1-1 in the past six. They have a showdown with Iowa (16-3 SU, 10-9 ATS) looming on the horizon at Breslin Center on Thursday evening. After a one-game card last week, Sparty is on for a rare three-game schedule this week, too.

We had some upheaval among the heavyweights this past week, and there are no longer any unbeaten teams in college basketball, too. Tennessee (16-1 SU, 9-6-1 ATS) is poised to take over the No. 1 spot in one or both polls this week, and they'll wear the target on their back for a little while. Duke (15-2 SU, 10-7 ATS) rebounded with a victory against Virginia (16-1 SU, 14-3 ATS) after an earlier loss in the week to Syracuse (13-5 SU, 10-8 ATS). That takes both the Blue Devils and the Hoos out of the equation for No. 1, although they're very well expected to remain in the Top 5. Michigan (17-1 SU, 9-9 ATS) fumbled away their chance at the top spot when they were upended at Wisconsin (12-6 SU, 9-9 ATS), a team which has been a bit Jekyll and Hyde this season.

It appears Indiana (12-6 SU, 7-10 ATS) will be back out of the Top 25 after a pair of losses this week. Louisville (13-5 SU, 9-7-2 ATS) was on the verge of a Top 25 spot last week after their big road win at North Carolina (14-4 SU, 10-6-2 ATS). After two more wins, they likely dealt themselves into the rankings. While they have ticked off plenty of wins, they're just 3-5-1 ATS over the past nine, failing to cover in consecutive games since a 5-0 ATS run from Nov. 23-Dec. 8. Speaking of the Tar Heels, they bounce back after their shocking loss to the Cards, and have posted a solid 6-3-1 ATS mark over the past 10 outings.

Buffalo (16-1 SU, 9-6-1 ATS) is showing no signs of letting up. Sure, they're going to be talked about in a negative light because of a perceived weak schedule. And they did get walloped 103-85 at Marquette (16-3 SU, 12-7 ATS) in a game on Dec. 21 when they squared off against their last ranked opponent. However, they do have a nice 12-point win before that in Syracuse, a team which took down Duke. This team also won at West Virginia (9-9 SU, 6-11-1 ATS) earlier this season, too. Ask Kansas (15-3 SU, 8-10 ATS) how easy it is to win in Morgantown, as the Jayhawks just found out the hard way over the weekend. Anyway, don't write off the Bulls as untested or overrated.
